normally I play the Gears 1 at least like once a year around this time of year. But. Just wasnt feeling it tonight. So I just opened up wine & watched the cut scenes. CUZ THIS SHIT IS MY KIND OF SHIT!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks uploader. Great reading all the comments of people talking about the golden age of gaming. This was one of the big games that made it the golden era

@@Nolongerhereanymore The ultimate edition is a mixed bad that leans more on the bad side than good. It has a few good things and a couple improvements here and there, such as the comics and additional PC levels being included, but the amount of negatives heavily outweighs the positives. They made a TON of things worse than the original, from the character models, to the cinematography, to the lighting and color changes, the ultimate edition is mostly inferior to the original. It is still somewhat enjoyable but the original will always be superior. True gamers always experience both, never just one or the other. End of story.

It was content they couldn't finish for the console release so they put it on PC. Ultimate put it all back together.

I haven’t seen any comments clearly explaining what the OG and Remake do better so I’m going to make a clear list Gears OG: the cutscenes are longer and more natural. When Hoffman says get it done - I want you to give me 110% Fenix! It’s a lot quicker and more unatural in the Ultimate edition The music: the music in the OG uses the gritty music you’ve come to know a lot better. When dom breaks Marcus out of jail the eerie music plays the whole time. In the ultimate edition the music is gone The 2000s “Saw” shot: Becsuse of the OG’a budget and limitations with the graphics engine at the time they do a lot camera zooming and shaky cam. Example of this would be when the berserker cutscene happens. In the OG it’s shaky and very horror centric with its shots. Giving the perception the berserker is a rabid beast. Also the way the original shows the depressing state of the war and what it once was is handled better. In the Kim death cutscene it starts out with Marcus having flashbacks to the time everything wasn’t in ruin. Getting slightly more saturated with color. In ultimate these flashes don’t happen. Berserker cutscene: in the original as I stated the shaky camera is way better. But on top of this one thing the original does better is the over the top violence to make you terrified of the berserker. When it kills the cog who runs away, the berserker takes the cog for about 8 seconds and rips him apart. It’s so over the top and the amount of blood that comes is unrealistic but extremely disturbing. Also the bomber cutscene in the original is way better IMO. There’s and extra second or two to register the cute rat so when he dies it is more impactful (sounds stupid but watch both it’s true.) also the shot of them walking is way more intimidating IMO than in the remake. I also like how they warn Baird and dom of boomers as there walking to further show how scared the gears are of boomers. Overall gears OG has way worse graphics but a way better horror vibe and gritty element ULTIMATE EDITION: ULtimate does a better job of adding little details and obvious graphics enhancements. One small detail I like to point out is you can actually see Baird grab the tunnel data as they leave after setting the resonator. The small cutscene with raam after the resonator is also way better In ultimate. Instead of shooting the cog with a Boltok like in the original, they demonstrate raams strength by easily snapping his neck. An obvious improvement. Although the Kim death cutscene overall is better in the original, the actual skirmish between him and raam is a lot better in the remake. Kim tried to chainsaw him first and then as he is stabbed he spits on raams face. After that I can’t think of too many specific examples but obviously the graphics of how people move and stuff is way better than the OG The OG as stated doesn’t nail the horror aspects quite as well as gears OG, but makes for a way more immersive experience nonetheless. Both games have there strong suits and I enjoy playing both still when I’m in different moods. The coalition overall did an excellent job on there remake. Obviously nothing will be perfect and it’s easy to nitpick when it’s all said and done, but overall it is an extremely solid remake that adds a lot to the experience of the game. The og due to limitations was just able to make a more gritty game for the time.

Good analysis, agree with most of it, personally in the UE (Ultimate Edition) I don’t like the graphics of the characters, they look too animated and childish.

Very good points and I've noticed these after watching both versions again. That being said I do miss the old sky the original had in Act 5 during the train sequence all the way to the final fight with RAAM. The sky looking like late evening to night sky with the kryll storm covering it always looked very epic. That's lost a bit in the remake.

Another thing is that ultimate addition has better cinematography direction. What I mean is that the cutscenes look more like something you would see in a movie. I heard the original gears had wanted to make the cutscenes cinematic but apparently they only had one professional cinematography director or something. But still the original just has the gritty graphics that makes the world look so dead which adds great atmosphere.

The original cutscenes especially Kim's death and the final one are so much better than the remaster

Nr raams armour is more detailed and its a better custscene all together as in ue kim knows raam is behind him and he attempts to fight back and also in the final custscene the bridge is shown to be really close in one shot then in the next its further away and that isnt there in ue, ue is better all around

I prefer OG too. Raam is like some sort of angel of death slowly coming through the darkness to ambush Kim. His death is so shocking as it happens so fast too. No drawn out fight. Raam appears and kills your leader like it is so easy.

@@sooper7374 the view of the battle field is better in the original but the cutscene overall is better in ue. it is ashy around kim because of the fire all around him from the downed king raven to to also symbolise that death is on its way. also in the original its basically raam just comes up and kills a random soldier and fucks off at least thats what it feels like but in ultimate edition there js actually some sense of anger there. we know that kim and raam have a past with each other because of the gow3 raams shadow dlc and kim can feel the shockwave of raams footsteps and actually turns around to fight him, or try at least, and when raam kills kim with the blood splattering out of kims mouth into raams eye thats kinda like 1 last final fuck you to raam and then raam stares at marcus as if to say "your next", instead of just walking off like hes a basic palace guard thats killed someone who is barely a threat to them.

RAAM has a huge ass sword in the original Gears. In UE, it’s much shorter and looks like a dagger which I don’t like. It would’ve been nicer if they kept it the same.

Man I miss these days. I'd sprint off the bus and rush inside to load up some execution matches. The load up, the menu music, looking through the servers to find the hosts you always played with. There was always that one host that was a boss with the torque bow. Then there was the other guys that were always on Gridlock, all Carmine and all snipers, all spawn camping the other team. I miss the pitched grenade fights on the steps of Clock Tower. I miss kung-fu flipping out of the map to hunt down glitchers. I miss it all. That was like 5 gamer tags ago. Back then I was Cr1ms0n L1b3rty. The kid is 13 now and missed all of these golden days. Hard to believe. I'd kill to have a full match of old-schoolers these days. Nothing hits like old-fashioned GoW. Nothing.

While I didn't have too much problems with the ultimate edition.... I thought the cinematography of the original truly conveyed the darkness of the story... And while the visuals are dated I still felt that Delta squad looked more rugged...

@@gang6009 yeah .... especially the way delta squads chemistry and dynamic was depicted. Originally the crew seemed a lot more stoic and stand-off ish with each other and eventually growing into their brotherhood. Ultimate portrayed them with body language that was too familiar too soon. Plus I didn't think the change to Kim's last stand against Raam was necessary.

The one thing I wish Ultimate did was keep the color palette. Keeps the desolate and depressing tone. Other than that the remake scenes are great.

RAAM looks 10 times more meanacing in the original, in the ultimate edition he looks like a dumb brute. Plus the scene at 26:50 is a lot more brutal. That being said the ultimate edition has better cutscenes (that show a lot more the pesonality and expressions of the characters).

Anyone who says one is better than the other is automatically a defective gamer and human. True intelligent gamers understand that both are good in their own ways, and experiencing BOTH always gives the best experience. Both versions have good things as well as bad things that the other one doesn't. It makes 0 sense to only choose 1 option and miss out on the other when choosing BOTH ALWAYS be the superior experience because getting 2 versions is always better than 1. To not understand this basic common sense means you have bad brain disease.
