Gear’s Horrifying Emergence Day & Locust Backstory | FULL Gears Lore & Origin Story

Ойындар

Emergence Day was the darkest day for the humans on Sera. Billions would be killed as the Locust Horde savaged the land killing all in their way, leading to humanity destroying their own civilizations just to survive.
But why did this happen? Are the Locust aliens? Why did they attack humanity? Well in this video we look at the origins of the Locust and look at why they chose to wipe out humanity on that fateful day.
This is the story behind Emergence Day!

I remember playing through the series originally, and finding the Locust to be much more terrifying and mysterious when their origins had yet to be revealed. When it came out in the story that they were created by humans, it sorta became a lot less plausible to me. It was believable that an ancient civilization had been down there for millions of years, but it wasn't plausible that they had scaled so drastically in numbers and had an ancient religion and ancient ruins and stuff in so short a time.

I feel like the New Hope facility in Gears 2 basically explained how the Locust came about with the Sires (although at the time the devs denied that the Sires and Locust where connected). It left out a lot of the details but your imagination could fill in the blanks. I just didn't think it was as recent at it is.

Personally, I think the Locust should have been aliens native to Sera. The Locust being native to Sera would clean up the Locust population issues associated with the lore. I felt you made Niles Samson out to be too much of a saint. The man himself - or what was left of him - stated the Cog wanted soldiers, he gave them gods. Samson was enraptured in his research to an extreme degree, and billions suffered for it. Ultimately, Humanity is responsible for the Locust War but Samson was the one who chose to go even further. Otherwise, I love your lore videos; your narration is captivating and you have a great understanding of the Gears universe as a whole aside from that one objection I mentioned earlier.

The one thing that the lore seems forget is that there had to have been some form of sentient creatures living in the Hollow before Myra and the locust arrived. Structures and writings in the hollow were described as ancient. Idk about y’all but 80 years (at most) doesn’t seem ancient to me. I’ve heard somewhere that the Kantus are actually native to the hollow but I can’t remember where.

I wonder how many Humans lived on Sera before E-Day? They mentioned that billions of people lived there before E-Day and only hundreds of thousands had survived. They also mentioned 99% of Humanity had perished, which literally would be 99.99% if you factored billions down to hundreds of thousands. So I'm gonna assume the Pre E-Day population ranged from 2 to 8 billion people, meaning anywhere from 500 million to 2 billion people died on E-Day. I wonder how many people lived in Tyrus? Since it was one of the wealthier and more powerful countries, maybe a few hundred million? It had a lot of big cities so...

I had no idea that the humans created the Locust. It had always seemed odd to me that an intelligent species lived under ground but humans had no idea of their existence, even after millennia… Or, as i assumed, a few centuries of human colonisation from elsewhere in space (ie: Earth).

So I could be stupid but in the Gears universe is the planet the games are set on the only planet with humans on it? Do Earth and other colonized planets not exist? Or is it just that Sera would be the only planet that would have this sort of issue due to it’s ecology/history etc so Gears games take place on that one planet? It’s always intrigued me.

The Gears of war games take place in an alternate universe. In this universe, the planet Sera is humanity's version of Earth(Earth doesn't exist in this universe). Not what the guy above said.

this was a great video but I do wanna say that the lore behind the Locust and E day doesn't make any logical/rational sense. According to Gears of War 5, the Locust were created at max 50 years or less before E day after a max few hundred locust escaped with Myrrah into the hollow from the lab. In addition to that, the reason why the locust invaded the surface was becausing they were losing the war against the Lambent in the Hollow. This means that in 50 years, the Locust had created a civilizaton as well as a population that was advanced and plentiful enough for them to fight a 2 front war with the humans on the surface and the one against the lambent in hollow which they were losing. E day was a simultenous invasion of every major city on the surface that killed billions in a single day, this would take millions upon millions of Locust to do, and they were still fighting the lambent. Lastly, what makes this the most implausible is that the primary means of reproduction is with a male drone and a female bezerkers (which were so violent they killed anything they came across and had to be tied down to be mated with). Such as small timespan and such a impratical repoduction method, means that there is no way the locust could do what they did in. It would be more believable if the Locust had existed for centuries rather than just a few decades

@@Veachie I think your missing a Key point. The lore also states that locust would have wiped out humanity with in a couple of years if it weren’t for the hammer of dawn counter attacks. That’s why the cog burned sera. Every time the locust captured a city they would use its infrastructure to move troops and weapons. The cog calculated at the rate the locust were advancing humanity would be gone with in a year or two. So they used the hammer of dawn to burn sera and deny the locust access to factories and other infrastructure they were using in their war effort, killing millions of them in the process. That’s why war lasted 17 years.

To make this interesting say emergence day occurred in 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union and end of the Gulf war and other option being in the modern 21st century after the gulf War.

I kind of dislike the fact that the locust were man made, I wouldn't have minded the Queen Myrrah background but having the locust be man made kind of took me out of the gears of war universe, not by too much and I do at least appreciate that it's not too much of a half assed attempt I mean they do go through the trouble of establishing the lore of the locust but I would've liked it more if they were an ancient civilization who choose the test subject Myrrah as their Queen because they sensed her power or signal and the whole emergence day because of lambent imulsion plotline stays the same. I mean that would've made more sense to me but IDK, I don't write stories but I definitely wanted something else than the locust to be man made.
