You can see the respect Patric has for Ma Long in his Evers after he wins. He can’t believe it himself, and still remains stoic and bows his head, asking for a blessing from the greatest of all time, for what is to come next.

Congrats to Franziska for a great win. It didn't look good for Patrick after the first game, but he hanged in there and you could tell he wasn't intimidated playing against Ma Long even when he was behind in the match. He was steady and methodical and never got rattled or frustrated. To come from behind 1-2 to beat Ma Long is a feat not too many players can claim. This win validates Franziska's mental toughness as well as his game 👑

Great performance by Franziska! And especially impressed with his composure at the end. A career win against one of the all-time greats yet he handled it in calm business-like fashion.

Patrick's backhand is just amazing!!! While he won a lot of points from forcing MaLong into backhand rallys, and placing the ball on wide angles during opens. Also by placing the ball from MaLong's backhand side to a wide forhand. Anyway great game to both players WELL DONE!!!

Franziska's Return ist im Verlauf des Spiels immer besser geworden, so dass Ma Long irgendwann ganz andere Aufschläge ausgepackt hat, die dann noch weniger gewirkt hatten. Tolles Spiel von Franz und wie immer von ihm zum Schluss kein Geschrei oder dämliche Faxen, sondern ein respektvoller Handshake. Das gefällt mir extrem gut.

Playing vs a strong backhand is like playing like a left-handed, backhand is the key of game in the top 5. That s the same with FZ and Lin. The flick shot at this lvl is a powerful gear.

Don't think so. It's a tough race. I d say in total Boll has the best result this Year with Doha win. Qiu is the most consistent.I would leave Ovtcharov at home but let's look how he fares in Singapore. Imo Boll will loose vs Shidong who play world-class and because his rank is the lowest ( injury break) they will leave him at home) which imo is a mistake

@@listrahtes In an interview, Rosskopf did not commit to allocating seats for the Olympics according to the world rankings. It will probably be a mix of many factors. Boll and Qui had a flop in the German Bundesliga recently. Walther 3:0 Boll. Apalonia 3:0 Qui. Next match Patrick vs. Dima

I'm glad he started using his forehand more from the middle of the fourth set. Sure, his backhand is a weapon, but on some shots it's still better to use the forehand instead. He found the right balance in the end. I have never seen Ma Long so helpless during his serve. He started experimenting with serves he never did before, because Patrick's receive was just too good to handle.

It's slowly but surely starting to look like the end for Ma Long

Franz in the fourth game 2-5 down finally figured out Ma Longs serve. After that no looking back. If he could play that stable and aggressively all the time he would easily be top 10. But it’s also match ups. Against strong backhands or lefties (except for Dima) Ma Long does struggles. But he will be back of course

Impressive, last backhand was beautiful as well.

Patrick puts up a good fight against a lot of top players. He won against Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong, twice now against Ma Long, was really close to beating Harimoto at the Olympics and also lead 2-0 against Lin yun ju in Frankfurt not too long ago.

Simply the best Ma Long,the captain,the dragon strong player my favorit player into the world,he loose cause he was so tired surely 🇨🇳🏓🇭🇺!

I love his elegant playstyle but he often is his biggest enemy in terms of consistency. The opposite of Boll. At his best he can beat anyone with impeccable style.

Amazing backhand, I would say that most of the points that Patrick got were backhands, or at least it's what it looked like to me. As Adam said, his serve receive was on point, Ma Long couldn't do anything about it.

Because Patrick won like the last 6 receives before. Ma Long tried something different, to break the streak. Doing a complete new serve at 9:9 is pretty smart, but patrick just read every serve too well.

Bh serves are a last ditch effort often used by Ma Long. Also against Wang Chuqin, they have frequently been seen. But of course, those serves are not quite ideal for him and his playing style. Franziska's attack to the bh serve was the definition of fearless. On the other hand, it is easier to attack a bh serve or a reverse pendulum serve or a shovel serve (or a Dima-style Tomahawk serve) with the backhand. That's why I am, to say the least, not too surprised Ma Long did not use them too often.
