What an absolute legend he is

Justice was served in the 4th set at 7:8 against Boll. The umpire did 100% the right thing. It's extremely rare to see Boll complain that intense and his reason was absolutely justified. Thank you umpire, you finally got it right.

What an exciting game. I loved the fault point for the illegal serve! I feel like we need more of that for players, who clearly aren't following the rules. I was scared the frustration of Timo overwhelms him, but he is indeed an expert in rage control. Always coming back, no matter how hard the match is!

Timo demonstrates 2 VERY IMPRESSIVE things in all his matches in the last few years: 1. The sheer amount of experience of the man. I mean when the opponent hits the ball, I instantly feel that Timo has already seen this exact return, with the exact amount of spin, power, placement a million times and he can win points just by selecting the "right response" to the shot. 2. The way he continuously refines his technique. I mean in this match, his movement, and shots were better than ever, it really shows how he never settles for a certain level of play, and he is constantly pushing himself to become even more skilled. A true testament of how humility and the principle of lifelong learning applies to all human activities. No one would think you can play like this at his age, but he's not having any of that! He doesn't care about what anyone thinks, he is focusing on himself and his technique. And he will NEVER STOP! Timo, you are a true inspiration for many many of us! Keep it up!

As Chinese fan, LIN Shidong is my favorit young player. I would be really sad, if he loses any game. But this time is Ok, because the opponent is TIMO BOLL 😂 Herzlichen Glückwunsch an Timo!

Adam's comment on European forehand vs. Chinese is enlightening. Europeans being larger use bent arm vs. straight arm for Chinese due to speed of the game. Recovery is quicker. If I recall, this was also true in the speed glue days.@@bobbob22146

First and foremost, congrats to Timo, he worked hard for the win! It’s a privilege to still watch him on the court. Now for the service issue. Although Timo was frustrated with Lin’s serve and rightfully so, the umpire should have dealt with the issue long before the 8:7 point. Penalizing Lin, or any athlete at such a crucial point of the game heavily disrupts the flow of the match and the players, especially after a timeout called BY Lin. Yes, the umpire has warned Lin previously, but also has turned a blind eye to the service until it was absolute crunch time for Lin. Timo called it at 4:4 of the third game; until 8:7 of the fourth Lin used the shovel serve. The penalization was the correct call, just call it earlier.

Most players using a shuffle serve, do it to hide the point of contact behind the shoulder or the head. It looses it’s effectiveness immediately, once you can clearly see the point of contact. Ruwen Filus as asked some time ago, who of the worlds top players is having the best service game. His reply was surprisingly clear. He didn’t want to give an answer to the question, since all top players try to hide contact point to make it tough to read the spin. The only thing, then umpire did wrong, was to call it out so late in the game. Timo is one of the best players, when it comes to reading the spin of the ball. If he misreads a bunch of serves, something strange is going on.

True fans know that Timo is a Legend and that age doesn’t matter for that guy. So much respect ❤

In the first half of the match, Timo just wins so many points due to the spin. Lin kept blocking the balls out or when Lin tries to counter, the balls fly out. 09c is a spiny rubber.

That hasn't much to do with the stupid rubber, it's bolls technique which produces insane amounts of topspin, not the rubber by some form of magic...😂

But advertising and that "X play good with this rubber so I must use it" is why brand pay player to use their equipment in the first place, so they will be wrong to not use these clip. I mean they probably will use some Boll compil anyway

Timo is smooth as silk on all dimensions - Tactics, Technical, Mental and Physical. I can only imagine how many more brilliant players could benefit from his coaching talent !! (Like Jorgen P., Ma Lin, Rossi, etc). Timo has proven over and over again that he can turn a match around in a blink of an eye. (ex: Lin G. Y. - 10-6 in a final and lost it) Kudos to Lin to be able to play so strong at his age. I love his demeanor ... so mature -and he will win many many finals !! Kudos to the ref, as they must put the pressure, so players don't take it to that type of "dirty" tactical level. Kudos to YOU TIMO ! Just inspiring to watch.

Lol, almost every serve Lin Shidong threw the ball slightly backward, shielding the ball with his body or shoulder, and he acted like he was surprised when the umpire finally called it fault? That toss and serve motion by Lin was not an accident, it's by design. I am glad the umpire finally called it. The better player in this match, Timo Boll deserved the win in spite of the unfair serve from his opponent throughout the match.

Maybe a yellow or red card could’ve been given to Lin instead of a point to Timo. Especially in a close out game. I felt a point given to Timo was a bit unfair in that situation.

The most insane thing about LSD's illegal serves is that Timo Boll is old enough to remember the times these serves wouldn't be illegal, so he could adapt, although he obviously was frustrated with the opponent breaking the rules.
