The 3rd engine is a turntable engine which is always 3rd to leave as it is a bit slower cause of weight

It might be manned by Retained or On Call firefighters who have to respond from home or their primary employment location .

Its likely they got knocked off by accident. If you are driving under emergency response, blue lights should definitely be on. Hopefully the white officers car that followed behind gave them a heads up on the radio.

What do the "UHPL" and "CAFS" above the windscreens signify?

Bots sure about UHPL it’s probably some Pump Ladder. CAFS however Is compressed air foam system (CAFS) you get RP CAFS or WL CAFS. RP CAFS is a rescue pump and foam unit. WL CAFS is a Pump ladder and foam unit

@@Surrey999 Well, only 1 was left behind, 3rd from left - and not clear if that is an in service appliance or not - I assume the 4th truck to roll was a retained crew? It depends on how many of those trucks are operational if it was full house or not!!

Basingstoke have 3 fire engines, an ALP, an RSV (heavy rescue) and command support van. 2 fire engines are whole time 1 fire engine is retained (respond from home) The ALP and RSV are often ‘double jumped’ from what I understand. This means one crew will crew both vehicles and take which ever is needed, leaving the other unmanned and unavailable. The incident support van is crewed by retained firefighters. So even in a full turn out, you’d never have completely empty bays at this station.
