(Full HD) Nina Simone’s Vocal Range: G♯2 - F5 (Demonstrated in Studio) (Only Version)

Музыка

This is Nina Simone's Vocal Range. Nina don't use to be the most perfect singer, she was a pianist, and a great one, but her Lyric Contralto timbre was one of the most unique in the world, and this is our gift to her fans.

This is what a real contralto sounds like. Dark, masculine, androgynous. This what I mean when only 2% of women have this voice type.

Much more than 2%, maybe 2% of singers, although a lot more than 2% women are contralto who aren't singers

That, ladies and gentlemen is a true contralto. Not Toni Braxton, not Jazmine Sullivan, not Lalah Hathaway. Listen to the androgynous timbre (and not just in lowest extremes, sopranos can sound slightly masculine there, especially with depressed tongue), the natural depth and richness of sound throughout and the ease she has - her low notes from D3 upwards don't even sound like low notes, they almost have the ease of midrange. Her tone deteriorates pretty early on, that's why notes as low as A4 are so much brighter and very nasal. Even her HV is thick and slightly tenor like, not very comfortable either.

+Ulisses Oliveira That's a pure contralto voice my friend! Nina Simone's contralto voice and artistry has been rivalled by few in the history of jazz. Perhaps Annie Lennox is another incredible contralto i can think of.

I don't understand people being like "she was the only true contralto". That's outright false. Her voice was unique and was more like a low tenor or probably a baritenor voice with a very extended vocal range.

For example a true operatic contralto, not mentioning different technique and different aims, should be able to sing from low F one octave above Nina Simone's low Ab and then up to a high A a few semitones higher than Nina's highest notes and with much more ease too... She has a unique and incredibly beautiful voice and was way lower than a contralto, in fact she could probably not even have been able to approach certain tenore rossiniano scores because they would very likely be written in a way too high tessitura for her kind of voice.

There are different types of contralto, there is contralto profondo, which is equivalent to a male voice, Simine was more of a female tenor/baritenor, her voice lies lower than a regular dramatic contralto.

Nina is a Dramatic Contralto, not a Lyric. Her vocal coloring is dark throughout the majority of all her registers. Her voice only lightened up from her D5 head voice and up. A Lyric Contralto has a low sounding voice with shades of "lightness in her belts from Bb4 and up". A Prime example is Alicia Keys, a fully matured Lyric Contralto. And a Dramatic contralto (Aside from Nina) is Cher, Anita Baker, & Toni Braxton. Either way lovely video, just wrong Contralto subtype label :)

Um, first of all you clearly aren't familiar with the vocal Fach. Alicia Keys, is NOW, and I repeat Not a mezzo. In her early career she was indeed a mezzo (2000-2005). However, like ALL singers, her voice matured into a contralto. Her Timbre is now lower than it was in her early career. And her vocal coloring has become deeper & husky in quality. She shines with ease at B4-Eb5 without strain. She use to be able to support a clear F5 without wavering or her voice cracking. Anyways this is about Nina, she IS A DEAMATIC CONTRALTO, her voice is very "dark & thick". A Lyric Contralto is "Tina Turner" "full voice with medium and a light textures. Btw, Toni sure as heck isn't a mezzo, now that's taking things to far. I suppose you think "Cher" is a Soprano now? Smh

I agree with the Taylor swift being a poor technique "light lyric soprano". I use to think she was a mezzo, but her low notes are way to breathy & unsupported to be a mezzo. You say Nina's voice is to light? Well go watch Shade's "By your side" video, she's a true "light weight contralto".

+SimplyMJ This comment about contraltos comes from you who also claimed Britney was a coloratura contralto? Hmm... B4-Eb5 without strain? Clear F5 without cracking? I love Alicia but her belting has to be some of the iffiest in the pop music industry alongside Christina right now. She has belted some good notes up to Eb5 ok but rarely brilliantly and half the time she does indeed strain, with her larynx pulled way up and is often pitchy af. Her F5s are rare and even then they are brief. And all singers voices do of course mature but that does not always necessarily mean their voices completely change fach. Voices rarely change fach over time, especially 10 years - maybe 20+ years they do, depending on how healthy they stay and how good their technique is. Alicia is a textbook mezzo soprano with a very good lower register aided by a natural huskiness to her voice. The only true way I believe a voice can change fach is a massive, long change to one's health such as vocal abuse (be it bad technique or drugs/smoking) or simply years of wear and tear and age (e.g. Julie Andrews went from light lyric coloratura soprano in her teens, to full lyric soprano in her 20s and 30s to a lyric mezzo by the end of her 40s - this was a much longer process than Alicia has supposedly taken to change fach since her debut album). Alicia is in her mid 30s, she should be in her vocal prime, not already changed fach because her upper register is allegedly shot.
