You could also give your cats a cat corner, where you plant cat grass and cat nip to give them a place to want to be more than in your lilies and you could put a scaredy cat plant in the bed of lilies to deter you beautiful cats 😁

Hey, Jess... Try growing Algonquin squash (C. Pepo). It is a Native American variety that is resistant to squash bugs. The vines and leaves are a little "prickly", so you definitely need to wear gloves. Best wishes from Kate in Olympia, WA - 6/18/2019.

I've grown Lillies for decades with cats. Never had an issue. Never. I wouldn't worry too much. Animals are surprisingly good at avoiding what can harm them. ;-)

I agree. We have "stray" neighboring cats and they have been in the Lilly (aka bulb bed) and never had any issue. I would never put Lillies inside because the inside cats get curious and eat them (which is leads to poisoning). But the outside cats have more to be curious about.

I love your garden tours :) I'm living vicariously through you this year...getting there again with a garden, but tomatoes and peppers look a little week here in New England. Garlic I planted last fall is looking good though! And...crazy thing - I planted onion sets last year. They did not take. I left them in and they are growing now and some getting bigger...go figure!

Love love love your tours! I'm up here in zone 7a, so its good to see what's coming. I'm having some similar experience, no cukes yet but harvested my first banana pepper today! i'm growing the kaho melon too and mine doesn't have fruits yet but i'm looking forward to that very soon. i'll also be watching for when you start harvesting ground cherries, im trying them for the first time ever, and they are HUGE and full of fruits but i have no idea when they will be ready

Hi from Mass. I literally just transplanted to our garden, it has been very wet & cool here. As of this week we have finally had a break and a warm streak. In my 30 years of home gardening I have never planted so late. God Bless & Good harvest!

I’m in Northern California but it is so hot! My garden almost died with all the rain in May but, I started my garden in April and I’m just now seeing tomatoes ripening and more squash!

Thank you for this encouraging update. I live just on the other side of the Arkansas border into Oklahoma, about 2.5 hours from y'all, and have been experiencing the same weather. We were a little later getting our plants in this year but they are looking promising so far. I had to comment once I saw you are growing Lemon Squash. I started growing it about 5 years ago and absolutely love it. The squash bug battle is always tough but like you, I can't bring myself to sacrifice any pollinators to chemicals. I grow mine in a tomato cage which makes it a little easier for me to flick those dudes down into a soapy cup. Keep up the good fight! God bless you and your family.

It has been so hot here in Modesto CA, I have been harvesting tomato’s, cucumbers, strawberries an bush beans. I made a giant bowl of fresh salsa with my tomato’s and peppers, yum. It won’t last long.

i actually bought some sour gerkins from Bakers Creek after listening to your talk about them. It took forever it to grow but that thing seems to thrive better than any of the other cucumber plants I have. That thing it grabbing onto everything around it. I seen little tiny cucumbers coming up. I can't wait to share them with everybody to make an impression since nobody around here even knows what they are here in South Carolina.

Jess, when doing your garden tours, do you have a cheat sheet, or an absolute awesome memory identifying what each plant is. I wouldn't ask except you have so many different types of say cantaloupe and the plants look exactly the same. Regardless, I'm impressed and feel you have the best gardening vlog anywhere!!

Love your channel! I watch every day. Just want to add that Iillies are just about my favorite flower I have always had them. Also, I have always have a cat, now I have 2 that just moved in with us. My cats will eat all kinds of grasses, even my spider plants but I have never seen one even sniff the lillies, and they are everywhere, in my garden, down the drive, in the veggie patch, window boxes, and on the deck both front and back. The last kitty I had, Chloe, she lived to over 18 yrs of age. She didn't die of lily poisoning. So, yes, be careful but don't lose sleep over it. Thanks for the many hours of inspiration and courage you have given me for gardening and for life in general. Your devotionals are some of my favorites.

Hi Jess, your gardens and tours are so inspiring and beautiful. I totally enjoy your vlogs. I track my gardens’ progress by seeing what’s growing in yours. Keep up the good work! So about the “daylillies being dangerous to cats” thing... just my experience and two cents... I have seven cats- typical cat lady- when my husband died I needed living creatures around me- and they have full access to my totally fenced in yard with flower and veggie gardens. Their ages range from 11 to 15 years old, and I’ve had them all since they were old enough for me to adopt them. They do chew on grasses occasionally- I’ve heard it helps an upset tummy- I’m not an expert by any means- but I’ve never had them chew on my daylillies - as far as I know anyway- or any other flowers. They love to lay in the flower garden in the shade of some of the bigger leaved plants and for some reason they like my asparagus bed for their bathroom 😜but plants aren’t on their menu. Your memorial garden is a beautiful idea. Trust your gut and common sense.

sooo much wisdom and so many great tips thank you so much! I planted zinnias that were called candy cane, but they do not look anythinng like that, they all seem to be groving on a 70's looking theme, LOL...sorta oranges and yellows and creams and tomato reds, very cool, not what I was expecting, but that makes it neat! note to self, only a FEW plants on the trellis, not one at each square! sigh...they are all choking each other, getting some beans but not growing up like yours are....great learning experience..=)

Flowers in a veggie garden...food for the belly and food for the soul. I am trying something for squash bugs I heard about of FB last year. I am dousing fish emulsion on my squash plants right after it rains and several times a week. So far, so good.

28:45 SMART choice with the Lillies. My friend's cat just ended up in the Vet ER just a few weeks ago with near fatal kidney shutdown. They were shocked to learn it was their anniversary lillies!
