FULL Express Ride Aboard Acela 2150 from New York to Boston 11/11/22

Taken from Car 2 (3502) of Acela Trainset #20 (#2026/#2029)
Relatively super fast 3 hr 40 min run, pretty good considering the Metro-North section is so crappy. This train only stops at Stamford before running non-stop to Providence, making it one of only 3 trains and 2 eastbounds to skip New Haven.

I did a complete ride last year from New Haven to Boston on the Acela. Honestly, I get turned off by the slow running between New York and New Haven. I was hoping to do another Acela express ride to Boston in the snow but so far there hasn’t been any snow. I think Amtrak should market a nonstop to Boston that stops at Stanford Route 128 Back Bay in south station running time in the morning about three hours and 10 minutes and an evening train back. I’d like to see Boston in New York closer by rail than what it is.

I think Providence should be served instead of Route 128 because it's a major city and the approaches on both ends are already really slow. Until the New Haven line is completely reworked, I don't know if we'll get schedules under 3 1/2 hours purely due to Metro-North-related delays. 77 miles in 100 minutes in unacceptable for the NEC, especially considering that they can do the 91 miles from New York to Philly in 80 minutes or less.

@@nathanjiang100 I’ve heard of Acela express rides being done and as little as three hours and 10 minutes, but that’s if everything falls into place. Overall, I am not impressed with the running times on those trains New York to Boston. My favorite part is between New Haven and Boston because they can really rocket on that stretch.

well really the entire New Haven Line should be faster. The Acelas are scheduled for 100 minutes for the 75 between New York and New Haven. By contrast, 91 miles from New York to Philly takes 80 minutes on the Keystone and under 70 minutes on the Acela

Yo I always forget that there are 3 Acela trains that skip New Haven on weekdays. My mind still cannot associate New Haven as a station any trains would bypass. The stretch between Stamford and Providence isn't the longest station gap I've seen but it definitely is pretty long. I enjoyed seeing this video!

I can't actually think of a station gap larger than STM to PVD off the top of my head other than the Acela nonstop. Actually BRP is the largest city in CT by population but yeah I feel like if anything they should skip STM instead of NHV

@@nathanjiang100 None of the longest station gaps I was thinking of are in the United States lol. I was thinking of Lumo in the UK. They have a few trains during rush hour that run nonstop between London's King's Cross and Newcastle (3 hour station gap). 8:54 seems nuts to me as an Australian that the corridor goes through all these dense neighbourhoods with poor or extremely slow subway connections yet there's still no service or stations along this entire corridor until New Rochelle, and most of the subway lines just end in the middle of nowhere rather than extending to terminate at rail lines which aren't that far away.

yeah a lot of it is just politics and a broken system here. people just have a super stingy mindset these days and everyone goes straight to the price tag rather than the potential economic impact. I've been on High-Speed trains in Spain and China, and recorded the rides in Spain like this one. Flying at 300-350 km/h is super amazing compared to a measly 250 km/h top speed here, and even that is only reached in very few areas. The Acela averages around 108 km/h which is depressing at best.

@@nathanjiang100 😅 108 km/h! It's not crazy! in France distances of 460 miles are done in 3 hours! But beware, it is indeed expensive! very expensive ! but we have tickets at 20 euros in second class and in first class you can count 180 euros which is expensive in the train, it's the bar car! if you want a coffee you have to leave your salary lol! I saw that in California they are building the first real high-speed line I don't think you need high-speed everywhere in your country given the distances but on certain routes of 450 or 600 miles having a fast train is is an alternative to flying
