    Great informative video. I'm 4 weeks into wearing dentures. I had 19 extractions and wear my immediate dentures daily. I remove them each night to allow my gums and jaw bones to rest. I'm not able to bite into food yet. I can eat a hamburger just fine using a knife and fork instead of biting into it. My speech is good. In 6 to 12 months I will get my permanent set. Very happy with my decision. Best regards

    Hi Grace. Glad that you're doing so well with your treatment! Patience is a must when undergoing these extensive treatments. It does take a few months for your gums and bone to heal after such an extensive surgery, so have to wait a while before getting your permanent dentures. Be sure to wear your immediate denture and get as comfortable with them as you possibly can. This way, when it's time to make your permanent dentures, you can tell your dentist what you liked about them and what you didn't like. Communicating your experience can help your dentist make you a much better set of teeth. For example, did you like the color of the teeth? Size? Position? Did you have sore lesions? Gag reflex? etc. Discuss your concerns with your dentist and he or she can make you a much better permanent denture when the time comes. Good luck!

    I believe this is the first video I've found of an actual dentist who does implants not pushing implants on people! Thank you! Very informative and insightful from your point of view! I appreciate your knowledge and how well you explain what you look for. I'm going through the process right now, and am waiting to take impressions for full upper and lower. I'm going to check your channel for a video on taking good impressions, if you don't have one, you might consider making one. Most Dentists aren't very helpful and often they don't know themselves how to take a good useful impression that a lab can work with. Thanks again for this video!

    Thank you for your feedback. I hear what you’re saying. I like dental implants a lot, but not everyone needs them. My own dad, he wears dentures, and I offered to give him some free implants. “No I’m good”, he said. And he’s right. He does really well with his dentures. Hopefully you will do just as well with your new teeth.

    Hi DJ. Glad to hear you're doing so well with your dentures! In my experience, the earlier in life you transition to dentures, the more comfortable you get with them. Also, the larger the dentures, the more grip, so it makes sense that your new dentures are more comfortable than the pervious set. By the way, what caused your tooth loss at such an early age? Thank you for sharing your experience.

    I’m 29 years old and I’m getting for upper and lower dentures in 26 days. My teeth aren’t to the point where I can save them. And maybe in future I’ll consider a implant supported denture but my genetics are horrible. Everyone in the family has dentures so I’m a bit young but I’m very happy to get it done and I think it’s the right choice for me although I have a crippling fear of having it done with absolutely zero sedation but I have had my wisdom and all molars removed years ago so I only have 19 simple extraction so I’m praying for a smooth operation and hopefully it goes well. Any encouragement goes along way because again being only 29 years old it’s tough but I’m doing it for my health and for my kids because the pain I live with everyday with horrible teeth is absolutely miserable. So about 25 days to go! Too late to change my mind now! Immidiate dentures here I come I’m so happy to be able to smile for once I’m my life. Also my dentist did say it looks like a very straight forward case with good jaw and gum to hold on it but he did agree that this is my best route

    Hi Brody. I'm sorry that you are faced with such a dilemma. It's hard for people to understand how a young man, or woman, would be better off with no teeth than keeping their remaining teeth. However, if you have end-stage gum disease, or teeth that have been completely rotten, then you are indeed better off with no teeth. Infected teeth, as well as teeth impacted by end stage gum disease, are painful. They also harbor bacteria that are released into the bloodstream and messes up your whole health. It sounds to me like you're making the right decision. I hope the immediate dentures fit well and wish you a quick recovery.

    Hi Dorothy. Sorry to hear about that. It's not unusual for the lower jaw to shrink, causing your denture to become loose. This is especially common with the lower full dentures. I would look into the option of adding two or more dental implants and making a snap on dentures, if you can afford it.

I was told and thought they would be just like my old se6 only fit better. I have to be honest i dont like them. They arent the same. I show so much gum when i smile. I dont with my old set. The bottom plate are hard to get in. I have to seat the left side first then work the right side down and it is very painful. I have a larger mouth and dtill have good bone structure nor do i gag. Im disappointed that i dont love them. It took me four months of wax yry ins and such to get them. Im up to wearing them for eight hours straight. I have deveral sore spots but im trying. Im trying to get used to them. Any tips or hints to help ?

    Hi Tiaza. Sorry to hear about your struggles with the new denture. You've been wearing dentures for forever, so I'll get right to the good stuff. A "new" denture isn't always better. Your jawbone shrinks over time. As a result, an older denture may be a better fit since you had more jawbone back then and you're just used to it. One option is to ask your dentist to take an impression of your existing dentures so that the size is identical to what you are used to. Another trick is to simply replace the teeth on your older denture. My dad had an old denture that he wanted to replace. His only gripe was that his teeth had worn down. The fit was fantastic. I decided to send the dentures to the lab, replace all the teeth, and solved the problem. Maybe you can ask your dentist to do this. Let me know if that helps and best of luck.

    Hello there. 16 tooth extraction last July/Aug. I only have 2 lower teeth left, one on each side. I then waited 7 wks for temp dentures to be fitted (mid Sept) following healing.. Top ones fit fine, bottom either fall out immediately or are so tight that they are too painful. Terrible trouble with gag reflex. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated as I go back next week to discuss permanent sets.

  • @johnjazayeri

    @johnjazayeri

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Wendy. Ok, so my understanding is that your bottom denture is the one that is bothering you, plus, you have two lower teeth to anchor the lower partials. I have two recommendations regarding you situation: (1) Make your lower partial as small as possible. By this, I mean put as few back teeth as you can on the denture. I know that everyone thinks they are getting new dentures they might as well get as many teeth to chew better. This is incorrect. Adding more teeth when you have a bad gag reflex does more harm than good. The more teeth you have, the worse your gag reflex, the more pressure on the cheeks and tongue, and the more sore lesions on your gum tissue. I suggest that you stick with 3 or even 2 posterior teeth on each side. During the teeth tryin step pay close attention to how the lower teeth feel. Ask your dentist to remove an extra tooth, or more, from the back and see if it feels more comfortable. If your plan it accordingly, you will have a much more comfortable partial denture from the beginning and avoid having to receive a dozen adjustments before realizing that your denture is too large! (2) Think carefully about the material used for your lower partial. You have the option of cast metal vs. flexible for a permanent partial. You mentioned that the teeth hurt. This is a sign that flexible dentures might be more comfortable. Otherwise, I would have recommended the cast metal. Talk to your dentist to see which option feels better to you and what he or she recommends. Good luck and let me know how it all works out.

    @John Jazayeri Went Friday for my 7mth appt. Top set are a fine fit. Bottom set won't stay in at all (less than 5 seconds). Dentist says I have "too much shrinkage/bone loss. No amount of reline or adhesive will work. Not my fault they fall out, you ask for a denture, I made it, I fit it, it falls out, nothing I can do". Nothing he can do unless I pay for a new bottom set.!! The lower ones have never been worn because they don't fit well. Guess I have to try cushion grip reline and adhesive. If that doesn't work, save for a new bottom set. £500 WASTED!! Absolutely furious that having got my money, they now don't care.

You’re a doctor and you just implied that people with dentures didn’t take care of their teeth? There are numerous reasons people suffer from loss of teeth; genetics, birth defects, hormone disorders, pregnancy, enamel issues, drug abuse, night grinding, fear of dentist, accidents/trauma, cost factors of routine dental care, mental disorders and bad dental care to name a few. I would hope you would help educate people of that fact instead of feeding the negative stigma associated with early tooth loss.

    @@Kathleen67.That's what happened to me, a dentist put fillings in all of my teeth when I was 16 and I didn't need them. Most of the fillings weren't even done right so I couldn't floss right or the floss would catch and pull out fillings or cut the floss which put me on the fast track for needing crowns cause there wasn't enough tooth left to properly hold fillings. Then they didn't put the crowns on right so there was always a gap between the top of each crown and my gums so my teeth started rotting under them where food debris collected and I didn't know any of that was happening until I was an adult and chose to see a different dentist and by then I had to have most of them pulled and a few root canals and now I'm just having the rest pulled and getting dentures. When I was 16 I only had a few white spots on my teeth and no visible cavities so idk why they drilled into all my teeth other than trying to get money.
