Full Custom Ian Roussel and His Wife Jamie Introduce You To Persephone 🌼Dune Buggy Break Repair!
Jamie is aware the sound is weird...Shop Gremlins are at it again! 🙃🤪
It's SPRING in the desert and that means snakes and dune buggies are waking up! 🐍
A few years back, Ian restored an old Manx Safari dune buggy, the buggy is a 1957 chassis. Ian built this for Jamie as a gift after they got married! Ian and his friend Allen painted her a beautiful golden color like the sunshine that warms the desert! Now that spring is here and Ian is close to getting the engine installed in his buggy, Jamie really wanted to have proper working breaks in the car.
With the help of Erie Eric @Eerieeric7 😎 he was able to capture Ian and Jamie in their natural habitat, and Ian was able to give Jamie a lesson in breaks repair! As it turns out, nothing is ever as it seems and it may not be the breaks after all!

@@olddragguy We like catching up on past projects, also. As fans of other shows ( ❤@Roadkill 😄) we are always wondering what happened to this car or that, will they ever work on *name truck* again, remember...wonder who ended up with that one, do they cruise it to shows? So just a hint for future content Ian and Jamie - an occasional 'look back' @Full Custom Ian. It may be impossible to follow up and/or get updated pix years after...but we'll be tickled with whatever update we could get - maybe even a chime in from current homes if folks are willing?! You can visit an art gallery or museum, but these are alive, evolving, and got wheels 🚙. Love ya'll!

It kinda looked like the right front brake hose was swelling when the brake petal was pushed. Wonder if the hoses ae old and fixing to let go? Love Jamie's laugh.
Love that Studebaker nose on the VW squareback.
Eric & Ian 😂😂😂 You Guys Rock!!!!

Your a lucky man to have a woman interested in your business and willing to learn. People say VWS are so easy to work on, try figuring out the wiring on an original old bug. I have a 70 square back and a72 Riviera bus it's been a nightmare making it all work.
Glad you found the problem with the brakes. If you want a good book for your older VW Jamie, I would recommend, "How to keep your Volkswagen alive" by John Muir. It has helped me out several times.

Hello!!!
Good to see what you do with the bullet nose🎉
Hi, Persephone🥰🥰🥰🥰!! You’re adorable
Really digging the bullet nose in the background. Are we going to see that project on this channel??
So I click on Being A Trailer and lo and behold there's a International Harvester pick up with the nose Ian had removed from the cab over. It was easily identifiable even without VW headlights!!!
What wait Erie Eric can see ?😎 I thought he was blind based on his last appearance it's like a miracle just happened 🙏
You never want Juicy brakes.
I feel your pain, I'm working on some brakes. Unfortunately they are on an old Cat 12 road grader !
Well there you go.If it ain't one thing it's another. Lovin' the format. Y'all'er killin' it. And that bullet nose Studie; will we be seeing her in the future? Oh, and before I forget, good to see you again, Eric. Thanks again y;all.

Yes, the one way check valve on the master cyllinder piston is sticking intermentally and pushing the fluid back into the reservoir instead of the brake lines.
Hey Ian, clean and paint the cylinder before you install to fight the rust! Do they make proportioning master cylinders to retrofit? Seem like they should by now… I was running a VW shop in the seventies. Watching your video made me miss the fun we used to have playing with VWs! Good stuff Ian! Glad you have your KZread stuff going but I want to see the TV projects you tease about!
I had trouble with my brakes ,still do really. We drove it at our favorite mud park out here in Missouri. But it seems the Mastor cylinder would lock up. And the push rod AkA , bolt, was getting stuck. Still no brakes , got to work on it this spring.
Mystery solved better part longer life more fun accept in the damn wind thanks for the video

Thank you for sharing. Wow, those rear drums came off easy, try that in the salt capital of Ohio. LOL Enjoyed.🛸👽👍
You need a residual inline valve... the master cylinder is low enough that allows a little bit of fluid to flow back possibly drawing in a small air lock. All aftermarket brake companies have them... ask me how I know.
Such a rad little buggy! Cool little how to for anyone just getting into vw stuff. I love how simple of a car they are.
My educated guess is that there is AIR in the brake line or a supply line from the master is not flowing enough fluid from the master
FYI: that is an early bus master cylinder
Restoring two dunebuggies...wish this video was around when I was working on mine. Great video...really educational.

Brakes aside that's a nice looking ridge runner.
Great Video Ian…I can imagine seeing wife’s for the first time standing in their doorways waiting for their husbands to come home so they could tell about the video they watched by Full Customs Ian. Then they go into full manager mode and ask them when it was the last time they checked their brake pads, wheel cylinders, master cylinders or for air in their brake lines.…lol..😂😂😂
AMC Gremlins in the shop again! 🙃🤪
Cool chick, hi Jamie... love that you support your hubby, same here. Makes for a good life, we've done 41 years so far 🙂
Nice episode guys, was nice to have Jamie out from behind the camera for a change, great job of explaining what goes on in the braking system Ian. There’s a lot of people that just climb behind the wheel start the car and haven’t a clue what stops the car. Even if she never changes a set of brakes on her own Jamie now has the knowledge of the mechanics of the system. Was a little surprised to see drums on all 4 corners as most switch the fronts out for discs but then I remembered it’s a VW that was born that way, can we talk about that Studebaker that was off to the one side for a second that thing looks like it’s going to be a sweet ride and I hope we get to see Ian doing some fab work on it.
Jamie breaks the breaks, err, brakes :)
My first job in the parts department was a Datsun dealership who also sold Studebaker's before they went out of business this was 1972:there was still odd's and end's of Studebaker parts up stairs.
Really like your videos your supposed to laugh and have fun so tell your wife to keep laughing and have fun
Great episode. Good to see you two working well together. Hey, I know the older Jeep crowd frequently switches to dual master cylinders. I've had brakes fail three times in Jeeps with single cylinders, so now It's a high priority for me. It would make sense for VW fans to do that as well.

Can stop eyeballing the Stude. 😃
As usual, an entertaining episode
My first car was a 500.$ BaJa Buggy I earned from mowing lawns in 76 - I was 15yrs old . Drove it for 5yrs and sold it for 500.$ - I drove the Hell out of it - I put $ in brakes. Only because you want to stop. But the hand brake was soooo much more fun- going into turns and scaring the S out of passengers

The only thing I could advise is if you add wheel adapters for a different rim size take in account the weight difference. I changed my master brake cylinder out with a larger one. But the hand brake was sooo much fun for me. I was Drifting before it became a sport
