I know this is a late comment but.. Search up AK-53, it is a very weird LMG/Rifle with a forward-moving barrel, it has to use a mag with no feed lips just like what you have, and to make the mag open & lock automatically upon insertion it uses two arms that are kinda like moving feed lips I guess, when it's inserted into the magwell they open up because the mag well pushes on them from the other end. if you ever re-visit this build and want a more simple to use mag, this may help.

Certainly possible, there is.the Caselman air machine gun in .32 so I don't see why not. That being said you'll have to adapt to a different PVC tube and bullet size.

How do you make the piston move back again after a round has been fired? is there a spring that pushes it back when the pressure drops again?

They are pex tubing about 16MM. You can also use a sprinkler valve.
