If you use a small af area and move it to the general direction of the object or person you want in focus, then keep the back button pushed in and it’ll track until you let go, then move to something else, seems to work ok for me, but then I’m not using a fringer.

this can actually be simplified even further if you switch the af lock button to toggle instead of hold. I do something similar though and it has yet to fail me.

I’m using the xt4 with the native 16-55 f2.8 and the focus pulls in af are way smoother. Thought of upgrading but this kinda holds me back :/ I came from Canon RP which was half the price when I switched and I was so disappointed about the xt4 not having continuous af tracking in video. It’s crazy the xh2s and xt5 are still missing it

Gotta get the firmware updated this weekend but I’m curious if you’ve tested this with other lenses? I used to shoot the fringer adapter on my xt3 and it was way way way worse than using the lens natively on canon or using the xf lenses.

@@itsaaronmiller All the feedback I've seen with past firmware says native lenses perform better than fringer adapted EF lenses including the 18-35 Art lens. They also say that the newer Fuji Linear motor lenses perform the best out of the Fuji lens lineup. The only non Fuji lens I've seen get great feedback is the Viltrox 13mm and that is a STM, so I guess Viltrox made magic happen there. Evan Schneider did a test with Fuji XF 16-55 2.8, Fuji 23mm 1.4, and then the Fringer Pro II adapter with Sigma Art 18-35 1.8, Sigma Art 24-70 2.8 and said the native lenses performed better and that he'd trust the native setup.

I don't know if you're aware of this, but Fringer TOLD me, when I asked through their website, that their adapter does NOT translate autofocus speed at all. No matter how you tweak the settings. Does this make sense in your experience, even in this new firmware? I see so many videos testing different speed settings with the fringer, so I figured either people need to learn this or Fringer/Fuji has some kind of magic that it does work with some lenses. Either way, this inconsistency is sadly enough to scare me from combining these systems.

The set AF Speed definitely does not translate in your examples. I tested the new firmware and played with the custom AF settings and when I set the AF Speed to -5 it‘s really slow/soft (in my opinion already to slow 😅). Also important to note that the custom AF settings also only work when you hit the record button! So a new video without fringed adapter would be great - otherwise a lot of people will think the autofocus is bad and unusable for video.

I'm actually surprised the Fringer works as well as it does. I'd recommend renting Fuji's 50-140mm f2.8 for ideal testing of video autofocus with the new firmware and Fuji's 18mm f1.4 or 16mm f1.4 for stills.

I think you put it well a few times... This level of AF is important for self-filming when pulling focus manually isn't an option. Or the ol' run n' gun film making style that has become popular, but even that is manageable with manual lenses. The term "robotic" accurate describes the problem. Fuji's recipe lacks finesse. It's not an accuracy issue. If you're doing simple, present-to-camera work, talking head or like unboxing, you'll be fine with previous model, less expensive cameras. But at $2500, Fuji is starting to take the Panasonic plunge, whereby it's a fantastic camera with so much more to offer than AF, but it will become indicted by the masses for not having competent subject tracking at this price point. I really hoped they'd have it nailed with this generation of camera. I think they're generally close, and conditionally exceptional.

Video AF makes sense for self filming and wildlife videos… maybe wildlife. But otherwise I don’t want a computer to decide where the focal point is for me. AF does not know how to tell a story. Edit: with that said. AF smoothness is dependent on your lens choice in the Fuji system. Their LM lenses pull focus smoothly. Like the 16-55, 50-140, 18-55, 33mm, 18mm, etc

The X-H2S is a superior camera to both the S5 II and S5 IIx. Rolling shutter performance isn’t a minor feature. It also cannot touch the X-H2S’ higher bitrate internal recording formats.

@@ghas4151 Totally agree with the benefits of a stacked sensor. Fuji rolling shutter is the closest thing to a Komodo global. But I won't be panning around for my shoots so, there are more important things to consider. For instance, external ssd recording. My take is that internal recording is overrated. I'd rather have ssd external recording instead, its cheaper and efficient, just plug and edit. On paper, the XH2s is superior to the S5II but IRL, i think you have a better deal with Lumix. You could use a real-time lut to get False color, Shutter Angle, Waveforms, anamorphic deesqueze... Just think about it, the S1H is Netflix approved and the S5 is carrying the same sensor minus OLPF, guess the S5II is a bit better now. If it's good enough for Netflix use, its more than enough for me.

@@smartideas-pedro1690 I think Ghas is just repeating what the fuji marketing team told him sadly...even the s5ii or s5 had way superior colors and better useable dynamic range than these new fuji. Also fuji now with its trash ibis and af (it looks to me that its worst than the xt-4 in video) and not working well = falling really behind at the same price of an FF body. Panasonic primes are cheaper than fuji too...also noise level is really bad on fuji and the over processing of the footage??? oversharpening like my grandma's 200$ phone haha. Bitrate is not everything, another thing fuji is pushing, forcing you to buy expensive cards/// I think the hyspter ride of fuji color profile which is just an instagram filter simulation is coming to an end..particularly with panasonic giving you the ability to upload any lut to use as add ons on any base profile they already have in camera :)
