Love your test setup! Thx for this good comparison. I feel I get more (wildlife) shots with the new firmware, but it may be just wishful thinking on my part😏

Thanks a lot man, it was very insightful. Would love to see the comparison test with new f1.4 primes (also for photography) though

I do need to go back and do photo mode tests. The photo video modes behave very differently for AF.

I may decide to conduct such tests with the native glass. I see more videos displaying AF tests with 3rd party glass... too many variables.

@@GrayGhostDog1 You should. The lenses will have a big impact. I cut the explainer out but the reason we used 3rd party was because that's what we had pairs of on hand. I figured it was better to have a direct comparison with the same lenses to take out that variable.

the autofocus was already very good the firmware improves reliability in certain situations like the fact that it would lose focus if there was a green hedge in the background. or it improves the precision of having more subjects moving at the same time, for example a basketball or football match

You won't see much of a change if you don't have it on power boost mode (120fps live view.) I don't know what setting you had with that, but you might find better results with the power mode set to boost.

Hi, nice video! I m terrible unsatisfied with this upgrade! I find myself to trash most than 50 percent of my pics since they are at least 2 stops underexposed when shooting with teleconverter 1. 4 + 70-300 mm, either in manual mode and shutter priority, but always in auto iso up to 6400. Anyone else noticed that?

Would be best if the inspection is done one camera after another instead of both cameras at once.

Thanks for carrying out this test.👊 I tried out the Fuji XT5 video Eye/Face autofocus and it was missing focus like crazy. So, I was thinking the Fuji X-H2s will be better but Nope its not. I will stay with the Fuji XT5...

It's pretty much lens dependant (new LM lenses work pretty well as well as the small fujicrons) and you must tweak the settings a bit to make it work for you. In your menu screen focus tab, change Release/focus priority setting from release to focus, deactivate AF+MF, and lastly change your focus mode to ALL (I personally use tracking it it's very snappy). Is it Sony level=definitely not, but a good 85% there.

why have Nd filters if you will increase the shutter anyways and also... why buy a xh2s if you wont use f-log2? might as well buy a xt4.

Would be nice to see the AF tests with the camera on a gimbal or go hand held and test the camera that way. These static tests don’t really show us much being that the autofocus was already really good before 3.0. Subbed 👍

And I was wondering whether I should invest in the X H2s... xf 150-600 or Sony A74... 200-600... Both, almost the same price. Sony might have worse colours but higher picture quality and focus Fuji might have better colours by lower picture quality and focus... Seriously Confused !

That's a lot of might haves... even though those cameras are the same in price, they are vastly different other than just their sensor sizes. If I were doing fast moving action and/or wildlife I would pick the X-H2s due to its fast readout stacked sensor and faster mechanical and electronic shutter speed capabilities.

I'm assuming it's for wildlife photos? The X-H2S might be better with more fps burst, pre-capture mode that buffers shots when half-pressing the shutter so you get the exact moment. The A7iv loses 14 bit readout at at anything faster than 7fps, so you'll lose about 1-2 stops of dynamic range just from that alone (so it kinda becomes equal with an APS-C dynamic range?). Then again wildlife is often shot at ISO 3200 or so, so I'm assuming it won't make a difference. The XF also tops at f/8 at 600. Whereas you might be better off cropping the 600mm which is at f/6.3 on the Sony in post. I don't shoot wildlife but a friend of mine says it is ridiculously tough to track birds at 900mm equivalent so to him it makes more sense shooting at 600m and cropping in post. He shoots with an A7iv/A1.

Easy, pick your system based on lenses (newer bodies with better lights & whistles come out all the time). The sony G 200-600 is a much better lens than it's fuji counterpart despite the differences in reach. It's brighter, faster, produces much better image quality (even after cropping) and is not affected by diffraction as early as the Fujinon (at F8 the XF image starts to soften considerably so you have to shoot it wide open all time) I shoot both systems and prefer Fuji for my travels, street and family pics but for work, sports and wildlife I always pick the Sony (and I have an a74 not an A1). Anyways, pick your lenses first, then the body

Save yourself money, and don't buy this camera! I ve been using my xh2s since October, I do mostly wildlife photography, and more than 40 percent of pics every time end up in the trash, because underexposed or autofocused. I don't see a big improvement compared to the xt4, expect for the higher cost!

@@Breathh are you in focus priority or release priority? (if in release priority, try switching to focus). Also if you are shooting at 40 FPS, perhaps bump down to 30 or 20 to see how it compares...

@Lucas Rocks Films According to FUJI 20fps renders a 95%hit rate. They also say most reviews are at the 60fps which tenders a better hit rate than the competition at that fps.
