    Nice vid man, but you're wrong about the native Fujifilm M-mount adapter, it's not just a dumb connector; it allows you to program the corrections for distortion, falloff and color shading for each lens (which you definitely need with Leica glass on a non-Leica body). For all the other adapters these correction options are grayed out.

    I need Fujifilm to quit playing and make the X-Pro M complete with a default M Mount and silent electronic shutter. One can only dream. The M glass and RF style bodies from Fujifilm just look so damn classic and natural as shown in the video. The feature about my work really warmed my heart, man. Thank you so much for the appreciation and observation about being flexible when it comes to working a scene to get the shot you want. I will always shout out Lords: Winogrand, W. I have been actively shooting almost daily for over 5 years now and own an extensive amount of Minolta cameras and glass, and somehow never knew the reasoning behind the fstops on both sides of the lens… I certainly feel dumb seeing as I use these things daily but now I know 😂 Awesome video

    For those worried about vignetting and corner sharpness (some say smearing which is weird to me after 30 years of photography) remember these are ff lenses, so on the crop APSC the edges will show less as more of the centre of the image circle is used.

    One of the reasons I added the x-pro3 to my gear was exactly that: being able to use all my M lenses without having to get yet another set of lenses. Interestingly some of my rarely used lenses (mostly an Elmarit 21mm f/2.8 ASPH used for architecture) found a new life in street photography as a (almost ) 33mm !

    Great video, I've pretty much given up on autofocus unless I'm with my toddler and only have one free hand. It's way more satisfying to hit a shot with manual focus. I may have gone a little overboard and picked up the 21mm f4 the 28 and 35 Ultrons and the 40mm nokton. The 21mm and 35 are my favorites so far. I ordered a Pixii camera recently so I'm excited to try these lenses on that camera. I rented an m10 but really didn't like the sensor output I was getting.

I basically shoot my current lenses like this during the day and only really use autofocus at night. I'm wondering about the focus scale on the crop sensor. Since you're on a smaller sensor does that mean you get more depth of field at wider apertures than on FF?

    The TT Artisan 25mm f5.6 knock off of the Leica Summaron works quite well on the X Pro3. Its about 40mm equiv in full frame terms, but it has been designed for scale focusing and works really well. I got it for street work with the OVF, particularly monochrome in daylight so I can just stop it down to F11 and forget the focussing. It also works well for monochrome in lower light if you let the ISO float, quite convincingly film like results if that is what you want!

    Is the focus distance scale still accurate after adapting it on an APSC lens? I've read on forums that distance markings are abit off especially when focusing on infinity due to the smaller sensor size.

  • @DeeRosa

    @DeeRosa

    Жыл бұрын

    I shoot street when I use the focus scales and the thing to remember is the lens doesn’t change properties just because it’s on a crop sensor. Only field of view changes. Crop NEVER effects aperture or focal length - just what the length looks like. So I know that 21mm at f8 is in “focus” from 2.5m to infinity. It doesn’t matter what body I put it on the lens performs the same.

    Nice. I had a look on eBay what those Minolta 400 f2s are worth out of curiosity, and holy crap, not in my budget at close to aus$1000. Not worth complaining about adapter prices at that end of the market. I've experimented with a few vintage lenses, one of my favourites is the Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM, it produces beautiful images in a compact lens that looks beautiful too. I have a few faves in other focal lengths too for portraits.

I wish all Fuji cameras had the same focus view as the XT2 where you have the view of the scene and a small focusing square in the viewfinder where your focus point is. For me, it's the best focusing aid to use with manual focus lenses. The X-pro 3 is on my to get list but for now I'm more than happy with the results of my X-T2. Nice review.

  • @richardhale9664
    @richardhale96645 ай бұрын

    I got into adapted RF lenses on my Fujifilm cameras for two reasons. Firstly, I already had a Minolta CLE with that 40mm lens. The lens deserved to be used so I had to try it out on my X-E3 I had at the time. You're quite correct it is a wonderful lens, but I find it a little too long for my taste much of the time. Secondly, I am a huge fan of the 40-45mm FOV and the only lens at the time which fit the bill for my Fuji cameras was the original 27mm pancake, which I do like on the X-E and X-Tx0 bodies but seems lost on the X-T1,2 etc bodies, and I miss the aperture ring and I like manual focusing. So, I took the wallet destroying decision (for me at least) to get a Voigtlander VM 28mm f2 vintage line lens for use on my X-T1. Fortunately I could justify the expense a little as I could also use it on my CLE and Voigtlander Bessa T cameras. I have to say it was worth the expense. The lens is exquisite in IQ, build and handling. I have no desire to purchase the new 27mm from Voigtlander because of this lens. If it had been available at the time I might have been tempted by their 28mm f2.8 version (for a few less quid) but on the whole and all things considered I made the right choice. I have since acquired 35mm and 50mm f2.5 Color Skopar ( which are delightfully small and compact) and L39 mount 50mm f1.5 Nokton lenses. All of them are a joy to use. The only downside apart from expense is the relatively far minimum focusing distance when compared to dedicated XF mount lenses. This can be overcome with an adaptor with an in-built focusing helicoid but they are quite ugly and a bit heavier. One can argue with some justification that it makes more sense to buy cheap MF Chinese glass, but you will not get the same degree of pleasure in user experience and as long as you look after your lenses, these RF ones should maintain or go up in value over time. Then consider that these lenses can be used on ANY mirrorless system, so are future proof regarding any camera purchases down the line. I have a number of M to FX adaptors and I prefer the Urth ones, as they are the most discreet that I have found to date.

    X-Pro Monochrome!!! That would be a street photographers dream.... I have the X-Pro 1 and xe2. I love using my 35mm and 50mm Summicrons and I absolutly LOVE the 21mm color skopar... Zone focus is the way to go. The focus tab on Leica lenses also gives you a good idea of the distance. 4 o'clock (close), 6 o'clock (med) and 8'ocklock being infinity...

    @@DeeRosa Fair enough but since they only see luminance and do not have any other filters on over the sensor, they are sharper and naturally faster iso sensitivity. Also, since your can add color filters, they more closely have a film feel to the camera operation. The X-Pro line with the optical sensor lends itself to that end.

    I have 2 X-Pro3 cameras (one standard black and one Dura silver). I have a set of light-weight primes that I use on them. I have some of Fujifilm’s, larger, lenses, and zooms, but I don’t use those on the X-Pro3. I also have the Fujifilm M Mount Adapter and a set of 4 Voightlander M mount primes. I have other cameras that will come and go. Currently, a Nikon D810, and the Fujifilm X-T5. But I will take my X-Pro3 to the grave with me. I like it better than a Leica (pun intended).

    Why do you think that the focal length "adjusts the warp" in .jpg? I think that is not correct - how would the camera know distortion characteristics of any adapted lens? Each lens of the same focal lens can have different distortion (as well as none). Apart from the metadata, setting the focal length in camera allows for proper functioning of IBIS, in cameras that have it.

  • @DeeRosa

    I like the look and appreciate xoir taste for the look of camera and lense, but I don't get that swearing... sorry. You mean you just want to use it at daylighttime and make sharp images most of the time? Cause the best handeling won't enable you to use it at nighttime or get separation (exept you hold the camera right im peoples faces...). If you shoot at nighttime, you should know that you need a tripod with low shutterspeed and every motion will get blurred or you put your ISO to 6400 (i tested it) underexpose by 3 stops and still have to manage 1/60 of a second, which would be the shuttertime to not get any handshake or motionblur. Than youbhave to lighten the photo in post and get a lot of noise or crank up the ISO higher than 6400 whicj looks noisy too. No front, but it's not only about the handeling, the specs do matter in my opinion. Of course with an f4 you cand shoot from morning to evening, but in a lot of scenarios you won't be able to get background seperation. For me a f4 would be much of a compromise...
