For 15+ years I used a 6x7 film camera and shot landscape scenes which I sold hundreds of as large mounted/matted/framed prints averaging around 2'x3', but ranging up to 12' wide. I loved the smoothness and resolution. When I didn't have the opportunity to continue selling these large prints I switched to a Nikon full frame kit. I still sell some prints but now they're more in the 20"x30" niche. If you haven't experienced working with scanned medium format chromes (up to 400 mb) you can't imagine the difference from single shot full frame files. If I were suddenly able to afford a full GFX kit I would jump at the chance, even though FX systems and all the lenses can be more affordable and convenient to use. You never completely recover from the exhilaration of such dramatic resolution, and with the latitude available with the GFX files and today's software, it would be enormously satisfying to work big again.

I love my GFX... and today I bought the 23 and the 250... Time to go to bed, as I want to be in a nice location before sunrise...! For me, with th GFX it's not a question of being the best...it just handles how I like, has the features that I like and works the way I like...and the final results have the look I wanted and like! Excellent review, Thanks!

I got a chance to use one with the Fuji 110mm lens & couldn't believe how stunning the files looked when I got home & uploaded the files on the computer. The fall off was absolutely gorgeous & I just keep zooming in & in on the parts of the image that was in focus & couldn't believe the quality. I'm sure allot of it was because of the lens but damn I wish I hadn't tried it because now I can't get it out of my head.

This is the best GFX review I have seen in over 50 so far... great job! I was intrigued by your bokeh comparison of the XF35mm f/1.4 and the GFX63mm but given the middling performance of the GFX 63mm I have to wonder if the differences would be more pronounced with the GFX 110 and XF56mm. Maybe not but have to wonder... :)

I purchased the Fuji GFX50s. And I love what it is delivering. What a great too. Especially in combination with the Fuji GF23mm 4.0 lens, it is simply magic. A highly recommended camera. Thumbs up, Fuji. Well done.

Thanks ! for one of the finest reviews of GFX50 with high level sample shots. Especially there have been a shortage of 23mm lens reports and you gave nice samples. I have 32-64 and 63 only, but this review gave me energy to get more lenses. A comparison shot of GFX and X-T2 looked similar with perspective. But we should know that GFX has recorded wider area without trimming. The advantage.

Thanks. The 23mm is a very nice lens for landscape and architecture. I haven't tried the zoom but I heard it's really good too.

Nice and good Value - Even with the small (smallest for Medium Format) sensor the GFX50s is a great camera but doesn't yet compete with the Phase One or Hasselblad H in the Studio. It makes a great Landscape or maybe a fashion camera. And its great that it's supported for tetherin by capture one Now. But I dont see it being the camera for me yet. Maybe the GFX100 will change my mind when its released...

Did you manage to get the WiFi working properly? I find that after six images in 30 seconds sending "normal .jpgs" the system locks up. Normal seems to be the smallest image available as there seems no way to select a smaller image which is what is needed to display on the laptop.

Hi, I never tried this myself with the GFX, but I'm sure it's possible. In the menu, you have the option to turn off the info display so that you have a clean video feed.

Very nice review, I had the chance to test the Fuji GFX at a Fujifilm testing day in France. I was intimidated at first because of the "Medium Format pro" stuff, but I won a Fuji XT2 and it is surprisingly comparable in handling. Of course the GFX is much "slower" but it is intended for studio and product photography. Combined with Fuji lenses it produces stunning images ! Though I would probably never be inclined to buy a Medium Format camera, I agree with you to congratulate Fuji to bring something different to the table, it is too busy to enter in FF competition in my opinion (oversaturated ;) haha ) Nice work Mathieu Gasquet ! Do you intend to review the Lumix GX9 ? I might be interested in it to be my "B cam" and replace my G7. It could be a great combo with my Pana-Leica 15mm f1,7 ! Cheers from Slovakia !

Probably the best reviews of this camera on KZread. Only one last item I would have wanted to know more about and that is manual focusing with MF-only lenses. I’m interested in using this body exclusively with the Canon TSE 24 II lens, so am very interested to know how MF works with the cam’s software and settings.

No, there is no internal stabilisation on this model. You need to look for the GFX100 or GFX100s.

Great job with the review, once again. My interest in the medium format cameras died when I saw that the fastest lens they have is a f/2. Which by all means, is a 1.8 full-frame equivalent. And also, the format is still too young to compete in low-light with the likes of Sony or Nikon, which have had years to re-iterate on the lowlight capabilities of their high-megapixel sensors. A very nice camera indeed, but still too limited to be of use to a more broad user base.

Can you use this with an external recorder (like the atomos) to get higher video resolution and better quality? Full sensor readout for video?

I don’t remember if there is a clean hdmi output but I doubt the quality would improve (certainly no full pixel readout).
