The Sony A6400 is IMO the better solution for Wildlife - Action - Sport. And this is because of the superior Autofocus tracking of the Sony A6400. And also the lens selection is better for this application, the Sony 200-600mm I am using right simply rocks on the Sony A6400 bringing you to 900mm FOV at f/6.3. So together with a Sony A9 you get the best combo for Wildlife - Action - Sport - IMO. Fuji has nothing like this to offer. It is a decision on the ECO system you have to make.

The overheating issues of Fujifilm cameras are such a problem for me. The short video cut-off is also a real concern . The appearance of the Fuji is gorgeous, but I can't buy a camera based on that! It's 2021 and I wonder if the Sony A6400 is still worth buying. I've been looking at the Fuji X-T4 but again the same problems, overheating, limited video time. Does anyone have any thoughts about this or recommendations or experience with these cameras? Great video btw, you put a mountain of effort put into this.

I want to buy the xt30 instead of a6400 but my mind is telling me not to. But i really miss the fujifilm experience. .. I think the X-Trans are not good performers they lack detail and images appear like paintings when zoomed in. Thank you for your efforts anyway.. Nice comparison. I will say that it would be helpful if you were consistent with which side you put a camera on. This would allow the viewer to focus more on the review instead of taking a second to reorientate from one segment to the other. There are some some other small critiques but I found this to be the most distracting element.

This is the most detailed head to head I've seen and I've seen them all. Very thorough and scientific. Great job! 1. For the color science test was it done in jpeg and what color simulation was used on both cameras? I'm guessing the default standard for Sony and Provia for Fuji. 2. With both camera makers touting their eye autofocus, I'd love to see an eye af test similar to the face af test in the future.

17:38 Honestly, at this point I think the x-trans setup is hurting Fuji more than helping. I with they would dump it can go back to Bayer (like on their original X100, the X-A series and their medium format models). I say this as someone that enjoys Fuji cameras (X-T30 owners and several others before). Also x-trans makes the raw file size larger than bayer files on the disk and of course Lightroom doesn't handle the x-trans files as well and they're slower to load/export. Just dump the x-trans and keep everything else and they'll have an even bigger winner on their hands. 25:44 Absolutely. I kept telling myself I wasn't buying another Fuji camera, but here I am again with another one ;-) (Z7 is my primary though). Also I was really, really surprised and happy with how good the sensor is in the X-T30. I had the a6400 for a week and couldn't get along with it...sent it back and got the X-T30. I am VERY happy with my decision.

@@omar_b_here Yes, for the Sigma APS-C Contemporary line, yet if the ART18-35mmF1.8 + ART50-100mmF1.8 (some say the sharpest aps-c ever) were available they'd be used, and Fuji recently polled some lens options which included very similar lenses. There are also reports that the ART24-35mmF2 and ART85mmF1.4 cover the GFX sensor, and are being used with Kipon adaptors (the Kipon CEO was at the Fuji Summit as a panelist). Fujinon is brilliant glass, but Sigma do spectacularly well for a family-run private corporation.

If you talk about professional use, so you must compare Fuji with Sony A7III, but you must notice that F/2.8 on APS-C is equivalent F/4 on FF and price of lens will be the same! Sony A6400 for beginners, they don't need professional lens for 2000$

But if you cannot record back to back shots for sustained amounts of time without it overheating, that's a problem.

In the portrait test the Sony just edged it by 1 point, but I probably would go for the Fuji if it wasn't for the 10 minute video limit. Although I wouldn't use it a lot, there are times when I may be asked to video something that is a performance of some kind and it would mean losing a second or so as I have to press record again. Also, if it is overheating, it probably wouldn't be very healthy for the camera to continuously record 10 mins after 10 mins, without giving it time to cool.

These days only Fujifilm , Fujifilm, and Fujifilm. I think this company has come in a glorious way to the world of photography. Nice, nice and nice. I am also thinking to own this camera some day because I liked everything in it. Now I have a question. Is this camera completely ( Fujifilm) for the professional. Please, waiting for the answer!!!!

Of course, Fuji still keeping the ISO values higher than other brands, so in these kind of tests it appears to perform better. Next time match the parameters, and compensate for ISO, you will see the Sony for example at 1600 and the fuji close to 2400 to match the same exposure. PS: I have the a6500 and the XT30, so I know what I am talking about.

If you're talking about the portrait comparisons, he discusses that in the video and he already takes that into account. He describes how Fuji underexposes, so he manually adjusted the exposure to get comparable exposures between the two cameras. This discussion happens at 21:32. If you're talking about the other tests, most of them are performed with both cameras set to the same ISO.

Awesome video you make it easy for me to decide which one to buy. Just 1 question: What about in camera time lapse video, do they have this feature? I want a camera that is built in time lapse video. Man thanks for doing this video was awesome and better and precise than a tons out there, already subscribed to your Chanel 👍

One of the most scientific comparisons I've seen so far! I hope both companies are watching this and taking note. Overall I preferred the Fuji colors however half of the time I was like "both images are fine". The CPU is definitely a problem in the Sony for quickly flushing the files, however maybe it was slower on purpose as part of the balance to keep the whole system cool? No idea.

Too bad the Fuji has absolutely no grip. I moved to Sony from Olympus M4/3 four years ago mainly because of the grip. I was really happy with the Olympus otherwise and I still fondly look back at the photos I took with it. I can't control a camera I can't hold!

Hi, nice video. I am planning to buy the X-t30 in nexts weeks but I hace a doubt, My question is: Do you think the the X-t30 body can frecuently support long lenses as you used in the video, maybe Fujinon 55-200 F3.5-4.8 or Fujinon 50-140 F2.8 for sports photography?. I mean, this is for amateur-semiprofessional work, not something so professional but I earn some money shooting sports sometimes. My main work is portraits, street photography but I ask an opinion from you because you used 50-140 mm lens in the test. A lot of people says that thie x-t30 body is so tiny for thoses lens ant It´s not confortable enough because the lens is very big and heavy. Let me know your thougts.

Hard to beat that front facing monitor with unlimited record time if you are doing a lot of video. It was one of them more decisive conclusions from this shootout. With the 10 minute limit on the xt30, I’d even kinda suggest the Xt3 if someone wanted to stay with Fuji for video. That limit really hinders it.

Wow...77% for me on picking XT30 over A6400. Fuji was one I am thinking to go to from Olympus. It would be neat to see what you think of version 3.0 firmware of EM1 because that is one I'm think about upgrading to or G9 but with Fujifilm prices, they are impressive.

Another exceptional video. Thank U Michael. Impressed by Fuji's AF performance. That Q button could be disabled or 2 second to activate with present firmware update, right? 9/13, I preferred Sony color. That's surprise as well, but I didn't like highlight on face, but liked shirt colors from Fuji file. I felt color was more properly presented with Fuji files. Though, it is more important than just color from cameras that how easy it is to get result when manipulating files. If U have Iridient or Capture 1, then Fuji's good otherwise, sony's still a better choice. U can buy f 1.4 lens from Sigma for Sony mount. If you want that bright lens, it's very expensive in Fuji eco system. Surprised by heat generation as well, but 10 min limit is not a big deal to me. So, in the end, I would like to go for Fuji (with swivel LCD panels form Canon cameras).

Q button issues can be resolved by firmware. Fuji’s been listening, so I’m hopeful. There are definitely some nice alternatives on the Sony mount, but most of the nicer zooms are really expensive.

Michael, what a great test. Thank you so much. I took the color science preference test, and out of 13 I preferred the Fuji 11 times---and I was able to guess correctly 11 out of 13. IMO, Sony has a LONG way to go to match Canon, Fuji, and Nikon for skin tones.

Hi, my camera (6400) makes noises (like trying to focus all the time) when on AT - Continuous in video mode. The lens is E 50 mm F1.8 OSS APS-C Standard. I am a beginner and just bought the camera. Can I fix it somehow? Is it a problem with setting? Or is the camera and lens I bought broken? Thanks so much for your tutorials - learning with your Udemy course, course, super helpful.

With your lens price comparison you are comparing apples to oranges though. The Sony versions, although the same f2.8 apertures, were designed for full frame (more glass=more expensive).

Interesting. I choose every picture that I preferred based on the amount of detail on a 43" 4k monitor and it was the Fuji with only one exception which was picture #8 being the Sony. I wonder if it was the lens that made the difference? I was quite surprised by this. Also I am really afraid of the x-trans sensor with it's color limitations when demosaicing causing color bleeding between teeth and lips or maybe the whites of eyes being the same color as the adjacent skin. I definitely give favor to detail and just love it. But in the end I shoot mostly long 4k video so the Fuji is out. In fact, any 30 minute time limit on any camera is out to. That's why I still shoot with the gx85 and G7. I wonder how the 4k footage compares when pixel peeping for detail between the Sony and Fuji? But then again it doesn't matter unless Fuji in the future gives me unlimited 4k recording time.

Consider investing $40 in Iridient X-Transformer. It's a little tool that converts Fuji .RAF files to Adobe .DNG, which you can then import into Lightroom or PS. Adobe's demosaic algorithm for Fuji seems a little behind.
