Hi Jed...have the 50R and the AF looks pretty similar and probably will be like due to the senzor limitations. So this is how it really goes: - Eye AF is more or less useless - you can try that, sometimes its works but its better to have the Eye AF on, than just the Face - Single AF works the best - in your case, you have the issues as you have to choose right AF point size according to the light and contrast situation AF is horrible, camera is the BEST I have ever own as I am the purest one :)

Yeah I totally understand the limitations of the sensor & agree. I wish they put more development into the focus because lots of customers will most likely compare the Sony a7riv or canon r5 due to the price points & that alone will convince the average consumer who dosnt understand what medium format really is all about & who isn’t a purist like yourself! The files are incredible from the camera! If I play with it again I’ll take note of your settings! :)

Thanks for your review mate. If I was reviewing this camera I wouldn't be doing it in a street Photography setting it's never gonna be a straight camera pick yourself up a Fujifilm XT4 or XT5 and go out and shoot street. I know this because I'm a landscape photographer and this camera will be brilliant for my landscape work because I've got time to do composition but as a running gun camera it was never going to be that type of camera. So yeah it can do portraits really well because someone is generally sitting relatively still and you can use the auto focus and it will pretty much nail that

I totally hear what your saying & agree. :) The only thing I’d add is in 2023 I don’t think there’s much excuse for a cameras AF to not be able to grab focus reasonably quick & reliably regardless of sensor size etc. But I’d love to try the new 100 ii in some more subdued environments for sure! :)

@@JedDobre in Australia that camera is $12,000, so let's go rob a bank together and go halves...lol that's getting ridiculous. I don't feel we need 100 megapixel camera anyway I'm in the human I can barely see Beyond 30 megapixels anyway, so the detail that the camera picks up we can't see when we're looking at the image and that's actually fact, the human, I only sees it about 30 megapixels, so yeah here we go again with gear upgrading i....magine 2034 when the GFX 400 S Mark three comes out with 400 megapixels. Oh my gosh...lol

Sounds like a plan! Haha Yeah I always have the thought of will I walk into a thrift store in 20 years and see an a1 or gfx sitting on a shelf for $100! It’s crazy how tech advances!

@@JedDobre I teach Photography and I often go to these thrift shops or op shop as we call them in Australia and find cameras I found a Sony RX100 Mark 2 the other day for 20 bucks that was like a $500 camera. It's 20 megapixels in a thrift shop..ha ha ....LOL

LANDSCAPE .... It's a landscape camera it really is as much as people don't want to admit it. This is a pure landscape camera. Yes you could probably do fashion and portrait work with it but given that it's three frames a second and a very shallow depth of field that's gonna be a challenge in sometimes in those situations. This is a landscape and architecture camera.

It’s true as you think so much more about your shot instead of spraying and praying.. however having certain features can definitely help getting certain styles of shot.. all of which this camera isn’t aimed at anyhow!

What do you normally shoot with?

Sony cameras. Model depends on the day & purpose of shoot but can be any of A7Riv/A7Siii/A1/A7iv

May I ask what camera/ lens you use to record yourself in this video?

It was a combo of the 16-35 GM & the 24mm GM on the A7Siii 👌🏽

It's medium format so fast focus is not the point.

I understand that.. You do start to expect it to get focus much quicker then it does however. For a camera of this price made for studio work to struggle that bad isn’t a great selling point! Good camera suited to certain people & more or less people shooting still subjects & probably manual focus! :)
