At the end of the day, you use any weapon you can find to survive, but hope fully this video helps out new players to shift them towards better builds and infuriates long time players for have x ranked 2 whole spots above y. -- Watch live at / crowrevell

    I once devastated the flagship with fire bombs and no hacking on hard mode. Straight up threw one in the medbay in phase 2 while my other weapons hit the shields + mind control 3 to turn the pilot into a mass murderer. They were so preoccupied with the shields and the pilot they didn't put the fire out in the medbay, so they couldn't heal. I started setting fires everywhere until they had only 3 crew left for phase 3, at which point they sent one wave of guys at me and then their lone intern had to put out every fire himself while mind controlled, so the top half of the flagship was on fire, and the only thing that could hit me was the power surge. What a great game. The funniest shit about hard mode is the missile room and laser room are connected to the main body of the ship, which means fires can spread to them and from them, which I think gives fire bombs some nice value if you get a raging inferno going in their shield room.

    About the fire beam/bomb. I just had a streak where I played rock b to get the crystal ship and ancestry achievement (not in advanced edition) and let me tell you, when you get a teleporter and still have the fire bomb (or swapped it for a fire beam) you feel like a god. Oh, you have shields? Let me start a fire there and send my rocks in. Retreating to medbay? Well looks like your shields burned up and my fire beam just went off cooldown, Good luck ;). And on the flagship, your rocks can last long enough in medbay for it to fully burn. And by that point most of them will be low enough health to not be able to put out the fire. So from there you can just kill off all but one of the crew. And have an easier fight. Although I haven’t been able to do it on hard mode/AE so it’s most likely different their.

    Rewatching this, "Apparently (Repair Bomb) used to repair Zoltan Shields" is one of the funniest things I've ever heard about ftl

    Burst Laser II is my fav weapons. If you ever get two of those bad boys in a run, you are set.

    I absolutely love the Fire Beam. It completely occupies an enemy crew with just one swoop and start a ton of fires to damage and keep systems down. It's a fun weapon. But I only keep it longer on 4 slot ships or when I already have a really good shield/hull damage setup.

    I think, with hacking, firebeam goes way up in value, because it can wreck a ship with a single swipe (even rocks/engi) But the 20 second to fire, only 80% chance per tile to set a fire, and no damage off the bat means you kind of need a lot going for your already. But yeah, 3 vs 4 weapons slots is like "everything" in weapons assessment (that and having hacking). 4 burst 1 vs 3. or just throwing some crew kill weapon in slot 4 to use situationally.

    Just had a funny run with the Fed A - 2x Burst Laser 2s, Fire Beam and Fire Bomb, 2x auto reloaders and picked up pre igniter in one of the last sectors. Boarding crew sat patiently waiting till the enemy was nice and crispy for most of the run. Only 6 shots but devastating against flagship regardless. Burn the world down! Only realized I left the lvl4 artillery beam depowered the whole time after 2nd stage 😅

    All the missiles take a big hit because you have a 100% chance of facing a defense drone on the flagship.

    ​@@metalgearsolidsnake6978Yeah, and phase 2 is usually the bad one where runs go to die if you don't have a ship designed to handle it. The last thing you want is to realize you've been carried by a missile all game long and now you literally can't damage the flagship without it, and if you beat it just fine while having the missile, then you didn't really need it and you could use any other weapon that doesn't cost a resource to fire. You can't depend on missiles for that reason alone. Hacking you can because of a neat trick that lets you bypass the defense drone. That's why hacking is op. It's basically a missile but better in every way.

    I'm a big fan of the Artemis Missile. All three ships that have it have 4 weapon slots. And It's 1 power requirement makes it easy to slot in to whatever your current weapon loadout is at any stage of the game when you don't yet have the money to bring your most awesome weapons online. That low cost also allows keeping it on standby as one of your four options. If your weapon system gets totally nailed early in a fight, you can pivot your strategy to turning on the Artemis and hopefully turn around that situation cleaner than if you had waited for repairs. It's a sort of safety net that I don't think you get out of other missiles and bombs, or other 1 Power weapons. It's also pretty handy on phases 1 and 3 of flagship if you want to just keep individual weapons from ever firing.

    Ion bomb would be great as a support weapon if it were faster. 4 ion damage will guaranteed strip 2 shield layers on the spot, and that's good enough as a general 1 power weapon option...if that were in the 12-15s range, it would be used just to get first volley through (and probably 2nd w/o using another missile, since it's 20s to clear the ion damage and most good weapons are faster where that's enough even with their travel time factored). Instead, it's so slow that it's more or less unusable. At 15s or less, I'd move it all the way up to good, but as it is in the game you put it where I'd put it. Ions in general are perfectly serviceable if you have a lot, but it's rough to actually have that come up as a practical build. When using them with other weapons, they're a lot more hit or miss. Getting a hit into enemy weapons after damage is useful, but hard to time in some builds. Charge is one that can work with non-ion weapons at reasonable power cost, and for non-modded FTL is the main reasonable ion weapon to use generally. Chain ion gets a special mention as the rare weapon that's obviously worse than vulcan (which you're overrating despite calling weak!), impressive in one sense of the word. Overall, I'd place the ion weapons exactly as you have them lol.

    Great list, can’t disagree with any of your placements aside from minor nitpicks - mainly I think you undervalue ion weapons somewhat.

    Halberd should be Top tier. It's on par with BLII and Flak I.

    I go over my reasoning in the video, but undeniable that halberd + hacking is generally game winning offense.

    Seems on point for me. Is the Heavy Crystal 2 really that bad? Sure it's worse than Heavy 2 or Hull 2, but it seems like it could do a reasonable impression if you have nothing else. 4 damage and breach kinda deletes a system. I don't have any experience with it though, so I'll take your word for it. Edit: You know what just after commenting I remembered that it gets shot down by Defense Drones. I agree now, it's trash.

    there is the defense drone aspect. but it's like 3 power and 19 seconds for 1 shot. yeah it goes through a single shield but like, i'd much rather have a heavy 2 at 13 seconds. Also, it's pretty rare, since you have to go crystal sector to even try and get it.

    @@crowrevell2082 Yeah, but I still think one could make it work (even if very much still in the bad category) without the Defense Drone thing. It would be a similar build around to a heavy 2, just much slower and less reliable. One could make it work and use it if it came to it. The defense drone vulnerability makes it unusable though. A buildaround slow high power use weapon that gets completely shut down by a single defense drone? That's not workable, it definitely deserves its spot.

    They don't deal damage and take time and accuracy to be effective. Ships with cloaking and/or high evasion make it tough to stack ions. doing alpha strikes to take down weapons and effectively win in that moment is superior to stacking ions over a series of volleys to crack high level shields. Damaging multiple systems is also important to slow repairs or enemy's running away. While ions are often neglected for their ability to disrupt weapons, they have to many limitations to be as consistently effective as the weapons i have listed above them.

    Ракетница "Рой" должна быть намного выше в этом списке. Возможность быстро ударить боеголовкой по вражескому оружейному отсеку очень помогает во многих ситуациях. Накопительные бластеры полный мусор, но это наверное из-за того, что они не сочетаются с моим стилем игры. Флак 2 как по мне тоже заслуживает большего (я любитель хламомётов). Ионное оружие хорошо, если наводить его на кислородный отсек, тем самым убивая вражескую команду

    Swarm Missiles can be great to hit weapons, but they are less likely to hit. Flak 2 is probably a weapon that could be used more by others.

    You are mistaken about how long it takes to get Vulcan online. By sector 2 it’s the only weapon you need for 6 sectors.

    i mean it take a while for it's sustain fire to go fast enough to get through enemy shields, and if your weapons are hit, it goes offline, requiring "charging" it up again - during which time the player is still under attack. it gives way to many free volleys to enemies before being effective.

    I agree - it’s a weak weapon if they take out your weapons. But every other weapon requires a combination of weapons. You can beat almost every ship in the game with Vulcan plus whatever other weapon you start with. Once you have it you can build pure defense. Charge time 35 seconds = ) @@crowrevell2082

    That could very well be. Never played multiverse. I'm actually more positive of ions than most, and it's worth knowing how to make builds around them.

    Multiverse has overall different weapon balance because weapon system upgrades cost a lot more, but some weapons are disgustingly overpowered (and you have to defeat enemies who use them on you to unlock them). A lot of weapons cost 1 power less than before, and some new ones cost nothing but require another powered weapon. There's also stuff like the Fire Ion, which sets fire to a room if it hits directly, making it good at both suppressing shields and causing total chaos in the shield room when other weapons get through. Anti Bio weapons become a class of their own called Radiation weapons, which apply a debuff on top of damaging crew heavily. It's hilarious fun, but it's overwhelming at first. Also, certain weapons can only be purchased from certain stores.

    I mean, they are. i put them into those categories but that's were i would rank them. Not weapons are the least useful and I'm not much of a fan of crew killing weapons due to their limited function.

    Id say what determines how good a weapon is is how versatile it is. If its only specialized for crewkilling its just worse overall.
