In my opinion... autofire wil ruin your battle and make it really hard to win. Because you cant control your weapons. Its better to shoot where you want to shoot

I don't think this is true for things like the Osprey or engi A ships, they don't require much timing in early game and it'll just save you the effort of targeting every time, or even delaying damage because your weapon fully charged without you targeting it. You can still control your weapons, it's not that hard to time even with autofire on, because your weapons only fire if you have something targeted, so you can just untarget them and then fire them all at once in pause.

@John It’s a rpg game .What do you expect?You can go and play online fps games if you want games that are challenging

Here's a handy tip that the game never really tells you about. If you hold Ctrl while aiming a weapon, you can set that individual weapon to autofire. This is a lot more helpful than the actual autofire button which (if I remember correctly) forces you to autofire all weapons. It's great when you, say, want to autofire an ion weapon to keep pressure on shields, but don't want to autofire a missile weapon since they're a limited resource.

@@thomaskessler7114 When you hover over the autofire button, it does say it does the opposite if you hold control when firing.

23:00 i mean, that drone doesnt have sensors so it couldnt possibly know which rooms are empty and which have systems

HOLY SMOKE! You're playing FTL. Man I remember playing this all night long trying to unlock every ship and constantly dying to stupid decisions. Good luck Pravus though your journey in this wonderful game .

Ignored that game for years pretty much, but I have to admit it looks fun!

"Well The good news is the fire guys are invincible to fire" absolutely brilliant

Engines are sooo underrated by most players. Unlike shields, engines help against EVERY weapon (except for beams!). You also get a LOT more bang for your buck... at early levels especially. For 5 less scrap than the cost of a second shield, you can increase your evasion from 1 in 10 to 1 in 5, halving the average hull damage you take per battle (not counting beams, which wont bypass 1 shield in the early game anyways). Not only that, but pilot/engine crew BOTH get experience when, and only when, the ship successfully dodges. So upgrading engines upgrades the rate at which your two primary crew gain experience, which in turn improves your dodge chances.

I-... that's not how math works 1 in 10 to 1 in 5 is an 11% decrease in damage. getting 2 shields early is way more valuable. missiles aren't all that common and against lasers, you'll take 50% less damage against 3 shot and 100% less against 2 shot. and against beam, you'll take a lot less damage against 2 damage and 1 damage is very unlikely to get through. in addition, getting 2 shields lets you farm evasion XP very reliable in the first sector.

Loved this game! gonna pick this up myself after seeing you play pravus.

You're seriously one of my favorite strategy game players, I strongly urge you to keep this play through going!!

I've been going back and watching a lot of your older series and this happened to randomly play because its new and I was sincerely bummed out to find that this is only the first episode, can't wait fo some mo :D

A good roguelike is the definition of "just 1 more try"

heres a tip for low oxygen open all doors surrounding the empty room or just hit x then z wait a second and hit x again, this will quickly re pressurize the room and make it faster for crew to repair/take less damage

Hey there, I've palyed this game long time ago and if I rememnber you can press R when a weapon is selected to fix the target, that means that the weapon wuold fire in the room you'he selected automaticly. Upgrade the weapon room. Keep open the rooms on the edge, it keeps the room immune to fire and if enemys teletrasports into your shit thare is a nice chance that they will teleport into that rooms. Sorry for my english. Sometimes it's better to hit engine or control room do you can hit easily the enemy ship.

One of my favorite child hood games! Just so you know, you can dabble in modding. You can create your own ships and such, it’s really cool

My tip for ya would be FARM UP THE SKILLS when you have a puny ship that has literally no chance of beating you Autofire helps too but i recommend against it unlessssssss you know what you're doing Pausing a lot helps a crap ton Get a teleporter and a boarding crew ASAP because taking down the crew instead of the whole ship nets higher scrap long run, and makes it so that RNG will be able to bless you with some weapons/slaves if its a slave trader PRAISE PRAVUS

Protip: When you switch off oxygen press z to open all doors (excluding airlocks), this makes the oxygen drain slower.

Ah, FTL, I could write Novels of the shenanigans I put my crew through. :D Some Tips: - You can open all your (inner) doors at once. This allows you to equalize the percentage of oxygen in all your rooms after you fixed your hull breaches or extinguished all fire... or if you had vented the oxygen out of the room to suffocate these nasty, nasty boarders. ;) - General rule: Destroy the shields first, especially if they have more than one layer or if you have few projectile weapons to punch through. Enemies can't block their weaponry from being damages if their shields are indisposed after all. ;) - Turn Autofire on! It helps a lot. :D Edit: Never thought about going afk against an enemy that can'T do anything against you though. marvelous. :D

Another tip: Discretion is the better part of valor. Once you get to the later sectors, engaging in a fight you don't have to can become a significant danger to your overall mission.

Some improvements, opening multiple airlocks will fasten the suction of o2 for all rooms exposed to it. The first encounter is quite nightmarish. It's akin to 2shield bubble ship on sector 1

Pravus with the cheese... I approve! And he got a best beam to boot... now if only he found a pair of flak cannons he'd be able to kill literally everything.

Well. I wasn't expecting this. LOVE THIS GAME. Also, note to self, never play FTL while watching an FTL video. Made me paranoid I was being shot at 2 seconds in a fight, WAY too early lol

The osprey has a very . . . Interesting design.

When navigating with the long range sensors, the triangle dictates whether there will be anything there (i.e avoid no triangle systems) and a little orange circle dictates whether there is a hazard in the system: Solar flares/Asteroids.

you can detect an hull breach when in a nebula or when your scanners are down by looking at the oxigen meter. if it goes down there is a hole.

You shold totally install the Captain's edition mod, I think it also merges with unlockable ships preety well. It does change alot, so maybe get a little exp. first since it is also harder.

Generally you want to reach the final sector with green health or at least yellow. Otherwise flee from all combats up to the flagship, just power down your weapons and divert everything to thrusters/shields
