FSX Tutorial: Jet Aircraft

Ойындар

This time round, we're going to learn about turbofan engines and see the basics of how they're built and how they work. I'll also explain some of the jet engine instrument dials so you can make sense of all those numbers in the cockpit!

I still can't understand ANYTHING about engines. It's not your fault, I just don't understand mechanical stuff too much

According to my understanding, this is about right for a bypass turbofan engine: 1) Air, compressed by the APU, turns a jet engine's N2 or core stage (= high+low pressure compressor and turbine blades) 2) Fuel starts to flow into the combustion chamber, when the pilot flicks the fuel control valve switch open 3) The burning fuel increases the air pressure inside the engine. The combustion chamber sits before the turbine blades, to provide the turbine with high pressure airflow. 4) The LP compressor and LP turbine are mechanically connected with an axle, the same is for HP compressor and HP turbine. The fan is connected to the low pressure axle, so the LP compressor and turbine blades' speed = fan's speed. The fan creates an airflow in the core stage, so the APU can be shut off. The APU/auxiliary power unit is also a jet engine, but it is small enough to be started with an electric motor or some other method.
