red/green nav lights are oriented forward sweeping 110 degrees to the left or right so they would not be visible from the rear. you would only see red/green if the plane were oriented directly at you. if the plane were infront of you going in the same direction you are all you should see is the white rear nav light. which has a 140 degree spread.
This is the most amazing straight forward video I have watched. Thank you so much
Finally! A video that has a brief explanation on what lights to use when

All lights on an aircraft have an aviation purpose. The logo lights help illuminate the logo and help controllers and other aircraft with identification at night. For example ground controllers can distinguish between an easyjet or British Airways A319 by looking at the tail.
The easiest way to remember the position lights is Red Right Return. If you see the red light on the right then the other plane or boat is returning towards you. White is always on the back. Also, The taxi lights on a small Cessna are not on the landing gear. They will usually be right next to the landing light. They can be in the wing as shown or under the prop on the cowl. Hope this helps.

Love it. Red Right Return. Great phrase. Thanks.
Thanks, the most exhaustive guide to lights in the 172 !!!
Wish I had your vids when I went to ground school. Thank you!
thanks for the important corse of the liht ,you are a good proffessor.nice fliht ...
Awesome video!
Easy way to learn Port as Left is that they both have the same amount of characters/letters in them.
Great Video. But you get the part with the navigation lights wrong. There are 3 nav lights on any airplane. Red on the port side, green on the starboard side and a white tail light. These lights illuminate a 120 degree arc with a bit of overlap. Directly from behind, you should only be able to see the white tail light, not the green and red ones. These lighting rules come from ships, but on ships the angles are a bit different. That's what I learned while on training as an aircraft mechanic.
Thanks bro! Nice explanation
I really enjoy your videos and i see them very helpfull 😃

So when do we use navigation lights? At night or during flight or in both flight and taxi or all the time?
I thought the logo lights helped the ground controller quickly distinguish between different airlines in the dark?

Diamond Cubez Good shout! Most of the answers I found explained that they were mostly for marketing but you're right, they have that benefit too. The thing is at a busy airport like Heathrow in London, you could easily have 10 British Airways planes lined up together in the dark, but at an airport as busy as that, I think ATC have a radar system where they can track planes on the ground similar to how they would track planes in the sky.
Hello. Did u do any video that u switch on the light during your fight? I mean put these theory in action. Thanks!

+King Lim Pang Yeah, you'll see me use lights in some of my VFR and IFR flight videos.
I left my wife because she became portly. That is how I remember port is left
Good explanation except you didn't mention the white light on the tail, ie, red left, green, right, white tail.

Art Wright did you not see the end? He said he didn't know, also at the beginning, he clearly mentioned that those other lights aren't on the Cessna.
why are cabin lights dimmed on takeoff and landing?
@DaGrumpyTaco

To be able to spot fires easier
Do you suggest using landing lights on takeoff as well?
@Doofer911

Yes. A lot of pilots at the PPL level use the landing light for Takeoffs and landings.
Have u set dx10 in settings?. I have a problem with taxi and land light in fsx.se. if i dont set dx10 doesn't good effects, flare above wing Set dx10 not beacon light

I don't think I have, I remember reading a long time ago that DX10 was causing issues with FSX so it may be worth looking at some flight sim forums to see if anyone else has had problems with DX10 and lights.

I'm having the same problem as well with my taxi lights
I'm using your video for real life flying! I won't crash because I know everything... JK lol
Is it not the case that the green light is not visible from behind?

Doofer911 Well, you lucky man. 'Cause I burnt mine.....
I was always taught "There's no red port left".
If the lights don't work it might not be dark enough
