Several years ago, Monogram released a Pro Modeller series of tools that included a plastic container housing a piece of foam for decals. This was an absolute game changer for me. You could place an entire Micro Scale or Super Scale decal sheet on the foam and pick off the decals as you were ready for them. I currently use the leftover packaging for Eduard Brassin parts as I prefer to work on a few decals at a time, vice an entire sheet. Filled properly, the decals can sit on the damp foam for quite some time without floating off of the backing paper.

Great idea, you can snip off the few that need to be applied individually and use the foam box for the bulk of the markings that go on at once.

I think it would be interesting to ask modellers what questions they answer in regards to new / young modellers who are just starting out. It may seem kind of basic topics but to the new crowd of modellers would be a great help to those starting out in the hobby. It just a thought as I watch this episode. Great to see you guys at heritage con in Hamilton. Cheers.

Hey FSM, heres a question concerning decals. Any of you have experience with the new MiniArt decals that have the removable carrier flim??? I have a couple of miniarrs F4F wildcat and one of the Mig-15 kits on the shelf, the wildcat kit i plan to build later this year. Anyway Ive heard about these new decals but have no experience with them, was wondering if FSM could share with us viewers a how to video and/or tips when dealing them. Thanks for this weeks video

Just want say that since my reentry back into modeling. I have noticed a disturbing trend to over weather kits. Edges that look like they are worn are realistic, as these vehicles/armor are home to the crew that man them. So the utmost care is taken of them. If it looks like it's been submerged in a river for a hundred years ot just not real world. Dirt and mud happen but not to the extreme. Don't get me wrong some of these models look great but aren't real world. So the newer people to this Hobby think you have to rust and chip something to the extreme. Looking at my research library on the Second World War, I find example after example of vehicles in combat and it is very hard to find even a few of the exa.ples you publish. I have a copy of the book Charging Knights of the Eastern Front and the pictures of that battalions vehicles are in the middle of combat and look like they just came off the assembly line. So more articles on basic weathering would help a lot. Less of the articles on extreme weathering are actually detrimental. detrimental detrimental

I understand your viewpoint completely. While I appreciate the work that is put into the weathering, it really comes down to the preferences of the modeler. A former modeler in my area would say that he knew what mud looked like, but wanted a representation of a vehicle. When I do add some weathering, I do my best to find reference photos of what the real item looked like in service.
