    I was having all sorts of issues. I flew between different airports, but was landing at Liverpool, which still has ILS. I watched another vid where they were talking about LOC radio signals and that was a bit above my head for now, and I couldn't find the LOC frequency info for ILS 27 at Liverpool. Anyway, long story short, I messed up my landing and ended up kersplatting because of low airspeed. So I tried it again with just setting the destination airport and putting the origin in-flight a short distance off. Came around to the first approach marker and everything was going fine. However, I just started circling as the nav changed from GPS to LOC1, which as I said previously, I hadn't set because I couldn't find the frequency... Anyway... after circling aimlessly a couple of times I figured I would just pop the AP on Approach Mode and Bobs ya Aunties live in lover... it seemed to do the trick. The glide slope and direction all the way down to the ground were controlled by AP, all I had to manage was the airspeed (Given my reason for attempting this second go, not the best move maybe). Anyway I waffle *cough*... the Approach Mode in the AP seemed to do the trick for me on the dreaded heXbox version. And as a Brucie Bonus... the achievement popped :D

    Yet again a really clear video 👍. I'm not sure why you disabled the AP so early and why you ignored the glide slope & papi lights at the end?

  • @Huddison

    @Huddison

    2 жыл бұрын

    My preference is to hand fly aircraft like the Cessna and only use Autopilot if/when absolutely necessary, so if I have a runway in sight, I typically disable autopilot (if I'm using it at all ;). I tried to make this video accessible to people with varying degrees of flight simulation experience - so I was trying portray that getting the aircraft on the runway safely, is the most important thing to begin with - Papi lights and the Glide Slope are more advanced features, which I've covered in other videos :)

    Thanks for the presentation. I have a question, you should not put the ils frequency in nav 1 which by the way I do not know in the msfs 2020 where can you find it. (in fsx has a map in the program with all the airport information) and before you arrived at the airport you pressed the app. buton leading automatically to the runway.(vertical olso) To find these ils and com. frequencies you need to have navigraf or geppesen charts?

  • @Huddison

    @Huddison

    I didn't manually enter any frequencies in this flight. The NXI G1000 mod mixes things up a little bit (both good and bad); I'll get around to releasing a video on that.

  • @Huddison

    @Huddison

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you Google the approach chart for your destination airport/runway, it should tell you what height you should be at (minimum) to pick up the Glide Slope. From what I've leeched from research: the ILS has a maximum range of about 25-30 miles (heading towards your destined runway).

    I learnt a lot from your video. As I can infer from your landing at Heathrow, it is important to keep your plane horizontal and make sure you lose altitude via the throttle. When do you set the flaps to 10%? Is this at the start of the descent or when the speed indicator is in the white part?

  • @Huddison

    Yes 'load' the approach rather than activating it - activating the approach will remove anything else you may have set up in the route; loading it, loads it into your existing route.

    Hello russkay, i hope I can help. I fly a Garmin 5000 equipped aircraft for a living and here is how it works in real life. When the AutoPilot disconnects for any reason, including you doing it intentionally , the red "AP" will begin flashing (and, at least on the Garmin 5000, it will continuously announce "AutoPIlot" "AutoPilot" "AutoPilot".......) to get your attention. To get it to stop flashing, and to get "her" to stop announcing "AutoPilot..." you would simply press the AutoPIlot disconnect button (red button on yoke) to acknowledge it. It should then stop flashing and announcing. I'm assuming the Garmin 1000 is similar. As far as MSFS, I'm assuming it works the same. Try pressing the red AutoPIlot disconnect button on the yoke to get it to stop flashing. You could probably even map/assign that feature to a button on your keyboard/gamepad/HOTAS setup. If not, you will just have to ignore the flashing light in the sim....although in real life you would generally not want to ignore anything that is flashing. I hope that helps

    Excellent video Huddison! On the World Map page, you can choose ILS Arrivals to "Automatic". In that case, we would program our ILS approach once ATC gives us a landing runway, correct? Because when setting up the flight plan on the World Map, we have the option to immediately choose our runway, but, it wouldn't be entirely realistic, as we wouldn't know the active runway for landing, correct? (Sorry, its a rather complicated question perhaps..😅) What i mean is, we should apply your method here ONCE we recieve from ATC our assigned runway, rather than pre-planning our choice of landing- does that make sense?

  • @Huddison

    @Huddison

    3 жыл бұрын

    I've not looked into the Automatic ILS Arrivals on the World Map; i'll perhaps look into making a video about that. Generally, if you choose a runway to land on in the World Map, the ATC in the Sim will vector you onto it; setting an ILS part way through the flight, shouldn't affect this, but I may be wrong, as I normally don't use atc in my flights nowadays.

    Thanks for that but I guess I must have missed something... I don't understand why you didn't allow the autopilot to handle the GS . In addition, I saw that you did "Load" the approach plan but you never "activated" it when the time came. Perhaps you did that and forgot to mention it? Anyway, I was trying to get my memory working because I used to know how to do an ILS landing, which included the AP GS approach. But I haven't done one in so long that I needed a refresher course. Had you allowed the AP to handle the entire approach (including the GS), you would typically disengage the AP at about 200 feet AGL. If you don't, it would disengage around then anyway. The speed of the aircraft is still controlled by the pilot, but the approach using the AP gives you a lot less to worry about, (or at least less to fidget with). Thanks again for the video. Rich
