The Federal Signal 508 is a cool siren, but the older Civil Defense sirens will always live on in my heart, including this 2T22. It did its job for 57 years. I hope that this 508 will be put to good use in tests. Many of these sirens in my area (in many local fire departments in New York State) were installed sometime in the early 1960's for not only Civil Defense but for volunteer fire department use. I hope that this 2T22 gets restored and its intake(s) fixed for the next town or fire department.

I fully agree! Nothing replaces the awesome sound of dual tone sirens.

Sad to see the old workhorse go, but at least they picked a good replacement!

Actually the 2001-130 is a better replacement, may not be as loud but carries farther with the projector horn it uses. The 508 is only loud from up close.

Nooo i hope he will rest in peace😭 but the other boy will replacing this old boy.. RIP

I love older sirens, but if they would of kept it longer, it would just give up and fail and fail. 508s are much newer and can last more 50+ years. Then if it gets too old, it will happen again. It’s the life cycle, friends, Like old things? Go work at a Museum.

whoa, this is the first time I've seen a video about a town I live in

I never knew that the 2T22 was installed in 1964. It sure had its excellent operational run covering the city of La Crosse, WI, for 57 years. The 508 is still a good replacement for the 2T22, but the older CD-era sirens will always be the best sirens ever made during the Cold War era.

R.I.P 2T22. The 508 was a reasonable replacement, though. The 2T22 was aging and didn't have battery backup. The new 508, however, has battery backup and is way less outdated, even if the 508-128 is not a very good siren in general. A pro of the 508 over the 2T22 is when the AC power cuts out during a storm, it will still be sounding, warning people until the batteries die, or the siren gets killed by the storm.

Keeping and upgrading the siren is better than taking them away

I believe it’s with the company that removed the siren, that company is ECS. (Emergency Communication Systems).

What do they do with sirens after they're replaced? A Federal Signal 2001 SRN replaced a Thunderbolt siren model close near me last April, there's a 2001 DC model, the new SRN model and one perfect and healthy condition thunderbolt 1000T is left in the town. I'm just curious on what exactly happens to sirens after they end up getting replaced? I've seen the graveyards, do they all go there? Or do some of them get scrapped? How long do sirens usually stay in graveyards?

This removal company has put some of the sirens they have removed on eBay, but they have not been doing that recently. Some people think that it’s going to be scrapped. As far as it know, there are no siren graveyards around here.

In some cases also sirens from La Crosse have been removed but then placed at the city shop, and there were public auctions to sell them. In this case, the removal company took the 2T22 with them.

P-50s aren't made anymore and there's only 1 company I know of that refurbishes those, and that's Fulton. 2001s are good sirens, but they won't carry as far as the 508 that replaced this 2T22. 128dB@100ft is still very loud.

The replacement seemed fast from the video, though we were there from 2 PM and by the time we left it was around 6:30. The fire alarm was a false alarm at a hoist across the street.

@@WilliamNealyMusic well if you share with them that your a siren collector and show pictures to prove it they might be happy to let you take the 'trash' of their hands but i do know that they do sometimes take it to a high bidder who will restore the siren and put it back in service especially when they post it on ebay. Atleast from what I've learned from this hobby. I know it's like that collecting insulators you ask the crews and show them pics of your collection and they will happily let you take the old insulators while old transformers are taken back to the shop to be repaired and restored.

No. ECS does not restore the sirens that they remove. They used to sell what they removed- but way overpriced on EBay, but they have not been doing that within the last few years. So it most likely got scrapped. Which sucks because the only thing this 2T22 needed was it's intakes cleaned and perhaps a paint job to look better cosmetically.

508 is excellent, though I haven't found any in IA yet.

Well the city had ECS come look at it and there diagnosis was “non operational siren” when in theory it was just a clogged upper intake but they didn’t care and replaced it anyways the city agreed it was the oldest standing siren I will be uploading my footage soon

It is probably scrapped unfortunately. The company that removed it used to list their sirens that they removed on eBay, but they haven’t been doing that recently.

@@ThunderboltSiren1003 It's actually a yes, since 508-128s are actually really reliable. Even more reliable than 2T22s because they have backup power. But if I had to replace it with something, I'd replace it with an Eclipse 8 instead of the 508-128.

Probably because someone saw that it looked old and not working right, but the siren was very reliable and didn’t need to be replaced.

Another reason why they replaced this siren is probably they wanted a battery backup siren.

sad to see the 2t22 go, but the replacement was on its way anyway. who knows when this siren could've just stopped working during an emergency? the 508 is also a worthy replacement and is quite possibly just as loud or louder. RIP 2t22 you will be missed.
