Frozen Warrior: Inside the Army's Cold Weather Training in Guerrier Nordique

In the far reaches of Resolute, Canada, military personnel from the U.S. and Canada have come together for a joint cold weather exercise called Guerrier Nordique. This exercise is designed to test tactical skills and endurance as they work together to operate in extreme winter conditions in the high Arctic.

That big .50 BMG may someday soon be replaced by a SIG .338 Norma magnum heavy machine gun. Same max range but FAR lighter and still capable of anti-materiel use. BTW-> The Canadian Armed Forces winter sleep system is unique and worth a look. "There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing." (Norwegian saying)

Not a chance. The .50 Browning isn't going anywhere until the next gen hurdles of firearms tech (ignition) are achieved.

definitely gets colder than -35 here. The date was January 23, 1935. The location: Iroquois Falls, located 55 km northeast of Timmins and 40 km south of Cochrane, ON. The value was a minus 58.1°C (minus 73°F)

My experience has been that in the field the French Canadian soldiers prefer to speak French. Was that an issue here?

LOL , US reserve Guard Units are better equipped than full time regular Canadian units in Canada’s Arctic. If Canadians are serious they need to up their game , get survivable Arctic equipment for their regular force instead of sponging off the US National Guard. US has Arctic training out Wainwright , Alaska and Mountain Division.

@@120bank8No, he’s not. CBRN protective masks ( gas masks) don’t work with a beard. If a Soldier has a beard and gets hit with a chemical or biological weapon, he just dies.

@@Maryland_Kulakwell considering the temperatures there aren’t many CBRN threats. A beard in the far north is actually a good thing. The equipment the Canadians are issued is decent for operating in the far north compared to what was issued in the 90’s early 2000’s. Oh and there isn’t a CBRN mask out there that is effective at -40…..
