Frozen Pipes Burst | Building Our Own Home
We failed our mission! We never finished the project to enclose the bottom of the house before winter and now we have....a frozen pipe. It's time to repair the ice filled pipe, unravel the side-by-side mess, battle it out in the game room and prepare for the rest of the solar power install before next the incoming winter storm hits.

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while we building our own off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid". This channel is dedicated to short vlogs showing our life outside the build.

An electrician making his own grid, and then seeing it work successfully, must be pretty satisfying.
Watching a father teach his son how to use a power tool and put a tire on warms my heart.

Yup, these days you have people call the cops for child abuse for teaching kids such skills.
"I don't know how it happened, it wasn't me"....the mantra of my children. 🤣
I love how you allow your kids to help. This is how they learn to deal with life’s challenges.

I raise two boys and two girls. I wouldn’t trade anything for the memories we all experienced together. Be it at the dinner table or vacations and countless sports games. Guess what, now their are all 30+ years of age, married and now it’s the grandchildren. We regularly get together to celebrate family.

My Mom used to say that all the time when I was a child. Then to my children.
Teaching the kids to fix thier own mess ups is a good thing. Teaching Mom and Dad about heat tape and insulation is quite another thing!!!
I absolutely love, love, LOVE how you don’t yell at your kids for such a small issue but, instead, teach them how to fix it themselves. Keep being you. Your kids are awesome and I love watching your shows.
I'm pretty sure I could watch a 3 hour livestream of Chuck snoring.

Your filming style is getting to professional level. Just the scene at Lowe's for example looks very good, camera movements and focusing,
When we raised cattle my wife would keep an eye on the cows with the binoculars that sat on a cabinet by the back door..
Boys wreck buggy!! Meanwhile Elle is laid back in the tire just shaking her head at them!! Lol hahah she is such a daddy’s girl.
I was always under the car with my dad helping him fix something by holding the drop light. I really loved that guy. What I learned was, Get that dang light out of my eyes!!

I love this family. Josh is a real man, teaching his kids well, having patience with his wife and showing her stuff. Y'all are an awesome family.
Always impressed with your "can do" attitude to your various problems that you have encountered. I also remember (many years ago!!!) my kids doing annoying things and me sounding off to them, while you folks talk it through with them and get them involved in the resolution of the problem. As others have said elsewhere - a great education for your kids to face the world in years to come! God bless you all - stay safe and well. Cheers from Scotland
I am in Germany...The autobahn is usually closed in real life too, so the experience was very realistic!!

I like how the boys are learning that it's not a problem unless you can't fix it. 🥳 HAPPY BIRTHDAY Hayden! ✨
Do you realize how man young men do not know how to change a tire. Thank you for teaching them practical skills. You are both fantastic parents.
In 20 years you will still treasure the special moments like this birthday. You may also feel like the time went by in a flash.
Little sissy says don’t smash your fingers big brother... ❤️how sweet is that?!? You have a beautiful marriage and blessed with many things. Always keep God first before each other. Enjoy each other and live every day with your family to the fullest.❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
The goats kidding is as good as the Groundhog not seeing his shadow. Spring is on it's way.
Chuck is the star of the show. Wouldn’t be the same without him haha!
You may find over the years that the tougher times you had together are often the more memorable times. You'll share "remember when's" and laughter. These are the ties that bind.
A year ago, and back, and back, and now again happy birthday to your little princess and mine, how time flies!!
Reminds me of when my son was that age, fun times at the arcade. "Best birthday ever!" My heart melted when I heard that.❤️❤️
These lambs are so cute... it’s such a fine line between cute and delicious.
when i grow up i want to be like you two. The debt free off grid home, the cheeky playful relationship, wonderful kids. You guys are awesome. whether it's online or not, enjoy your beautiful family
Those lambs sure are adorable. But not as adorable as your 3 children. Looks like everyone had a great time out for Hayden's birthday. Happy Birthday Hayden 🎉🎉🎉 Stay Happy, Safe and Healthy Everyone 💕
Hey guys just wanted to pass along caution when it comes to heat trace. Get the good stuff!! The kind that is specifically for "can get wet" applications. Ours shorted and burned pretty badly because it got wet. we very easily could of lost it all Love to all
Before you close in the underside of your house run some strips of led lighting.. it’s cheap and will make working underneath so much better when block off and dark

Thank you for sharing your real. Great to see the children helping with tasks. No underpenning may have worked some years, but not this year/winter. The lambs are so cute and growing quickly. Our weather here, west of you, is starting to change for the warmer. Hope you will see that soon also. Happy birthday to Haley! Stay safe, warm, and well.
Lived in scandinavia all my life. Endured temeoeratures to -50 and never had a frozen pipe.... do it right. No problems. Insulation is the name of the game, save a lot of work!
Here in Northern Michigan, we use heat tape a lot. Welcome to our world.

Do you have heat tape that only activates when it's below 0°Celsius? Seems to me like a massive energy drain unless this sort of solution is presented. Can't be hard can it? Do you have experience with PEX tubing for water mains supply? Is it more frost-proof?

@@zteaxon7787 Pipes should never be open to the environment. Don't even have to be below zero for the pipes to freeze if there is wind blowing directly at them.
You two and your children should be "poster children" for the perfect family. I check daily in anticipation. of your next video posting. Since I live fairly close to you in PA I'm with you, this winter weather has got to end soon. My plow service is getting rich off of me.
Having you kids help fix the problem is good parenting. Good job Mom and Dad!!!!
I love this family, they take everything in stride. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. If only all families were like this it would be a better world.
Early today nice to see you again guys..keep safe always...
Every household has a mystery child named "Intme". You ask your kids who did this and they all say it was "Intme".
Thank you for brightening my day. Happy Birthday Hayden, you look so handsome in the sombrero. The smile on your face was radiant. We live in Arizona and we have Mexican food at least once a week. Our fav dip is guacamole, could eat it all day. Chuck sounds just like Boston Terrier when he is sleeping. So glad your frozen pipe was a relatively easy fix. Those poor people in Houston with all those frozen pipes in their homes, breaks my heart for what they have ahead. I have decided I will never complain about the heat here in the summer again, compared to what others are going through, what is a heat. Watching your family interact makes me smile.❤️
Great parents constantly fixing stuff. A good sense of humor is invaluable!
Always a good day when I get your notice !!

Regrets about the burst pipe - it's nice that you can do your own repairs (obviously)! When it's all enclosed, it will be nice and toasty under the house. Happy birthday, Carter!
Case of the old cracked pipe again... Hate when that happens...
Well happy birthday on the lad and I see everybody is having lots and lots of fun be safe and don't forget to wrap up the pipes for they don't freeze
Happy Birthday Hayden. looks like you had fun. give chuck a hug from us. stay safe everybody.
Frozen pipes is exactly why I live in a no freeze climate near the equator where the growing season is year around. I learned the hard way that the utility costs and building maintenance costs are 3 times more living in climate zones that freeze plants and pipes in the winter.

Just in case you EVER wonder...yes, I love you guys!! You encourage and play with each other... and you always make me smile. Who is in charge of filming ALL the nature portions of the video? Josh, it's NOT you...I'm sure. So tell your lovely wife SHE is AWESOME for all of those video portions. They are really a significant part of your videos...and as an artist myself, I LOVE THEM!
As you already know, allowing the kids to help out and drive the side by side is memories they'll carry forever. Great video.
Seeing the work and effort put into the house and your videos is really inspiring, stay safe and best of luck!
Happy Birthday looks like you had a great time!!! Enjoyed the video
Awesome! Chuck enjoying his nap.
What a wonderful family. Happy Birthday Hayden. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Great interaction with your children and each other.
Your cinematography has come a long way. The variety (quick shots that convey the overall feel of the event you are filming) and music is excellent. Good enough for a TV reality show IMO. You're one of the channels I look forward to the most for that reason along with the overall content of a family loving each other and being together.
Gooooooooooooood morning , it has been COLD ! I was wondering about the unprotected pipes under the house :-(
Chuckie takes his foster Dad duties quite seriously as he missed seeing his charges escape from the house and when they are returned he falls asleep on the job. LOL 😆 The lambs are so sweet. Feel free to Snow my way in NC, we currently live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the eastern side which means multiple factors have to happen for us to get any real snowfall that accumulates more than a few inches. We generally get the dreaded wintery mix which is more ice than anything. We have gotten a couple snowstorms that looked amazing at 2-4 am only for the temperature to rise and it turned to rain and melted the snow leaving barely a trace. Makes me really miss living in Allegheny county and Northern Virginia because we got decent snow each year.
Both Erin and Josh seem like pretty awesome, humble and hard-working people but I can honestly say the Josh may be one of the best husband's and definitely one of the GREATEST DADS of ALL-TIME!!! Just watching how he helped his wife and the kids do things throughout the house building process and also the patience he has! I don't know him nor do I know much about him but I can only hope he is as genuine and patient in real life when he isn't being filmed. I mean just watch how he acted towards his kids when they got that wire stuck in the back wheel. Not only does he teach and explain to the kids (also to his wife too on other projects) how to do something, he also tells them why you do it that way. He is also extremely patient and doesn't seem to let little things, and big things too, bother or stress him out. He realizes it was an accident and doesn't freak out or yell. You can tell how good of a father he is mainly due to how much the children respect him. Overall the parents just seem like an amazing human beings. With Josh and Erin as patents, these kids need to realize how lucky they are growing up!!!
I so want to see more Chucky hes awesome :)
Lessons that will last a lifetime!
You are the funnest parents ever.
I'd say your kids are a lot stronger then city kids. He hit that wacko machine and he lights it up, he has power in his arms. Love the teaching, not scolding and whipping.
