    I think it was more the fact the entire kingdom was encased in ice. I honestly think if Elsa had just left and everything else was fine, Anna would have just opened the castle gates and only made some token efforts now and then to get Elsa back. The urgency and obsession was the fact Elsa created an endless winter.

    Ooh, I’ll add to the ever growing list of plot holes! The movie says constantly that Elsa was a “gift” and a “reward” and such, but if you think about it, she was a pretty terrible gift. Her powers were never good, in both movies they only caused hardship and struggle to her and everyone around her, even leading to her parents deaths. Pretty awful reward for saving your enemy’s life, huh spirits?

    Um if you only go off Frozen 1 then yeah but Frozen 2 gives her a purpose for her powers. She uses it to find out about her parents shipwreck, gains info in the glacier using it and then saves her kingdom. That's more than any hardship she encountered in Frozen 1.

  • @lumen_speros2165

    It would be a better story if it’s was about how detached the spirit are and that Elsa is also similar. Like it would justify the entire first movie as overall it’s a good gift but at the same time it’s like giving a gun to a child would be great if it explores more of how the spirits interact with humans through Elsa and the others.

  • @lumen_speros2165

    @@davebautista2027 Yeah thats true, but while her power have purpose there. Why is it that she has to lose her parents, essentially kill her sister, get depression and probably some form of social anxiety/survivors guilt and nearly freeze/starve her people. Why should this be considered a gift? It causes more problem's than it should. It's similar to the obedience gift from Ella enchanted. and it more of a problem to think that "hey while your powers have caused you an so amount of suffering they are actually the best thing that happened to you." plus she never under goes any emotional growth in the story. everything you list is all overall surface level in terms of writing.

  • @gigikju9934

    @gigikju9934

    It was only a “bad gift” because they made it seem like one. Her parents were the ones who forced her into hiding. The whole point of “let it go” is that she was finally able to embrace those powers for what they were: a gift. Heck, her entire CHARACTER ARC clearly stated that! She was able to use her powers for good in the end. (And they’re also the only reason she got to atoholan (however the heck you spell that) which makes her the reason the village was saved. Pretty cool gift to me!)

Also, the way Anna treats him in the movie is also extremely out of character for her. The only character that didn't change was Sfen. And don't even get me started on the fact that Elsa is supposed to be the 5th spirit, despite being more like the extention of the the water spirit. Wouldn't it make more sense if Elsa and Anna were just extentions of already existing spirits???

    Not only does that bother me so much, but it’s so out of character for Elsa and I feel like it ruins her character arc and development from Frozen 1. The whole point of the first movie was for Anna & Elsa to get back together after spending their whole lives separated. Elsa overcomes her fear and learns that she doesn’t have to push people away and can be her true self with the people she loves. That’s one of the many reasons Frozen 1 and Elsa resonated with so many people. I felt F2 completely ruined her character because they made her feel out of place at home for some reason. She spent the entire first movie trying to get her home life back and even sang a song in Olaf’s Frozen adventure (“When we’re together”) about how much she loved her family and kingdom and that she’d never give it up for anything. But then in F2, she literally gave it all up so she could become a spirit and live in a forest with strangers 🙄 Cause somehow that will bring her more peace and happiness than living with her sister in her home kingdom 😒 Not only is this out of character, but this undoes her development from Frozen 1 Sorry, the ending of F2 really irritates me. I love Frozen 1 and I wanted to like F2, but I felt like I was watching a different movie with different characters. Frozen Fever and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure felt like better sequels to Frozen than F2 did because the characters were still the same. But then F2 ruined everything. I have low expectations for Frozen 3. I just hope F3 brings back the Elsa and Anna we all loved from Frozen 1, Frozen Fever, and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure

    For me the way I'd change the movie is this: Both Anna and Elsa will hear the voice. Elsa won't be bothered by it because she's done leaving her kingdom behind. Anna on the other hand will try to find where the voice leads as it will show her visions of what really happened to their parents (During "Into the Unknown" Elsa was shown silhouettes of the elemental spirits so we know my idea isn't really out there lol). Basically it would be a reverse of the first movie. Instead of Anna chasing down Elsa, it would be the other way around. The beach scene will be moved earlier. I think this would give it more weight. She will be able to tame the water horse for a bit but it will throw her off just at the shore of the forest later. When either one of them arrives at the forest, they'll immediately see that the elemental spirits are going crazy all around the forest. Every tree is burning with red hot flames and the gust of wind is just making it stronger. Anna will arrive first and she'll see the rock giants just idle and driving anything that comes to them by shaking the ground. They're placed right between the rushing rivers which is too fast to be approached anyway. When Elsa arrives, the elemental spirits will halt then head right onto the bridge. The rock giants will come as well and there will be a devastating earthquake while they walk. It will be explained that the spirits are mad because one of the elements has been gone for years and without it, there is no balance. And Elsa's arrival brought sense back to the elemental spirits. And with their senses back so too is their memory of what stole the fifth elemental spirit to begin with: Arendelle. They will now be warned that if the bridge falls, their kingdom will be flushed away. I think that will make the movie have a heavier stake. Elsa will now shift her attention from Anna to the Fjord. I guess they could meet at one point and have Anna and the others defend the bridge while she's gone. Elsa will then try to tame the water horse again but instead, it pulls her underwater then spit her onto the frozen palace or whatever it's called lol. The voice will lead her deeper and deeper in. At first she will be in awe of the beauty of the structures but eventually she will realize that everything's in shambles. The whole place is barely holding itself up. The voice will stop then the four elemental spirits will join together and form an image of her mother. They will explain that they tried to get the snow spirit back as soon as they got the chance but the spirit wasn't there. (Pertaining to the death of their parents) They will say that the bridge must be destroyed as they see it as a mockery to them by Elsa's ancestors. They won't deny Arendelle's destruction in the process but they promise that they won't do any harm to her people and would actually lead them out of harm's way. Furthermore, Elsa must stay there to keep the balance of the elements. In my version, the ice isn't necessarily the binding element of all. They just have to be together all the time or everyone else would lose their minds. (Just how nature works lol, if one thing is missing then everything else would go ballistic) They would also reveal that there are more than 5 elements (just becayse having only 5 is stupid) Elsa would insist on going back but the spirits tell her that there is no choice there. This is where Elsa would be frozen. The bridge will be destroyed and Arendelle will be flooded. Elsa will still try to save it, but it would be too late. The spirits will tell her that if she doesn't come back, the elementals would be forced to wreak havoc just to chase her down and that wouldn't be good for her people. It's not their choice to be so chaotic but should she choose to leave, the elementals would go crazy again. But now that they have an idea who and where the ice spirit is, they will try everything to bring back balance; even when they lose their minds. Elsa will choose to go with the spirits. Despite her sentiments about not leaving Arendelle again, she thought that leaving her people would be best for them. My version is not perfect and is still a little dark lol but I think that would make the story more interesting? Also I thought of this with a 3rd sequel in mind where they will discover more about the other elements and if it's possible for the spirits to have a vessel like the ice spirit did with Elsa. Since the ice spirit didn't go crazy like they did. P.S. I would also flesh out Kristoff's relationship with Anna too. So that he also has his own character arc rather than just the guy who wants to propose. Or just have him realize that he and Anna are not really compatible at all. That's not such a bad thing to do since that's how relationships sometimes go. And also because Kristoff just have better chemistry with that other reindeer dude lmaoo

    kristoff’s romance with anna was always forced, even in the first movie. They’re such a toxic couple, Anna constantly misconstrues everything he says and Kristoff bases his entire identity on how she thinks of him (dude literally says “who am i if im not your guy?” and more concerned with proposing to her than her feelings. His love is FRAGILE. The fact that Disney is putting their relationship on a pedestal and acting like these two are the perfect couple we should all aspire to be is downright delusional. It would have been better if the two of them took the time to know each other or maybe take a realistic approach and have the two of them break up and become friends because we just teach kids that sometimes relationships don’t work out, you may be attracted to each other but your lifestyles don’t match, and it’s important to find someone who likes living the same life as you become youre going to have to share it with them.

    Don’t let the aesthetics and catchy music fool you, this movie is garbage and should have never been made. There are 11 subplots in one movie and everyone acts OOC the entire film. All the characters I loved are now completely different people. We barely see anyone, including Anna and Elsa, have a conversation that isn’t just exposition. The ending is by far the worst part, with it downright contradicting the values of the first film and applauding Elsa for running away and dumping her responsibilities on Anna so she go can ride a water horse and live in a magical forest. Wow, what a great message: live only for yourself.

    Tangled has the same problem. That TV series tying into it was an absolute plot-jumping mess. They would start storylines, pause them halfway, and then start something totally different. No lasting tone was ever established. One moment it felt like a superhero story, then a palace drama, then a crime mystery, then back to superhero again. They CLEARLY did not have much of a plan going into it. Other than Wreck It Ralph (the first film, NOT that ridiculous sequel) Disney's writing has mostly been a DISASTER in recent years.

    The movie was an eye candy because of the visuals but for the plot it was just mediocre. If not, then it’s less than mediocre. I agree with the fact that everything just seemed too easy for the protagonists. Every obstacle seemed like it can be overcome without breaking a sweat. Elsa just happened to tranquillise each spirit after a few minutes of fighting, except for the Earth Bois but their anger issues are required for the climax or something. She gets to the source of her calling (forgot how to spell the name), rode and swiftly summoned a giant ice wall before her kingdom gets flooded like it was nothing. It wasn’t like she didn’t know how to summon those walls because she’s a literal ice witch who spawned a castle on a mountain peak. Everything in the plot is just flat and smooth as ice that the whole movie might as well as slip and fall due to its incapability of supporting the sole purpose of a movie, telling a story. The deaths are just as predictable as it sounds. As Elsa’s one of the protagonists, there’s little to no chance that she and Olaf will actually die when the movie’s just halfway through act 2 or something without getting revived, in which is one of the things the writers could ameliorate in their further projects. However, the last criticism I’m suggesting could already outweigh the aforementioned issues combined. I could tolerate those but this just breaks my heart in general, in regards to the fact that I used to love the original frozen movie so much as a kid at one point. Even though having seen the movie only once in the cinema, I don’t really see character development and arcs and more growth, especially the main protagonists. All we’re seeing, [SPOILERS] Is Elsa finding the voice who turned out to be their mother calling out to her, telling her how she got her powers and what happened to their ancestors and history and stuff, and Kristoff’s struggles to propose. It’s not a process of self-discovery, nor a process of redemption. It’s just unravelling history, and did nothing to their character development. Everyone’s basically the same and that actually makes us question “so what’s the point in making a sequel when there’re no further stories to tell?” If the devs wanted to focus on the origins of her powers, they could work on a prequel, focusing on arcs of other characters instead. But still, a lot of improvement from Disney is expected and desired. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

    I agree with you, but as a die hard fan of Frozen 1, I can also add some things. What broke my heart the most about F2 was that they undid all of the character arcs and development from Frozen 1, especially Elsa. I could write long but to keep it simple, she wasn’t the same Elsa as she was from Frozen 1, Frozen Fever, and Olaf’s Frozen adventure. And I don’t mean it like she was OOC in the same way that Hulk and Thor were OOC in endgame, but in the sense that Elsa’s arc in F2 goes against everything she fought for in Frozen 1. It’s completely contradictory but somehow, many people don’t see the problem

The only plot point they needed to work on was the voice calling out to Elsa. That was settled 8 months before premiere. Contrast that to Zootopia essentially doing an entire re-write of the whole film about a year from premiere or the directors of Moana being so imcompetent at the story they had to rope in the directors of Big Hero 6 to do it for them about 1.5 years before premiere. Frozen 2's rushed deadline seemed trivial in comparison.

    Tbh, I feel like the main thing that was the source of the majority of the problems with the plot, the characters and the build up of the world was that everything was rushed, but not just in the sense that everything was done too fast, it's like they had a checklist of things to get to in the movie, and they kinda were like "let's get everything on the list done, and nothing else" like when you have a book report for school with a list of things to answer about the plot or the characters or the setting, but you just read the parts the questions ask about, like skipping chapters that give sometimes subtle but important development of the plot and the characters and the world itself, skipping that just to get to the big parts people will ask you about, losing development in exchange for more payoffs, but payoffs that feel hollow without the time spent to have small developments be paid off in big ways, or like bilbo baggins once said, "like not enough butter, scrapped over too much bread" I feel like to have gotten more fullfillingly to where the second one ended, it should've been a series or at least one other film

    In the behind the scenes show (for those who haven't watched it), they reveal that the writers hadn't come up with a conclusion to what the voice was when production was hitting the later stages. So the songwriters eventually came up with the idea of the voice calling to Elsa being her mother, with the song that is sung in the cave. Just imagine how much thinner and weak the "plot" could have been if they hadn't come up with that idea. (i may have gotten some detail wrong, i haven't watched it in a couple years). The creators were afraid to ask executives for more time to create the movie, so that sucks. The trailer raised expectations that every character would have a key role in developing the plot, when nothing actually happened and nobody achieved anything. At least in the first movie characters served a purpose. This was a perfect chance to flesh out characters like Kristoff, perhaps make Anna have her own goals, but I guess we can't have everything we want.

Problem is, it doesn't really fit the ending of the first Frozen film. Once I realized what Disney was trying to do to the two sisters, I began to make sense of some parts, but it's so bouncy in tone and values. Like she would have listened to Kristof the only reason she doesn't is so that they can drag out Kristof trying to purpose since that's his only character trait now. Personally I don't really care for the whole "Kristof should be with the reindeer guy!" Thing but I must admit there relationship felt a lot more genuine in the first movie😕 :sorry if my grammer or spelling is bad😅

    I'll probably get a lot of flak for this, but I'll say it anyway: Anna is an unlikable character for most of BOTH movies. She mostly acted like a spoiled brat up until she finally acts selfless for once in her life to save Elsa from Hans. Then she dominates Kristoff for much of their relationship. As flawed a character as Elsa is, I actually found myself often disliking Anna even more. She's honestly one of my least favorite Disney Princesses. Can't understand why people like her so much.

  • @heather2947
    @heather29472 жыл бұрын

    I feel like Elsa leaving was entirely necessary for both of their story arcs. Ana is afraid of being alone and endlessly seeks the approval of others and this stems from being abandoned by Elsa and losing their loving friendship but also from losing her parents. You see it in the first movie - despite repeated rejection, she keeps seeking closeness with Elsa, she's vulnerable to Prince Hans's manipulation because she's so desperate for affection, she puts Elsa's needs above her own and refuses to see any of Elsa's flaws (she's the only one who doesn't view elsa as dangerous and she follows after her at great personal risk). This is a flaw but also the source of all her good traits like her bravery, her selflessness and her loyalty. By the end of the first movie, her needs for emotional closeness with others are being met as she now has Elsa, Kristof and Olaf so one part of her arc has been resolved. Her unhealthy codependency and her excessive need for approval has not yet been resolved though. So then we have the second movie where these relationships are being challenged. In the beginning she's extremely apologetic and accommodating to Elsa when she thinks she's offended her in the family games which is indicative of her need for approval and her fear of losing others. She continually misreads Kristoff's attempts to propose as him rejecting her because she fears abandonment. Her actions are goverened by her need for approval. Ana still prioritises the needs of others over own. She sabotages her relationship with Kristof to go after Elsa, and she does risky things like running after Elsa into fire. She still exhibits this unhealthy codependency and people pleasing. Then she's forced to confront the loss of everyone she loves: she pushed Kristoff away, elsa pushed her away and Olaf, she loses completely. And then she faces that loss - truly, sincerely faces it. Disney made no attempt to lighten things with a funny moment or a silly song like they do in previous films to come back from grief. Ana's words as she comes out of the cave "And with the dawn, what comes then, when it's clear that everything will never be the same again..." that right there is true acceptance of loss. And then Ana does the next right thing in spite of not having someone to do it for. She does the "next right thing" even though it will wipe away her home and with it the approval of the people of Arendel, the only remaining people she actually knows. She fully confronts her greatest fear of being alone and comes out of it stronger. So now, when Elsa comes back Ana can step into her own. She no longer needs to be needed to be happy and so her arc has finally been resolved. I think you're missing the point of the emotional depth of the film. Disney is doing what Pixar does and confronting really hard topics and they've done it authentically. I agree, it's not happy and it lacks the same silly, sweet moments of the first movie but it also grew with its audience and I think Disney deserves praise for that. (I'm not going to discuss Elsa's arc here because this is already way too long but I might make a seperate comment).

    THIS! I came here hoping to see what everyone thought was so wrong with the movie and really didnt understand why everyone was saying that Anna was the worst part of it? Why, cause she was acting different?? Frozen 1 delt with loss, depression, anxiety (etc), focusing more on Elsa and how she needed to overcome, so it makes sense for the second one to focus more on Annas trauma. Poor girl spent her whole life alone and now that she was finally happy it could have all come crumbling down and it terrified her, it made her do stupid things that seem out of character. Honestly, I dont see the problem and out of all the characters we explore and experience her development the most. Plus, it's all necessary for her to be able to become queen, if they had just made her queen it would have been like "oh shes just a replacement for elsa 🙄" but by showing her lose everything and still get up to help those in need, even when it means the destruction of her kingdom which she adores, it proves she is worthy of becoming queen. I actually quite like frozen 2, even more than the first one. I feel like people really nitpick at everything and ruin it for themselves. I know it has its faults but people come in with their prejudices and it ruins it for them. It was funny, it was gorgeous, the songs were good (I didnt care for the Anna one but it still gets a tear out of me) and it's just fun? Idk man I dont understand why everyone is against it. I've watched it probably almost 10 times and I'll watch it 10 times more! Haha x3

    I think Anna’s story should really get more attention. Anna has been through SO much shit. Between her holding Olaf as he melts in a dark cave, someone who she practically considered her child, and telling Elsa that she doesn’t want to lose her (her parents died, she was sheltered in the castle and distanced from her sister in her childhood, Elsa runs away in the first movie, she thinks kristoff wants to break up with her, Elsa is leaving again) but like I guess that’s not really important in the movies? They put so much emphasis on Elsas struggles and how she needs to find her self that they never acknowledge the pain Anna is probably going through? I think they could have literally just made the movie about the sisters going to therapy and that would’ve made more sense.

    I felt the exact same way. I think nick didn't explain it well enough, that there was TONS of themes in the movie, just none had any impact. The main theme was fear of change... but not much really changed. Sure, annas the queen now, and elsa lives in the forest, but that isn't that big. The guard dude's theme was that he had to overcome the fact that the previous regiment was misguided. The problem with this (as nick mentioned) it had a 3 second impact, and his loyalty wasn't clear in the first place, considering he remained relatively friendly with the forest people. Elsa had to overcome her hyperindependence and fear of losing anna.... except she was able to go without her still?? She didnt really learn?? They didnt necessarily work together at all. It was elsa screwing up and anna picking up the pieces. The other characters had a faux-stuggle. Kristoffs ONLY problem was that he loved anna. Olafs ONLY struggle was that he was afraid of change, which was the main theme already. Anna only struggles because of elsa. There was so much more, but none of the themes were developed.
