Frostgrave 2nd Edition Battle Report - The Wizard's Conclave: They Mostly Come at Night
Ойындар
Once again I'm back to the Wizard's Conclave, this time checking out the solo-adventure scenarios penned by some of Wargaming's great indie designers! Kicking things off, Paxton Darke has made the mistake of making camp within the walls of the Frozen City and his fires have attracted the wrong kind of attention... will he and his Soldiers survive the night?

Paxton being swarmed by skeletons: "this is, what we call in the necromancer business, an occupational hazard."
Awesome to see more Frostgrave Ash. Hope you cover The Red King, it looks excellent. Keep up the great work man.
Osland: "Hey boss, it's lucky we found this hot spring to camp by during the night. What does the writing say on the ruins, hot gates? Weird I don't see any gates here."
Frostgrave might be my favorite tabletop game, especially those old pvp dungeon campaigns you used to do, watching the wiz and gang lvl every week
Why am I hearing "Don't stop me now" in my head watching this?

I’m hearing the music that played during the first encounter in Aliens.
I’m very glad to see some more Frost grave. That was excellent fun. Thanks very much.
Nice, Great to see more Frostgrave
I love watching you solo this game and rangers. Great stuff.
Loving the frostgrave narrative. Once restrictions are down in my area I'm gonna see if I can get a group together.
I only got your archers name reference now...lol
Your stuff in the Wizard's Conclave is inspired by The Sword?? I love it!

Hahahaha yeah I like to sneak Easter eggs in there. A couple of the other writers recognized it too. Lol

Z-killian joins the game before turn 1!

Mr. Ash? I LOVE You Man! hahaha Everytime I get bored with Frostgrave or LZDA, You suck me right back in! I have that book, but sadly, never had time to read through it. TY Man.lol Bottom of the Glass' to You! You Sexy Beast! hahah
You really made it hard for your self with this one. Its only 3 times the number of models not 10 (+ wizard level divided by 3) Still hard but if you had killed 25 models there should only have been a few models left.
I really like this battlemat, does anyone know where it's from? Love the Frostgrave episodes, I just got the 2nd editon book for Christmas and I am painting my minis for it.
Good match! Did you kill that last npc when you both took damage? May matter with how short the bank is!
Will you be running the red king?

Hopefully it will get here soon!
Where are the skeletons from?? And battlemat lol
This was fun Ash! I take it you don't prefer the Wounded optional rules -?
Couldn't Paxton have cast Leap out of combat at the end, rather than making an attack; or would that have just prolonged the inevitable?

You can’t cast in combat sadly!

@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames Ah, right; page 61 of Frostgrave 2. Thank you.
This didn't feel very doable as a scenario with a fighty crew, unless you set up the terrain to make your campsite as defensible as possible. Chokepoints to limit how many baddies can get at you at once, elevation for maxing your ranged support, that sort of thing. That would actually make lots of sense - who camps in the open in Frostgrave? Might also be nice if there was some sort of special rule for the monsters suffering a debuff (maybe -1 fight) within some range (maybe 8") of the campfire so there's more thought involved about whether to run immediately or stick and tough it out. A crew built around speed and movement/area denial tricks (which are pretty common IME) should be able to evac most folks safely, maybe sending constructs or zombies off as decoys. Watching this reinforced my dislike for the super-swingy d20 combat system and the lack of anything like morale rules.

The swinginess really starts to take a toll in scenarios like this where the baddies have enough volume of rolls that them spiking dice and killing your best models is an inevitability, which then further compounds itself as you lose guys and they jump on the survivors. It's a fun looking scenario but I think this is stretching the limits of the what the system can support in terms of models on the table.
