I saved every single person and didn't completely convert the city to despotism, it still asked me "was it worth" Yeah bitch it worth we still alive and happy, childs are safe and playing all day in the damn school. Nobody was even seriously ill in -120. You don't even think to ask me this again!

Either the despots win or mankind perishes 🤔 Obviously mankind surviving without despotism is much better. But complaining about that is a luxury only the living can have.

You have to wonder why there is no “traditional government.” Branch. Yes order on paper is the “traditional” form of government but why can’t we re-instate the system of government back in London? - Civilian police force - Parliamentary system or some form of a actual democracy (yes it is not a democracy even if you go with the “best ending. “ A single man runs the city and that being you.) - Checks and balances Or a “capitalist” branch. You are gonna industrialize why not enlist the former factory owners of London to run it? (Basically laws that would favor a wealthy elite well at the same time provide bonuses for industries from resource collection and workplace efficiency at the cost of dealing with a lot of angry folks and most likely just be the engineer branch for last autumn but more ruthless capitalist rather then “work will set you free.”

The problem is that it shouldn't work. It takes to long and I doubt many of those 600 people are entrepreneurial enough. Remember that the storm hits at the very latest by day 43. If you triggered Winterhome or the Londoners early, you get the storm early as the timer starts when you discover Winterhome. This means that you have maybe a little over a month to prepare for a storm that will reach -150c. - Having a civilian police force is just out of the question. They need to be working on surviving, also that is kind of what the guards are at the start. Just getting watch towers and Guard Stations doesn't actually count as crossing any line. - Having a Parliamentary system and democracy is just laughable. You do not have the paper for that, nore the time for people to go around and argue ideas, who should lead them and what they should do. It is a struggle for survival so they NEED to have someone that just put words into actions. Just a single day lost to anything is at minimum a 2.3% loss in the whole game. All you will get is a useless government, with a bunch of people arguing for days about what to do rather than doing it. You do know there are actually provisions in all democracies that allow the government to temporarily disband democracy and get dictatorial rights in extreme emergencies right? This is and EXTREME emergency so even talking about democracy as it should just immediately invoke emergency power and dictate what should be done as fast as possible. - Checks and balances in a struggle for survival? Dude. The only option is to die or not die. The checks and balances are if people will follow you or not. You literally can't survive if you need someone to work a 24h shift so people survive until the next day but the workers refuse because the labor union law say you can't order that. Checks and Balances are for when you are not living at the very limit of survival. When you survive, you can start with that. Capitalism is also nonsense. Capitalism is inherently a decentralized system. It is built on the idea that people are allowed to own property and do with that as they wish (to a limit). The government do not order anyone to "mine coal". People mine coal because they can make money doing it when they sell the coal on a free market. In order to have this, you need a market. A market where money is freely exchanged as money serves as a signal for what is in demand. Increases in production only happens when shortages have become so apparent that people are willing to pay more for it. This is why new factories are made as the signal, which means prices, has gone up. In Frostpunk, there is literally no time for a system like this to work. It is to slow to react and to slow to do anything. In a survival situation you do not really own anything. You do what is needed and if your life is to mine coal for the next 24 hours so 50 people in the hospital do not die, you will mine or die trying. If you have time to care about ownership and earning money, you are not spending time on trying to survive. Capitalism is for a world after the game. Not during it.
