I'd like to know if these wires can be left on and coated with roof coatings like the Henry's 100% silicone 887 Tropi-cool white. I don't see why not? Thanks

That is a good question that I don't know you probably would want to ask the manufacture of the wires.

@@Meekerextreme yep, thanks. I called tech support at Frost King and the other company in Vermont called Wrap-On. Both say the heat won't transfer enough out of the coating. I'm still trying and hoping to find someone who actually tried it and says it works, or hardly works anymore now that he covered the wires with a coating. Thank you

It's been about a year. How did it work for you, and how are they holding up? I've been thinking about buying this. How are far down did you put them in downspout?

If I had to guess I put them half way down. We got new wider gutters so I removed the wires and never put them up this winter as I wanted to see how the new gutters on all the edges of the roof would help and so far I think they have done better. When I had the wires up they worked, they would cut through the snow and allow the gutters not to freeze up. I might put them back up...but it's too late this year and I might just run one line at the top of the gutter and not do the down pipe.

How do you turn these off and on do you plug them in manually or on a timer and does it cost a lot of electricity I heard your electric bill will be raised significantly. Also how often often on do you start and stop these or do you just keep them running continuously all Winter

You probably would want them on a remote or an outlet that you can turn on and off. I just would plug and unplug them but that gets old. Also my idea was to put an outlet or two up under the eve that way you just plug them in up under there and you could also use those outlets for Christmas lights. You just need the heating elements on during a snow storm. As we just used them one winter (I got new gutters so I didn't put them back up for this winter). Now that with the new gutters I can see where issues might be from this winter I'll probably put up a short run near the house and maybe in the gutter and call that good.

The Manuel for these states they should be plugged in to an outlet with a switch and a light on it. Like an old style furnace switch. Mine doesn't have a light but the switch and plug are next to each other

The year I used them I didn't notice much...but honestly I'm the worst to ask, I use what I use and pay and not worry about it. I got a server running 24/7 plus other PC etc. I'm sure it adds cost, but we had a gutter and ice issue. Now that we put on larger gutters and I put a gutter on the upper portion sections we don't have an issue with ice build up. So I haven't used these since this video. I'm interested now in the electric matts for the sidewalk...but they are pretty pricey and we don't get much snow.
