Front brake pad replacement on a Suzuki GSXR750

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 3rd Episode in the Series covering repairs to Tool Girl Sarah's 1999 Suzuki GSXR750 in preparation for a Compliance check to get it on the roads here in New Zealand.
Sarah shipped her bike over a few weeks ago after having a ton of work done on it in preparation for her trip around New Zealand. Unfortunately, it looks like a few rather important aspects were overlooked by the shop in Canada so I offered to give her a hand...
There will be a few more videos in this series I'm sure as there is lots to do!

A lot of people just drill them through. Mine were already done when I got the bike, luckily.

Great video . Andy would the torque for the calipers’ bolts be the same for a 2013 gsxr 750?

Hi Derek, if you could Jack up each Wheel in turn and check to see if the brake is binding on. If it is then it will be either the pads siezed in the pad carrier, siezed sliders or corrosion on the piston or behind the dust/main seal. If it is the last two then you'll have to rebuild the caliper. If however, the brake is not binding on then the squeel is likely due to be a resonance build up on the pads so clean up and apply copper paste or similar to the sliding points. Hope this helps. Cheers Andy

20:33 Hi, Just come in from the garage after fitting new front brake pads (same brand as in this video) on my 1999 GSXR 750 SRAD, also new stainless steel pins and clips. My brake callipers were overhauled last year so the pistons moved back with ease but here’s the problem. After pumping the brake lever the new brakes are now binding. If I grab the tyre and spin the wheel it doesn’t quite make a full rotation. Is this normal and will it improve after I get some mileage on the new pads? Brake fluid is not over filled and is just below max. Thanks in advance. Paul

Just release the bleed nipple on the caliper for a split second. If the binding then clears then you have an issue with your master cylinder If it makes no difference then you have reduced piston retraction, you'll need to remove pistons & seals & clean pistons & grooves in caliper body where seals fit Cheers Andy

Copper grease on brake pads? I did a job without applying ANY - no squeal. Can you get the manual and see what grease it says to apply where. I never see any grease required for any pads.

Applying copper paste or a similar heat resistant lubricant is common practice and ensures no squeel. Sometimes brakes won't squeel but having the paste reduces the chances of a customer complaint.

Why not use an old (or new) toothbrush to clean the caliper/pistons?
