It is no surprise since the era he played in didn't have many great bowlers. Back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, there was a massive number of great fast bowlers so topping the charts for a long time for any particular bowler was difficult. However, it doesn't change the fact that he is a legend and a great fast bowler.

Man that proteas team is what we used to love.. Hashim Amla, Faf Du Plessis, Ab De Villiers, David Miller, Jp Duminy, Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, Imran Tahir..Quinton de kock And Rabada joined later too.. Both Dale steyn, and Shane bond have a very simplistic bowling action, and generate impressive pace!! Just beautiful to watch them in action. Another legend, who has a very simple bowling action and clocks at a generous 130 kmph but as effective as any pacer, is McGrath! I just Love ’em all.

As a child I would copy his bowling action and this gave me enormous amounts of speed and control. In fact, until now I have a bowling action similar to him.

Dale Steyn was outstanding during his physical prime from 2007-13. The 140 km/hr+ outswingers at 1:04 and 3:06 shows how talented he was. He was a natural athlete with an excellent fitness record for a fast bowler. After he turned 30 injuries started hampering him and he was never the same after he suffered a serious shoulder injury in 2015.

His bowling action is marvelous

He was just awesome in bowling, accurate, fast, but injuries took a lot from him. 😢
