From the Field -- HSDJets USA Cessna 182 Assembly & Flight Review

Ойын-сауық

This HSDJetsUSA.com Cessna 182 is a recent addition to the hangar and has been an extremely fun airplane! It's surprisingly aerobatic yet is a great candidate for a trainer as well. Assembly is straight forward, the finish is nice and smooth and with a 2.0m wingspan, it is a good sized model. Chris, very informative - thanks. What were your settings, e.g., to get the elevator throw set to +/- 20mm? In particular, servo travel and high rate settings. I had to really lower either servo end point or high rate to get the desired 20mm.

  • @Thercgeek

    @Thercgeek

    Жыл бұрын

    I’m not sure off hand and I don’t have the radio to look it up. The intention would be to reduce the rate in the dual rate menu to get the desired throw. You can also look at moving the pushrod connections around. Is the pushrod at the outer most hole at the control surface control horn?

  • @kjb7229

    @kjb7229

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Thercgeek Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, pushrod at the outer most hole at the control surface control horn and on the inner most hole on servo arm. This provides the absolute minimum throw with the mechanical adjustments. Only remaining option is to either lower servo end points or lower dual rates, i.e., set high-rate percentage to get the +/- 20mm throw. Doing either requires very low values - around 50 - 60%. I usually leave end points at 100% and only touch to get even throw in both directions. Also, you mentioned adding an addition 5% mix to your FLP-ELE mix. Did you do this using the MFC-2065, or using the radio? Do you know how to turn off the MFC-2065 mix, the manual is no help. Thanks again for your time.

  • @Thercgeek

    @Thercgeek

    Жыл бұрын

    Well, I’d recommend setting multiple rates as I consider my recommendations are a starting point. If the geometry of the linkage isn’t right out of the box (quite common), I’ll just adjust the D/R accordingly. It’s an easier solution than digging out the servos and/or changing control arms. For the mix, I just adjusted that in the radio as the pre-programmed mix wasn’t enough.

    Hey Chris....love this plane. Have always loved the Cessnas. One thing I did notice on the takeoff and landings was how noisy the wheels were. Wonder if changing to the Robans would quiet it down a bit. I did that per your suggestion to my Carbon Z 150 and it worked great. The other question I had about what you said.....why the need for the additional 2S battery for the receiver?

  • @Thercgeek

    @Thercgeek

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, softer tires would solve the loudness there. On the receiver pack, the system comes setup for a separate receiver battery. That’s not a bad thing actually as that eliminates from running off of a bec in the speed controller which is ultimately safer.

    I'm not clear on the 2s battery for a Spectrum receiver or the Spektrum receiver set up. Does the 2s connect to the black box and then out to the Spektrum receiver and if so which port, or directly to the receiver and if so which port? Do the out leads from the black box for throttle, ail, ele, rud, flaps go to the respective ports 1,2 3 4 aux1 ports on the AR620

  • @Thercgeek

    @Thercgeek

    3 жыл бұрын

    The 2s lipo plugs into the black box and the black box distributed the power the the receiver I’m guessing through the throttle lead. And yes, the leads from the black box are to be plugged into their appropriate ports on the receiver.

  • @Thercgeek

    @Thercgeek

    Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. They both fly very similarly and I think the prices are similar as well. The eflite has plastic wheel covers and the option for a bnf but no windows while this one has the windows is pnp only and has foam wheel covers. I’d say pick the one that appeals to you more.

    Hi Chris, I finally bought this plane and installed a Spektrum AR 620 receiver us the supplied wires to connect the receiver to the MFC-2065 which I unscrewed from the wood support to make it easier. While doing so, I noticed on the underside of the black box a single red and black 2 wire which wasn't connected to anything. Since all the wiring from the servos, esc and lights were connected correctly to their respective marked pins on the black box and nothing was connected to the brake pins, I assume the single unconnected red and black 2 wire wire is for the optional brakes should you choose to install them?

  • @Thercgeek

    @Thercgeek

    2 жыл бұрын

    Honestly, I’m not certain. Being only the two wires, that would indicate it’s a power only lead. What is the connector on the end? The model does require a separate 2s lipo for power, could that be it?

    I love the HSD ME262 for instance, it's very scale and very impressive but as 182's go this one is not very scale, it has that cheap Chinese look about it just in terms of aesthetics. I am quite particular about scale, the H9 or TopFlite Cessna's are more my cup of tea but I realize most nowadays value practicality, aerobatics (unrealistic) and power over scale realism and detail, evidence of this is this reviewer's mentioning of "snap rolls" and "knife edges"! TBH the most scale electric foamie Cessna I have encountered (and there have been literally hundreds) to this day remains the Art-tech Cessna 182 500 size. That said I think the biggest contributor to the toy look is the oversize, oversimplified landing gear, a skilled hobbyist could easily modify the gear to look more scale and I think that would enhance the full look but for my money this is just a cheap foamie Cessna that has been 'scaled' up.

    I understand regarding the looks, the incessant branding doesn’t help, haha! That said, the shape isn’t really that bad. Far from perfect, but frankly, I don’t expect perfect scale from a foam model. The 262 has shape issues as well, but that doesn’t keep it from looking like a good representation of the 262 either. On the aerobatics, I mention them not because they are scale to the airplane, but because the model is capable of performing them. Yes, this can be flown in a scale manner, but flying level circles over the airfield doesn’t excite me for non-competition sport flying and I like to push the models I review to see what they can do.

    @@Thercgeek Nothing wrong with you mentioning or testing the aerobatic capability, it's what the people want. This appeals to a market who would likely want to push the flight envelope much like the CZ Cessna except HSD market the scale appeal and this is far from it, the CZ 150 is more scale in fact but neither is meant to be true representations of their full size namesake and I realise that now, I had it in mind that HSD was a higher-end, more scale product but I think the major selling point is rather the engineering and systems.

    I don't like them plastering advertising all over the plane. Takes away from the scale appearance.

    @@Thercgeek I just ordered one, so I guess the branding didn't bother me enough. Lol I will remove the tail and wing decal at the very least. :)
