It all started with a Fostex X-18 4 track cassette recorder I bought back in 1992 to record my ideas. I did an upgrade to a Roland VS1680 digital recorder in 1998 and moved to my first PC based DAW (Magix Samplitude V7) in 2004. That was the point when I began doing demo recordings for my own band, but also doing projects with other musicians and offering mobile recording services.

@producelikeapro Hi Warren, I'm not sure who to contact so maybe you can help. I purchased Sara's Mixing Essentials course and in the eq section there are 4 videos missing in the last module. There should be Additive Eq, Subtractive Eq, Clean Up Muddiness, and Taming Harshness. They're not there at all. Hopefully they'll be uploaded at a later time. But it definitely sucks because I was looking forward to those and Sara is such a great teacher. In the meantime I will move on to compression!

I started with a friend's Tascam Portasound 4-track casette recorder to record demos. Recorded the music solely in an Ensoniq sequencer. Didn't have monitor speakers, used hifi speakers and headphones instead. From there, I moved to a DAW and recorded pre-productions in my bedroom. Good ol' early 2000s. :)

Oh this was a great interview, Warren! In fact I just came here because I recently checked out Sara and her KZread videos about mixing. I was curious to get to know more about her. That she is a really nice and humble person I allready noticed (maybe that's why I choose her channel and not other mixing "teachers" channels). Mindblowing was to me, that it seems to be an widely spread "illnes" among us in music creating business to feel bad about it and having to strenghten selfconsiousness.... in fact I am one of "you" , too. I was working for a company most of my time producing ads for radio/air, and mixing/mastering artists that were under our contract. Of course some live events to promote these artists on weekends. It took me JUST 3 years to get burned out, I was absolutely exhausted and couldn't go on anymore. I decided to leave this "ugly" music business behind and do something else....I'm a carpenter right now. I do this since 8 years and I'm happy so far....but like Sara there is something in my mind/body that wants me to go back to music again. I am into mixing and recording since about 2020. In my privat rooms, but maybe one day I make it into a business again. Ah and like Sara I have an SAE audio engineering diploma (graduated 2003). Sorry, long story ;-) THX very much to share your story, Sara! THX Warren for this really interesting and intimate interview!

Sara Is doing a very good job sharing her skills for beginners but in a very in depth way that even a more skilled person can always learn something. And, as usual, great channel, Warren!

OMG loved this! That’s a northern voice! Didn’t realise the work at the Vale with a-ha, loved that work,a good band that the states didn’t really understand, the rest of the world sort of did with great success.Would like Warren to look into some of a-ha’s work which is rather large! A couple of world records too ! Please investigate them Warren,Check sound on sound magazine history, they have there place, especially as their influences were a mix of Queen,Deep Purple,The Doors ,The Beatles an of course Hendrix, they never kept the sound per album!! Some little gems in there some people have no idea about! Check out No 9 Dream. Keep on going Warren ,absolutely love it,so inspirational!!

Im trying not to buy and learn what i have now. I used to be this way with gear which i sold off two years ago since i had only been working in box for a long time. Those Maida Vale studios she’s talking about are literally on the other side of the road to me, staring out the front window at them now just a few meters away. Very bizarre how our street (Delaware Road, Maida Vale, W9) is residential mansions on one side and the BBC Maida Vale studios on the other. We’re also just a 15 minute walk up the road from Abbey Road as well. Tourists must get so confused passing by these two things as Maida Vale and St.John’s Wood (where Abbey Road is) are super residential areas.
