No country is perfect. You have good and really bad places in all countries just like where I live here in the UK. Things are really falling apart here...just don't recognise this country I've called home now for 23 years...it gotten from worse to worse over the last 13 years it's so sad. Peace of mind, safety, security and quality of life matter most in my opinion. Happy for you.

We moved to Ireland from South Africa in February 2020, with our teenage son. It was the best decision ever. He often thank us for that, because he has opportunities that he wouldn't have there. We miss the sun and the heat, but Ireland is beautiful and the people have made us feel so welcome. We are also so grateful for being safe.

White South Africans are welcome in most other countries, just not in their own country.

Best decision you made! The situation in South Africa has become worse and worse with robberies, hijackings etc. My husband and I also left South Africa with our 3 children aged 6, 8 and 12. We emigrated to Sydney, Australia. I immediately got a job as a Legal secretary and my poor children became “latch key” children as my husband went back after a few weeks to ‘consolidate’ his business. He only returned after nearly 2 years, sneaking his new mistress into the country with him! He left me and our children for this woman. However, after 2 years they broke up but we never reconciled! Over the years I brought up the children on my own as he never ever visited them or even enquired about their wellbeing!! But we survived!

He will give us peace on all sides, the peace that flows like a river. The days of crime and violence will be our past nightmare.

Loved Ireland. Lived there in Dublin South. Travelled to work on the Dart, You dont have to be there for 800 years ( as you do in England) before people will talk to you. Shambles in the North. Hopefully the whole idiocy will depart and the country can be one again. Property.. ouch...lots of government corruption still....soft stuff.

You are very welcome in Ireland. The country needs more good people like you. Safety is so important and your kids will thrive, they will be very well educated and earn great money and with your attitude you will be a great success too. Welcome, delighted to hear at the end that you are happy.

One of my good friends, Capetonian, went there too. Best move he ever made. Don`t worry about the shoddy weather: you`re a hop, skip and jump from Spain, Portugal , Greece, etc. The absence of fear is difficult to explain to those who haven`t experienced it!

An Algerian man I worked with absolutely loves it here, says "Ireland is so peaceful" we are blessed indeed, hopefully we can keep it that way.

My family left Ireland in 1969 to go live in Australia. It took 5 weeks then to get to Australia on the Italian liner the Angelina Laura. We actually stopped off in Cape Town, South Africa on the way to Australia and my mother got the best cup of tea since leaving Ireland. People were mostly leaving Ireland then and not immigrating there. I hope you and your family find happiness in Ireland.

My sister and husband, plus there 2 boys, made the same move, in 2020. He got a job, she played housewife. Same story, had to walk the kids to school 3km? They couldn't afford a car at first. They also rave about Ierland. Goodluck and God bless!

My family came from Donegal and I was born in England.I’ve been to ZA 8 times. And love the country and all the people .However you have done the right thing .Living behind fences and 24 hour security and the constant fear of crime is no life .I hope you love your new home ,sadly poverty drove us away ,look after our ancestral home .☘️

Your story will resonate with most Irish people because so many of us have relatives who had to leave Ireland in the past in order to try and make better lives for themselves-known as ‘the Diaspora’. Thankfully that day is gone-although some people still choose to do so-but we can empathise with people who come here now. I have relatives in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA and the UK and that’s typical of most of us. Welcome to the Irish weather! Cycling or walking home in the lashings of rain and gales of wind was par for the course during my schooldays-still is work/shopping wise as a matter of fact as I’ve never had a car. Well done on what you’ve achieved so far and no doubt there’s a lot more to come in the future. You should be eligible for citizenship in a year or so if you choose to go that route-all doors across the EU open up and because of the Common Travel Area between Ireland and the UK, that jurisdiction would also be accessible for jobs, living etc. I really enjoyed hearing your story.

If I had small children I would have done the same thing. You've made great strides in four years and just think how far you will have travelled in four years' time. I lived in the uk for 7 years to get my passport and was very happy to leave and come back to SA. I travelled to Dublin and Belfast and although I enjoyed the holiday, the weather and culture was not for me. South Africa has its problems but I’ve actually lived my best life since returning and have not been subject to any crime or horror stories that some may have experienced. I travelled a lot when in Europe but there’s just something about the lifestyle, culture and people that I just never gelled with. I always felt like a foreigner and that it wasn’t my forever home (despite trying my hardest). Moving on is fine if it’s for a better life etc but I’ve been back here for 10 years and it really boils down to making the most of whatever on offer and shinning where you are planted. There would have to be a very good reason to up and move again after this, I’m just glad I had the opportunity to live abroad to appreciate what I have now and not to get taken too much with other peoples journeys and lives.

First of all, I have to comment on how amazing your intro is. Wow, you really seem to be very creative/artistic, I could never produce such elegant videography but, I can appreciate it. I'll be honest, I was afraid that you were going to say that you didn't like Ireland and that you thought it was a mistake, phew..... It was a lovely honest and insightful video. There are two things that I really don't like about Ireland, 1 - The Weather and long winters. 2 - The high cost of living. However, I think you have made an excellent choice with respect to your children's future. The education system and career opportunities here are top notch and this will continue for the foreseeable future. Hence the high cost of living but we are now a rich first world economy. And your children will be well balanced, grounded, kind and have a good sense of humour ! Because of you guys but also because in general we are like that here ;-) Well done to you and your husband for being so brave to make these sacrifices for your children. I've met a few South Africans who have done something very similar to what you guys have done. You were so vulnerable with such little financial backing, but you guys are so so rich in talent and attitude. In my opinion, we are very fortunate that you choose Ireland to re-locate to. Now can you please let us win the Rugby World Cup ?

Your story sounds so similar to ours. We left Jhb, SA in June 2017 and moved to Ireland. Not an easy journey, but here 6 years now and loving every minute of this beautiful country. Made some lovely friends here. South African and Irish friends. I got my 10 year residency stamp last year and can now start getting my paperwork together to apply for citizenship. Can't wait to have that. It's not easy. I left my Mom behind, 8 months after my Daddy passed away. So really hard to leave her, knowing she is all alone now. But, at the end of the day, I had to make big plans for my little family. A future for my son. A better life for us. And I'm glad we did.

Out family moved to Ireland in the mid 2000’s for a year . It’s a beautiful place (weather aside) good people , safe, fresh air, clean and orderly. Can’t ask for more if you are moving to a better place. Downside- tough property ladder to get on to and not much to do compared to other major cities. All round a great place

Keeping just putting one foot in front of the other. Don't give up. You are doing the right thing...recognising the small joys of family time.

Hello from South Africa, being here for a 29 years, but now things are change, (you know hou it is now), you made the right choice, no mater hou hard it was, it will be only better, and better,. I have been in a similar situation with my family migrating from Russia 29 years ago. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Céad Míle Fáilte - and congratulations on your bravery and resilience in making such a big leap of faith. We do whatever it takes for the sake of our children. While born in Ireland I lived for a number of years in Zimbabwe, spending a lot of time in South Africa - and really struggled to re-acclimatise back to Ireland due to the weather. Sea swimming solved it (you’re getting wet anyway). Saffers bring a genuine friendliness, braai culture and love of rugby with them - so Ireland is a great choice!

Great to see a real addition to to Ireland .. People who will be of benefit to our Country...

My son still moved to Ireland in 2021 with his British passport. He had no problem to settle and get a job immediately. Dear Lovely South African family in Ireland. I watched with memories flooding back of when my South African wife and myself and our 1 year old moved to Ireland from Germany. I then commuted every week Mon-Fri to work in Germany while my poor wife stayed alone with our son. She was a trooper and despite all the hardships, she managed it poor soul. We Love Ireland. My mother is of Irish descent and Ireland has twice in my life extended a hand, to allow me to get myself out of the gutter. We salute your resilience...when I arrived in German from Cape Town, I had enough for my tiny hotel room, and enough to eat McDonalds each day for the first month. So kudos to your husband being the vortrekker for the family and succeeding, and what with C virus in all that midst. My goodness. Not to mention the housing shortages that we as a family experienced there, having been evicted twice as the house was sold from under us. Again, our collective hats off to you. Welcome to Ireland guys 🤘👏

It’s amazing what you do when you know your children future is at hand. I was back in ireland the first week in September visiting friends in co. Down. I spent three days in Dublin, like you said every country has their issues. But one of my Irish friends was going on and on how bad Ireland was. I just listened and I explain to him all of the problems he’s discussing is going on throughout Europe and the United States. I have friends that just moved back to Ireland because they don’t want their kids going through shooter drills. I’m so glad you guys are doing well and the kids are thriving. Also some of the best universities in the world are in Ireland. It’s amazing what we do to make it opportunities for our children❤

@@youme1414 how are you determining “high racism” one particular incident does not define a society. It seems anecdotal . Like any modern society there are issues. But a small group of agitators on the right does not define who the Irish people are.
