I'd love to see everyone's final image using this process! Post your images here: tinyurl.com/ye23czzs
This is my beginners, start to finish tutorial on how to stack and process your astrophotography images using Siril. I'll also show you how to remove the stars from an image for better touch ups in Photoshop, and how to recombine them into a final image. Towards the end you'll also learn how to remove noise from the the photos using Topaz DeNoise.
Today I'll be working on the Flame and Horsehead Nebulae that was shot with a RedCat51 using my Canon M50 Mark II mirrorless camera, through the Optolong L-Enhance filter.

An absolute beginner in taking sky pictures I have watched quite a number of videos telling what to do with Siril. Yours is the only one I have watched so far that not only tell me what to do but also why. This helps me to make sense of what I am doing and not just following the steps. I guess equipped with the whys I will have more confidence in tweaking the steps to adjust to my particular situations. Thanks so much for the video. Please produce some more, and if possible, more for beginners like me.

Hey thanks so much! I have a newer one for the latest version as well.
Exceptional tutorial DSA, thank you. I'm a beginner in astrophotography (but not in visual astronomy), and while I got decent results after 10 minutes total integration on the Running Man and Orion Nebula, the Flame and Horsehead weren't nearly as persuasive. I was actually practising EAA in SharpCap at the time for both targets and was amazed by the stacked images of the Great Orion Nebula after so short a time. Never seen anything like it at the eyepiece - a revelation.

THANK YOU! After watching no less than 100 other videos, THIS was the one that actually went straight through the Siril/Photoshop process in a generic way. I'm just starting out with a SeeStar, with plans to upgrade, so all the usual references to DSLR, narrowband, filtering etc. were NOT missed, and I could learn a "standard" workflow. I can finally get a decent image using these two tools, and that is completely due to this video. Have to say though, it would be nice to see it with the latest version of Siril, and how you'd use whatever new features are there for Denoising, since the Topaz plugin is no longer available without buying the entire Topaz product.

This is really a good tutorial. I am struggling with how to leverage this help in getting my images taken with my monochrome camera using each of my narrowband filters into a color image. I have fit images for H, O, S, and L filters taken with the monochrome camera and I want to stack them and then work on post processing to get the Hubble colors. I tried the mono preprocessing without flats script, and I am really impressed with the quality of the stacking but not sure how to do anything further with the final fit result file because there are no separate channels. If you have a video on this that would be great.

Now, as soon as I run the OSC Processing script it obviously throws an error as I do not have those folder/files. Is there a work around ?
@DeepSpaceAstro

First of all to get the best possible final image you absolutely need your calibration frames (darks, biases, & flats) With that being said Siril does have a script that will stack only your light frames without needing those calibration frames. I have a video that shows how: kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6qBvNGxYsfSiqQ.html

Yeh, that's me. I ran across your tutorial about a week ago when I was riding the struggle bus trying to image M101 with a cropped sony on a consumer grade tripod and a vintage 500mm lens. Long story short, my focus was slightly off, the shutter times were quick, so my images were dim and not sharp. Sequator could not align them, so I decided to try Siril, started watching tutorials, most were pretty lame. Found yours, realized I might recognize the voice. Went to your channel, found a vid, saw who you were, figured it out. I think if you keep at it, you could grow your channel. So keep at it. Regards, JT.

I got a Sony A6300 back in 2018 so I could use my Minolta lenses for traditional photography, but was too busy with work to use it much. In 2020 I got a few vintage lenses and was using it for wildlife, landscape, and street. Astronomy also a hobby; so that summer, I started with the moon and had some success, tried the planets but I really didn't have the right equipment. Tried Andromeda in 2021, got the planetary alignment, but I didn't really want to go down the stacking rabbit hole, so I set it aside for a while. This winter I wanted to try some Milky Way, but it was out of season, so I decided to skill up with deep sky targets until the summer. So I tried Orion first at 135mm, and that kind of worked. So I wanted to retry Andromeda, but it was too low, so I looked for a higher target, and picked the Pinwheel. I may one or two Bortle 2 camping trips this spring.
I just downloaded the 1.2 beta and you can now work in the RGB tab.

Yep. I just released a video today covering that.
Great tutorial. Just one question, when doing color calibration photometric, should the focal distance take acount the cropping factor of the sensor? I ask/suggest this because I have faced problems with my Canon M200 and Samyang 135. also, when I photograph with a 50mm, color calibration doesn't work.
@DeepSpaceAstro
Жыл бұрын
If you're heavily cropping the plate solve could fail during calibration. Try calibrating before cropping if you're having issues. Color calibration will have a hard time with wide FOV like 50mm.
Great video, if I may ask how were you able to use the Canon M50 Mark II for Astrophotography? I have the same camera but I have not found an easy way to take multiple long exposures without using the canon app and manually doing it. What were you able to use to make this easier?

They're probably revamping again. Give time and try later
See you can simply right click and save Mine has no option there . I wonder if they need me to pay in order to save them .

Siril is 100% free and open source, so there's no issue there. Right-clicking like I showed in the video was removed in the 1.2.0-beta1 version. You have to use the button in the top-right corner. It's not the Save button, it's the button with the arrow right next to it. If you hover your mouse over that button, it says, "Save the current image in a different name" Refer to my video here where I talk about this. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZWiXm5KnodSxlaw.html

Not sure what the issue is then. Sounds like you're doing everything right.

Great tutorial. Please turn of the Click Mouse sound in future videos. It's very annoying.

Literally my first tutorial video. I've taken that out of the others.
Ok. Great video. Liked and subscribed. I DO have a question though. Do the files need to be on the c drive??. All my raws are on an external drive. I copied them over to a d drive, which is internal storage, but not on c drive. The script can't seem to find the directory.

Thanks! They shouldn't need to be on the C: drive. Did you set your working directory to point to the external drive/folder? If yes, any errors in the console when you run the script?

@Deep Space Astro yes. Pointed to the directory. Then hit home button. Folders all there. Run the script and code says can't find directory. This is the newest version of software. Downloaded last night.
