From Palestine to the World: On the Global Struggle for Liberation
With Angela Davis & Dr. Gabor Maté
In this conversation, legendary activist and scholar Angela Davis and Dr. Gabor Maté, physician and author, explore the intersections between the Palestinian struggle for freedom and broader global movements for justice, equity, and human liberation.
Drawing parallels between the oppression faced by Palestinians and the systemic injustice confronting marginalized communities around the world, Angela and Gabor shed light on the common roots of violence, occupation, and dehumanization. They examine how trauma, both individual and collective, perpetuates cycles of conflict and how healing these wounds is integral to achieving genuine liberation.
'Where Olive Trees Weep' is a poignant, heartbreaking film about the struggles and resilience of Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss, trauma, and the quest for justice. We follow, among others, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. It features Dr. Gabor Maté as he offers trauma-healing work to Palestinian women tortured in Israeli prisons.
The program expands on the themes explored in the film and provides a larger historical and social context. Access to the program and the film is by donation.

This talk is inspiring. I just got back from a protest in my little town. We chalked on the sidewalk "Free Palestine, from the River to the Sea" someone asked me what does Free Palestine mean: it means that the Palestinian people can walk with out check points, can draw water from the tap in their homes, can turn on a light when they need one, can make a choice what they want to eat for dinner, can go to a hospital when they are in need, can go to college or high school or elementary school, can sleep calmly throughout the night, can feel secure and loved by neighbors, friends, and family. It means all the walls have to come down, all the metal check points need to be taken down, all the blockades dismantled, it means that all the Israeli military needs to stop imprisoning, torturing, and threatening Palestinians. That Palestinians have the right to wander from the River to the Sea at their leisure.

Phenomenal conversation, Dr. Davis and Dr. Mate! Dr. Mate, I respect your perspective about not blaming any individual because many people are passive receivers of the systemic programming. However, as individuals, each of us plays a role in what happens in our personal lives and in the engagements with others in the external world. As individuals, we are responsible for the roles that we play and choices that we make. That's not blaming the individual, that's holding individuals accountable for their behavior. It feels as if you're saying people don't have the ability or capacity to understand the ramifications of their actions. Granted most people do follow the systemic narrative and are not aware, however, I feel each of us has the capacity to develop consciousness. I don't blame others, but I do hold everyone accountable for the role that they play and so does the legal system and also the natural world. What the individual puts out, the individual gets back. The cosmos holds the individual accountable for her/his energetic frequency. Peace and love to all sentient beings.

So glad that Angela Davis is still around bringing awareness for freedom. At art school in 1970 part of an art school project was to free Angela Davis and that project made many of us conscious of the need to know the truth and to support and bare witness.

Until and unless the humanity believe in their oneness that we all are "creates from the same substance", and "the earth is one country and humankind are its citizens", and the political leaders accepts this reality and stop pushing for the nationalistic and divisive agendas, there will be no hope for humanity. We as individuals have responsibility of breaking these superficial, man-made created ideologies and choose our leaders ( religious or political) based on their unifying vision, or based on their tribal and nationalistic agendas. We no longer can survive with the old tribal views in this age of international communications and interdependency. Issues we have created for ourselves and our next generations need to be resolves with international cooperation and sincere consultation. I do believe that as individuals, communities and organizations, we all have roles to play in this critical period of history. Thank you Dr. Gabor (my hero) and Angela Davis and all the humanitarian people who speak out and educate all of us. Justice and Mercy vs Cruelty and revenge!

Thanks for having created one space where we can speak freely about peace above all peace in Palestine. This is very important because i am an Italian person and i can say that here is very difficoult to speak about Palestine, especially advocating Palestine, without to be brand lilke anti-semita. There is no speech about it, our press is really sold to the establishmrnt and government tha support Israel and USA policy uncondicionally. There are many indipendent journalist that is trying to inform the people on the truth, but for them is very hard. So i want to thank you for all, free Palestina and i want to say to everyone to remain human. "Stay human my friends" like it has said Vittorio Arrigoni.

There is not one valid argument for genocide. Not one. People can fabricate all the excuses and falsehoods they like, but unless one believes that they are superior to others and that they have the right to decide whether or not those others exist, there will never be a legitimate argument for the deliberate extermination of a group of human beings.

Does your all-loving, all-forgiving God not also bless the Palestinian people? It is a devastating cognitive dissonance that we are witnessing, regarding what is happening in Gaza right now. I am wondering how people who support the disproportionate indiscriminate deaths of so many innocent people are able to defend and justify it. It seems a situation impossible to make peace with.
