FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS | Disney Christmas Advert 2020 | Official Disney UK

Фильм және анимация

We are proud to reveal Disney’s Xmas advert, a heart-warming story #FromOurFamilyToYours.
See the magic of Lola’s granddaughter’s story continue in the 2021 Christmas ad, ‘The Stepdad’: bit.ly/3xdJhyg
The final part of the 'From Our Family To Yours' story, 'The Gift' is now available to watch: bit.ly/TheGiftChristmasAD ❄️
While times change and people grow, beloved family traditions make lifelong memories that cross generations and hold us together, especially over the festive period.
Lola and her granddaughter share a love of Disney and Christmas crafting, but over time their yearly ritual of making star lanterns begins to fade away. Looking back into Lola’s past and seeing her grandmother’s much-loved Mickey Mouse inspires her granddaughter to create a festive surprise that lights up her Christmas morning and renews their special bond. We hope you enjoy this special Christmas video, From Our Family To Yours.
Join Disney’s campaign to support Make-A-Wish®. Share some joy and help wishes come true. Simply share a family festive memory on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with the following hashtag: #LoveFromDisney and as part of our campaign we’ll donate $1 to Make-A-Wish® (up to $100,000 US) on your behalf. This Made me cry so so much. I'm not from the Philippines but I'm from Bolivia and that building you can see when the grandma feels like she's back to her homecountry is so so similar to that one Iwas used to see in Santa Cruz de la sierra, la Plaza 24 de septiembre. That's where all my family is and where my brother and I would go running to visit our grandpa at work. He would give us some money to buy ice cream, I'd always take "helado de chicle". Now, aged 25, I just want to go back there and run to get some ice cream and see my grandpa

It’s like our brain is hardwired to think of the months ahead of Christmas to buy gifts, put up the Christmas tree etc. Also crops/ ingredients needed for the usual foods that are served during Christmas such as puto bumbong are harvested within the months of September- December (I think). Traditionally, it starts with the season of Advent and ends until the Feast of Jesus' Dedication in the Temple. The Church culminates Christmas on the fEAST of Epiphany or 3 Kings to coincide with the Christmas day of the Eastern Catholics. Eastern Catholics never celebrate Dec. 25 as Christnas but celebrate it on Jan.6 or according to first sunday of January.

An #OpenLetter to #Disney Dear Disney, On behalf of the millions of Filipinos across the globe and also the 11 million Overseas Filipinos Workers, I would just like to say thanks so much for this incredible gesture from you guys. You didn’t need to do this, you didn’t need to feature Filipinos or the Filipino Christmas celebration in your short animated film, yet you did so. It made me cry. It brought back precious memories of being home at Christmas, making my own Parol with my children and the importance of family. Maraming Salamat! Thank you for embracing the Philippines and her people! Best regards Malcolm Conlan Netizen London, UK

@ATHEIST REPUBLICAN dude, a lot of people don't even celebrate christmas religiously lol, they celebrate it for fun (just like easter). regardless of whether god exists or not, christmas is about being with your family and having fun! i've seen you in every comment thread saying god is fake and whatever but that's beside the point. the cartoon was about family and the lola's journey far from home; her trying to revitalize her granddaughter's "filipino-ness" and rekindle their relationship as family. it talks nothing about the existence (or lack thereof) of god. no one was even talking about god before you commented! i, like you (im assuming - your name says atheist republican and you clearly want all of religion to disappear) don't believe in theism and the presence of an almighty deity, but comment-spamming tens of barely religious (because no one mentioned a single thing about god) comment threads with atheist beliefs is one of the most ignorant things i've ever seen; and i'm on Twitter frequently. maybe keep these things to yourself instead of trying to shut down obviously proud and happy commenters by directly challenging their beliefs when literally no one asked you to? if you're just mad no one's giving you any presents, try getting out of KZread comment sections for once and actually start meeting real people. send me your address and i'd send you a sock or something. have a merry christmas season 🎄🤩.

I took it a different way. I don't think it's OFWs. Lola was a young girl in 1940. Right before WWII ended and when the Philippines was still a first-world nation - no bustling OFW industry yet. It's about Lola emigrating and making a new life for she, her family and through to her grandchildren. My parents were that generation. They and their friends who became their new famies "abroad" grew old, and many have passed away. And many, a lot more than I would have realized until it was happening, are too old to travel any more. They're alone at home but they won't let their kids and grandchildren know or see that. They instead smile and are being strong for them while they secretly feel abandoned and without an avenue to fix it themselves.

@@BegsYourPardon the Philippines was a war-torn country. Manila is the 2nd most destructed city in the world towards the end of WW2. Some of them take refuge to other country while some worked abroad. Fast forward year 2005. I do believe lola is either petitioned by her family (ofw) to go abroad or she took refuge after the war. Most likely, she was petitioned to go abroad. The meaning of this advert, wherever you are, it feels home when you are with your family. Family is everything. Especially in UK and US, most of their health workers came from the Philippines. Even Prime Minister of UK acknowledged that this time of pandemic. Make a wish ⭐️ Merry Christmas all

@@dansky03 My father was in the middle of the Battle of Manila. He would have been 9 in 1940. He's a multiple doctorate as was my mother. They got to the US on their own - separately, and met in the US. Because they were in-demand. The OFWs happened after their time, but Lola is their generation. The OFW nurses situation may have started in the 80s but it didn't skyrocket and become like a huge thing until the late 90s/early 2000s. My folks petitioned other relatives since the 50s and 60s whom mostly started being able to come over in the 70s through now, with much better luck depending on their degree. Of my parents' generation, based on their peers, pretty much everyone was a high-degree professional. If they weren't, they were married to one. Then the next batch, which were the ones' petitioned, jump-started the OFWs. I mean, I guess the Lola character could have been petitioned but spent another 30ish years before she moved out West, but that would mean Lola's children most likely would have been kids of the 70s/80s which would be old enough for the granddaughter, except, that house looks like grandma's house, of a woman her age, even in 2005, and not her own kids' house. It looks like she brought herself over on her own and made a home. I'm pretty sure this story isn't an OFW situation, although, they can appreciate this story as well. OFWs tend to go back. The grandma, the granddaughter and that house looks like the result of permanently moved, rather than OFW, and the implied value of items scattered in the house suggests Lola (and her husband) had higher incomes than an OFW would between settling and sending money back.

Its crazy to think that maybe during the war she used her mickey mouse doll to comfort herself and think of a time when things were normal (it's also crazy to think that the doll was given to her during december 1940 and japan invaded philippines in December of 1941. Her life flashed before her eyes. ) . She held on to that doll after the war and that's why it was so special to her.

I thought the grandmother didn't pick up the teddy as she was close to death and went upstairs to peacefully pass away in her sleep. I also thought that the grandaughter fixing the teddy and creating the stars was an attempt to help keep her grandmother's memories alive due to dementia. Of course, this was all before I read the comments and learnt about what everything stood for culturally! What a beautiful advert. 😍

I love how Disney incorporated Filipino values and traditions, and the depiction of Christmas for Filipinos. Mano-po is an integral part of being a Filipino - it symbolizes respect for elders. The Christmas lanterns, or well known as "parol" in the Philippines, symbolizes light and beginnings. It was derived from the guiding star that brought the three kings towards the baby in the manger. Many kids grow up under the supervision of their grandparents; we call them lola and lolo. Our grandparents are considered as the foundation of our family. Different from other cultures, we take care of them as they grow old, making sure they felt loved and special. Passing of old things, may it be clothes, shoes, toys, dinnerware, and etc., is an ongoing tradition for Filipinos. Anything that have sentimental value will be passed down to generations. It teaches the younger generations how to appreciate things that lasts and the memories it holds. Also, hoping it would give them the same wonderful experience. Thank you Disney for showcasing what Christmas is for us Filipinos.

I HOPE DISNEY WOULD GIVE FILIPINOS A CHANCE TO SHARE THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS IN THE PHILIPPINES. THE LITTLE GIRL WOULD BE PERFECT TO LEAD THE ROLE JUST LIKE THE LITTLE BOY IN COCO. THE PHILIPPINES IS THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD WITH THE LONGEST CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS! CELEBRATED FROM SEPTEMBER TO DECEMBER. AND THIS WOULDN'T HIGHLIGHT A TYPICAL WESTERN TRADITION WITH SANTA CLAUS, ELVES, REINDEERS AND SLEIGHBELLS BUT THE HARMONY OF THE CHILDREN DOING "CAROLLING" WITH THEIR DIY INSTRUMENTS (THIS COULD BE A HAPPY AND COLORFUL MUSICAL SCENE FEATURING TAGALOG CHRISTMAS SONG), PAROL MAKING, AND OUR TRADITION CALLED "SIMBANG GABI" THAT WOULD DEFINITELY DO MAGIC TO SHOW HOW FILIPINOS CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS.

My mom just sent this to me, and I started sobbing. She and my dad have lived in the US for 32 years, and in that time has seen her siblings and parents only a handful of times, and my dad's estranged with his sister. I realize now how homesick they must feel, limited by income and debt early in their marriage and unable to visit home, and now the separation due to COVID.. with my brother and i moved out, i can't imagine how lonely they must be. I'll have to make this christmas a good one.
