From Metal to Money: The Fascinating Manufacturing Process Behind Coin Minting
In May 2024, the largest coin collection is set to go on sale. It belonged to a Danish businessman named Bruun, who died 100 years ago. He collected over 2,000 coins from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. According to some experts, Bruun's Collection could be worth up to $72 million. He started collecting coins when the world was going through a great war.
But the history of coins is thousands of years old. In the Iron Age, people started making coins. The first coins are mostly linked with the Iron Age of the late 7th century BC, particularly with the state of Lydia. Some historical evidence highlights that coins made of gold and silver existed even before this time, and they were called electrum. Interestingly, the famous ancient Greek poem Odyssey mentions the usage of coins during those times.
Since then, coins have been in production. Nowadays, almost every country produces its own coins. In 2023, the US alone produced more than 11,381,640,000 coins. But today, the manufacturing of coins is very different.

You are very confusing, first you said that his coin collection was 2000 when it’s actually was 20,000 pieces. And then you said he started collecting coins during World War II, which didn’t happen till 1940s and he died in 1923. You really need to get your facts straight.

I think that having a piece of money in hand is relevant and it makes sense that you can hold onto your money physically. People like to know that they see what they have in hand? Im not sure if even any of this makes sense at all or not? I enjoy having coins. It's been the American way for years. you can buy things and you know what you have, and the seller can physically see what they have been given to validate the sales

It has already been shown that governments can easily track people using BitCoin to purchase illegal stuff on the dark web, you can’t tell me that they can’t manipulative it.

On August 14, 1935 the U.S. government inaugurated Social Security. The government proclaimed that a person's number would be sacrosanct and NOT be used as an Identification number for citizens... Yeah, sure, your number became your identification AND your taxpayer number. The government decreed that every newborn child will receive a Social Security number and VOILA! EVERY LEGAL RESIDENT in the U.S. became identified. As sure as the sun shines, digital money will track you for EVERYTHING you earn and spend. It can be taken from you at ANY TIME. Will the American people become American "sheeple"?? Just damn!!!
Remember that any digital currency using block-chain tech requires a shitton of computing power, thus electricity and thus resources.
Very informative and interesting. I'm awed at the whole process!
Back in the mid 1980's I worked in a company that did government contracts, every week we received a book with government contracts that we could bid on and one of the contracts listed in the book was for making one cent blanks, the contract stated that a manufacture would be *_PAID TWO CENTS EACH TO MAKE ONE CENTS BLANKS!!!_*

I found an unstuck blank quarter in a mint roll I got at the bank when I went to get change for were I was working. I showed to my manager all he could say was 'so what' I told him you will never see or find another unstuck blank in a roll of quarters again. It went in my pocket and I put quarter in the register from the tip can. Back then in the late nineties an unstuck blank quarter was going for about $25 at coin shows.

Saying that cryptocurrency is cheaper fails to take into account the outrageous amounts of energy used to ‘mine’ this invisible currency. Either way, the planet suffers, but at least with a coin, you can probably use it when the power’s out or the Web goes down.

How much of this is just AI bullshit? Starts off sounding like a 4th grade book report, spewing well known facts. And the US didn't stop making 1¢. They've made like 6 to 10 billion every year, with no plans to stop. Canada, yeah. Discontinued 2012
The ridge protects coins alright, but not from wear. It protects the edges from being clipped, usually by a certain tribe of people. I won't say who because I don't want to be banned from commenting again but I'm sure you can guess. If not, it's not hard to look up, if you're interested. Of course, this would have been more of a problem in the past, when coins were actually made from a valuable material, unlike most that are produced today.
Another crappy AI generated voice over. What a lazy, lazy approach.
Uh you’re giving false information . The US still makes Pennies . Yes, the U.S. Mint still makes pennies, shipping 4.1 billion in 2023 for circulation. The penny has been continuously minted and circulated since the U.S. Mint's creation in 1793, making it the only American coin to do so
