📜 Video Description 📜
To celebrate the 10th episode of Mark's epic journey, Pete is giving him a masterclass on hand reading, a skill that Mark really needs to work on. How do we hand read in poker? How specific should we be? At what point in the hand should be begin hand reading; and how do we use our conclusions to pick a line?

This comment promises to be a tome. Apologies in advance. I have terminal cancer, But I am doing great, exceeding expectations. Five years ago I was given 2-3 years to live. But a stem cell transplant and monthly chemotherapy have retarded the progress of my blood cancer. Unfortunately, my spine is a mess, seven compression fractures from tumors weakening the vertebrae. Two years ago as an antidote to boredom I embarked on a mad plan to learn and play poker. "From the Ground Up" really helped me get started. I have moved from 2NL to 100NL, building my bankroll from $200 to $2200, a lirrle slim for my stakes, but I move down aggressively if needed. I have a couple study buddies and more free time than most. Between the cancer, the chemo, the pain, and, frankly, old age, I am too feeble-minded to multi-table so I am not capable of putting in a lot of volume, around 50,000 hands per year. I do study a lot. I too have a philosophy background, Columbia College 1980, as well as a graduate degree in Classics, and a law degree. Besides poker, I have written and published five books in the last five years. But studying and playing poker has really kept me engaged and challemged. All this autobiography is preamble to saying thank you. I love your content. I have learned a lot from this series and Cash Game Mastery. My game, which was pretty good, has markedly improved already and I think as I integrate more of the teachings will only get better And, as important, it's endlessly entertaining. I have told all my friends about the channel and included a link to it in a Notion group study platform I built. So, thanks for all. Best of luck to Mark. Truly appreciate you both and your efforts.

Hey Pete, you move through the preflop action so quickly that it's difficult to understand how we get to the flop. It's hard to even pause it at the right spot. If there's software that exists that shows the action history of a hand that would be fucking awesome to have. If not, I dunno, maybe just state the preflop action out loud real quick so we understand what's going on.

I worry that Mark is obsessed with the term "polarising" and tosses it out automatically, knowing that it is correct a lot of the time. Great guy though, keep it up.

Mark, I've noticed you spend a lot of mental effort avoiding the term 'linear'. Often you will say "not very polarized" or even the rambling explanation demonstrated in the KK hand. Saying they 4bet more linearly than in theory is a much cleaner thought process than "That 4bet range doesn't have as much of the polar 4bets, the bottom end of it". I've watched every episode of this series and you are comfortable with using condensed, merged, and (maybe too comfortable) polarized. It's like you used to play too linearly and have hence considered it a dirty concept that has been banished from your thought process. It is a useful concept. Keep that mental effort for the more relevant parts of the hand! Love this series, and I'm cheering for you.
