From Dirt to Asphalt: Transforming Donner Pass
Don Schmidt retraces the early motoring history of the Donner Pass region on old Highway 40, in a 1929 Model A. This video was the last roadtrip for the Model A which is now a part of the permanent exhibit at the new Donner State Memorial Park Visitor Center. The Grand Opening of the Visitor Center is scheduled for 11 AM on June 6, 2015.

Lord Willing, I’m gonna drive U.S. 40 across N. California. It won’t be in a Model A ( Dad sold the one he drove to High school back in 88) so will have to drive it in my Chevy PU. Every time I get out my Atlas, my wife rolls her eyes and asks where I’m going this time. time for a new one, the old one is wore out……. LOL ! Thanks for a quick trip and the history lesson

wow--interstate 80 opened when I was 8 years old? that;s not that long ago ! lol
didn't they install the freeway for the 1960 Winter Olympics at Lake Tahoe? I thought I read or heard long time ago if there was no freeway, there would be no Olympics.

I got stuck on old hwy 40 when I was driving it during the winter and had to pay 800 dollars for the damages done to my truck
The pass and lake should be named after a Indian Chief who took great care of the Mountains❤️🙏🏼

I always thought that the Sierras were incredibly beautiful. Then I went to the Italian Dolomites. The Sierras seem like a boring set of hills in comparison.
