    This is a plane that I have been faithfully waiting for ever since the sim was released. In real life, I own a 1977 A36, still with the original avionics it shipped with (except for the GNS 530/430 suite for easier IFR flight), and having a G36 with G1000 screens just wasn't good enough. Really excited to try this one out, considering I own every other Black Square addon, and are very fond of their work. Can't wait to see how well this plane lines up with the POH

    I'll be getting this. I think Black Square have frankly worked wonders with these, as the default aircraft are (in my opinion) largely awful. I love the Kingair especially. If they make a few changes to the flight models in future, these will be the perfect GA aircraft. Good video as always mate. 👍

    Haha, I don’t mind a few of the default aircraft myself (they are default aircraft after all), but there’s no doubt that Black Square takes them to a whole new level! The King Air is superb and the Bonanza / Baron have very much followed suit (the Caravan is great, but it doesn’t do quite as much for me personally). I do hope that we’ll continue to see updates / flight model improvements, but I’ll continue to have a lot of fun with the Black Square lineup either way I’m sure. Thanks very much once again sir! I do hope you’re keeping well. Happy flying : )

    @Into the Blue Simulations yes mate keeping well thank you, hopefully you are yourself. If Black Square can continue to give this kind of care snd attention to some of the other default GA aircraft, then they will continue to be essential purchases. One thing I would like to see however is a little attention done to the external modelling. Asobo permitting, of course. I do completely agree with you about the Caravan, too. It isn't as serious as the Kingair, and it's not as fun as the Bonanza, for me.

  • @IntotheBlueSimulations

    @IntotheBlueSimulations

    Жыл бұрын

    Unfortunately, I don’t think Black Square are allowed to touch the external modelling, it’s against the licensing agreement of using it apparently (although I don’t know where the line is drawn, since they were allowed to add tip tanks to the Bonanza). I know it’s easier said than done, but it would be nice if Asobo used a little of discretion on these sorts of things. Either way, I don’t tend to spend much time outside of the virtual cockpit personally, so I can live with the models as they are (though some improvements would be nice of course!). Cheers : )

    Appropriately, ‘Bonanza’ - the American Western television series that ran on NBC from 1959, to 1973, set in the 1860s and which centres on the wealthy Cartwright family, who live in the vicinity of Virginia City, Nevada, bordering Lake Tahoe. The term ‘bonanza’ derived from the Spanish, & arose from discovery of the 1859 silver lode located near Lake Tahoe 😅 The Beechcraft Bonanza has now operated longer than the show but type featured the occasional moral quandary as per the show’s trope as well as dependable values ;) and more variant updates than the 1962 Johnny Cash rewrite version of the musical theme of the TV show 😂

  • @IntotheBlueSimulations

    Haha, well it was actually intended as more of a “throwaway” comment Chris, merely stating that there are better flight models out there XD Since you ask though; the king is *obviously* the HPG Hot Air Balloon, but other addons worthy of mention: - Fenix A320 is still the best handling jet in my opinion - FlyInside Bell 47 seems like the most convincing heli - The Got Friends Wilga is probably one of the best SEP’s currently - FlyingIron Hellcat for the best warbird - MILVIZ C310 for the twins (though it’s very hard to pick apart from the C414). In fairness, I couldn’t really give you a “best flight model in the sim”, since they all have their own strengths and weaknesses + I’ve never flown most of the aircraft listed above. I still think the Fenix takes some beating though, in terms of accurately recreating the “feel” of flying the aircraft. Not nearly as solid an answer as you were hoping for I’m sure haha, but these sorts of things are always so hard to nail down and are still very subjective at the end of the day (I dared to venture back into P3D the other day and had forgotten how great that can be in some respects - it did make me realise just how “twitchy” MSFS still is). Cheers! ; )

    IRL I’m a lowly sport pilot but I’m learning this aircraft in the sim and it’s amazing how stable and easy to land it is, compared to an LSA which I think is equivalent to a “microlight” in Europe. Thank you very much Watercolour, I’m really glad you found the video useful! I must admit, whilst I try to be as accurate as I can with procedures / systems operation, I often tend to fall back on “default” power settings, that I’ve picked from real world flying over the years. If a manual readily offers up appropriate power settings, I’ll generally use those in my videos, but otherwise I tend to go with full power for takeoff 25/2500 for climb and 22/2300 for cruise, as that covers a lot of the “complex” normally-aspirated aircraft I’ve flown (I’ve never actually flown anything with a turbocharger, so I tend to make educated guesses if the manual doesn’t offer anything up). I hope that clarifies things. Thanks very much once again and all the best! : )

    I've only flown one LDA in real life, here in the states. That's the LDA RWY 02 at Hartford-Brainard (KHFD) in Connecticut. With a 20* offset, it's quite noticeable on final (and quite rewarding I might add). Thoroughly enjoyed your video. I'm currently enjoying the Milviz C-310 in VR, so I don't think I'll get this addon, but your video convinced me to step up to the TDS 750 from the PMS. I fly the G1000 IRL which is awesome. Still love steam though, which is what I got my PPL with. Steam, No GPS and No autopilots in the flight school fleet back in 1998. 😂 In hindsight, I'm actually glad that I learned that way, so I appreciate the technology even more, especially GPS! Also glad I learned in one of the busiest airspace sectors in the nation, the NY Class B. I was based at KTEB Teterboro, NJ (Class-D) under the Bravo! Do you know how to tell a real pilot from a sim pilot on KZread videos? Real pilots get rid of the Flight Director when they're not actually flying by it LOL 🤣

  • @IntotheBlueSimulations

    @IntotheBlueSimulations

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Redtail, I don't think I've ever actually flown an LDA in anger. I've flown a couple in the sim at work, but it was certainly nice to try one in MSFS and also whilst flying something a little more "basic" (I'm sure that it was rather rewarding to fly one for real). Just for your info, I'm actually using the TDS GTNXi in this video (as opposed to the PMS GTN750). Both units have their strengths and weaknesses (I've covered both on the channel), but the TDS addon uses the real-world Garmin software (so feels much more authentic) and if you're primarily a US flyer it's great, as it comes with a full set of US charts. So something to think about, perhaps. Much like you, I'd take a G1000 for any challenging real-world flying haha, but I much prefer keeping things "old school" in the sim. I learned to fly a few years after you, but (happily) the tech was still pretty much the same at the time. Haha. I must admit, I don't always remember to kill the flight director in the sim, but don't tell anyone! XD Cheers and all the best : )

    I was anticipating this release a lot, and excited to see you flew it. It is really great to have a KZreadr flying these aircraft as it should be flown…. A relief from others pretending they know what to do. People can really learn from your videos. I was hoping to see you work with the EDM800 and lean of peak, because I quit flying 11 years ago and kind of forgot it but you decided to lean rich of peak. I also was surprised to see you kept it lean a lot during landing. One day I landed in a Piper Seneca at Big Bear airpoert LA in RL and one engine stopped running on the last fase of landing because I still had it leaned (also high elevation airport - 8.000 ft. Or so) I hope you keep up the good work🙏🏻👍

    Hi Ben, Thank you very much for the kind words once again! I think all of us KZreadrs have our own style; I’m not nearly as entertaining as some of my fellow content creators, but a lot of my own personal flight simming enjoyment comes from trying to do things “right” and I try to put that across in my videos, which I think helps give the channel its own little niche. Certainly, I’m always happy if can teach a thing or two in the process as well! Haha, to be honest, that pretty much covered the full extent of my knowledge regarding the EDM800. I’ve never used one before (either in a sim, or in the real world) and if I’d tried to go into any more depth, I would have absolutely fallen into the category of “pretending to know what to do” XD The same is true with the mixture leaning to a certain degree. I have many more hours flying jets, than I do piston engined aircraft and having done most of my flying in the UK, leaning for altitude was never really a consideration haha (indeed leaning at all - we rarely flew above 3,000ft). So, it may well be that I had the engine leaned out too much for the altitude (vs real life), but the setting seemed to work pretty well in the sim. Someone else mentioned leaning out below peak EGT; I was quite surprised to hear that, as I was lead to believe that idea had sort of been “phased out” many years ago, but perhaps not then? Crikey, loosing an engine on short final, at 8,000ft must have given you quite a shock!! I managed to shut down an engine inadvertently just the once (I pulled the throttle back too far, before the engine had a chance to warm up properly), luckily I was still on the ground, but it did happen right in front of the tower, so that was rather embarrassing XD Thanks very much once again! All the best : )

    Haha, I’ve had very mixed results with MSFS icing: It certainly used to be way overdone, but Asobo do seem to have toned it down in more recent updates. The icing in this flight seemed quite reasonable, but I do still have occasions where the whole aircraft basically ices up instantaneously. I guess some of it also comes down to what the devs of a specific addon choose to visually model (it may be that more of the Bonanza’s frame was iced up and it simply wasn’t displaying as such). All the best : )

However one thing i cannot help to note is how light it feels and if you add like 50% on the brakes and then release for full, it accelerated ungodly fast, no where near what i see real Bonanzas do. Cheers Coenraad! Yes, it’s a shame the flight models don’t get the same treatment as the systems, with the Black Square products (it seems like an obvious move to make). I’ve said it to a few people and I think it rings true; the Black Square products are really for those “systems simmers” amongst us, there are better options out there for those that are more flight model oriented (but then to be fair, MSFS probably isn’t the preferred platform at that point anyway). I would imagine the Bonanza to have a bit more “get up and go” than an Arrow, but it probably shouldn’t be doing a cat launch as you describe ; ) Thanks again! : )

    Hi Andrea, My pleasure on the video, I’m glad you enjoyed it! If you’re having a problem using NAV with the GTN750 specifically, I would suggest first making sure that you’re using the most up to date version of the addon (TDS or PMS). This has solved a number of issues for me in the past and is also recommended in the Black Square manual. As far as the NAV mode not working; do you have your HSI slaved to GPS, as opposed to VOR/ LOC (this can changed at the bottom of the GTN750 unit)? That could be the reason that NAV mode is not engaging. I hope that helps a little. Cheers and all the best! : )

    Great video! I have a question though? How did you determine that based on a ground speed of 180, you would need 2.5 nm out to turn on final? Is there a formula that applies to this, and if so, how is that different if your turn is less than 90 degrees? Much appreciated!

  • @IntotheBlueSimulations

    @IntotheBlueSimulations

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi FBG, Good question! There is a great rule of thumb for judging such turns and I also used a little bit of a “fudge factor” haha. When making a 90 degree turn, pre-empting the turn by 1% of your groundspeed tends to work out pretty nicely (ie at 180kts, turning about 1.8 miles before your turning point, should have you rolling out roughly on track). As the turn was over 90 degrees, I elected to pre-empt the turn slightly earlier still, but I don’t know of any formula that accounts for more / less acute turns, so I tend just to make an educated guess, based on the previous calculate value (you can see that the first turn worked out very nicely, whereas we slightly undershot the second one). I hope that helps a little? Really glad you enjoyed the video! Cheers and all the best : )

    Hi TB, I don’t know if there are any aerodynamic reasons as to why the Bonanza has aileron trim (probably not), but I’d be inclined to say that such things are almost like having optional extras on a car; aileron trim can be nice to have, but of course it comes at a financial cost, as well as adding weight and complexity to the aircraft etc. Presumably, Piper felt that the benefits didn’t outweigh the cost, whereas Beechcraft (with the Bonanza arguably being a more “premium” aircraft also) decided to include the option for their customers. The Bonanza is IFR certified (as far as I’m aware), it’s just not certified for flight into known icing conditions (as it doesn’t have the facilities to deal with airframe icing). I hope that helps? Cheers! : )

    Hi RYMD, 1. To be honest, I forgot to check the FPS impact (usually I like to do so during a review); the Baron is costing me about 8fps though, so I would imagine the Bonanza will be much the same (of course this will vary to some degree, based on your system setup). 2. For me, the King Air is still my clear favourite. In part, due to the fact that’s there’s not really anything else like it in the sim, but also because the greater complexity of the aircraft’s systems, really highlights all the exceptional work that Black Square put into their products. After that, it would go Baron, Bonanza (very close call there) and then the Caravan. 3. No, as stated in the video, the GPS is a separate payware purchase. 4. Yes, all default / product effects. There was no use of FS Realistic etc in the video. I hope that helps? All the best! : )

    All good thanks! It gives them a wider potential customer base, as you don't have to buy both their addon and Carenados to use it. That said, I do really hope they will upgrade the Carenado stuff sooner or later. Tbf though, what I'd really like to see is Black Square working with Carenado on an aircraft from the get go. To make it from scratch with them. (Or with any other company that makes visually decent, but systems depth lacking aircraft) I think, given what they've achieved modifying what already exists, I'd bet if they were given a totally free hand to build from scratch the output would be excellent!

    Yes, all good here thanks! I’m not so sure haha : P Given that Black Square just did the Baron, an aircraft which many people don’t own, I could see them taking on some payware aircraft also. The other bonus of going with a Carenado aircraft, over a “Deluxe” MSFS one, is that at least the customer can purchase the Carenado aircraft on an individual basis (rather than having to pay the ridiculous upgrade prices for the Deluxe / Premium Deluxe versions of the sim). I’ll be happy with whatever Black Square choose to do though and of course there might be licensing issues etc with adapting other payware products (although REP modded Carenado products in X-Plane). Hey, it’s probably just wishful thinking on my end haha XD It would indeed be even better if Carenado just went ahead and let someone else sort out the systems / flight modelling for them, but if they were willing to do that, I guess they would have done so by now ha (someone told me MILVIZ once reached out to Carenado for a collab and Carenado knocked them back!). The Black Square model seems to be working very well, but I am surprised they haven’t done more from scratch (other than the Velocity). It seems what they are doing, results in pretty quick turnarounds though, so I’m all for it! Now we just need someone to come in and “Black Square” the flight models of the Black Square products haha XD All the best! : )

    Hi Sheldon, I don’t have an answer for you on that per se, only that as mentioned in the video, the customisation of the flight model is fairly modest as compared with the systems overhaul (and Black Square do point this out themselves). It would be great to see a more detailed flight model of course, but that doesn’t seem to be a feature that Black Square are looking to provide. As I said to someone else, I think these products are more ideally suited to those that enjoy their systems simulations, as opposed to those who tend to focus more on the flight model. This is not meant to be critical but it will probably read that way. I have been flying MSFS 2020 since it was released. When trying to move up to more complex aircraft, it's difficult finding videos and instruction for beginners that are new to that particular aircraft. Most that I watch assume a fairly high level of knowledge in the aircraft that the video is about. The instructions are so "rapid fire" I find myself pausing and unpausing trying to understand what just happened and hoping I can duplicate it. It turns a 52 minute video into an hour and 52 minutes. Back to the 172 I guess.

    Hello Edward, Your comment doesn’t come across as critical and I can very much understand where you’re coming from. I can appreciate that it must be a little bit frustrating as a viewer and in an ideal world I would cater my videos to suit everyone, but unfortunately of course that is not possible. I tend to create videos / scenarios that are of interest to me, otherwise the whole creation process can become a bit of a grind. As a result, I tend to enjoy more “advanced” / complex scenarios, as I have been simming / flying for many years at this point. My channel tends to cater more towards “seasoned” simmers, but of course all are welcome! The above being said, I did create a beginners series some time ago (it’s old content, so you have to forgive it being a little more “rough around the edges” haha), so perhaps you might get some value out of that. I did plan to continue the series, but unfortunately there didn’t seem to be much interest in it: kzread.info/head/PLaI08doFZ-LIK-PAyRGF7NDZDM88FpOVp There are some other great KZread vids / tutorials out there also, Jonathan Beckett does a lot of basic startup tutorials for example. I managed to get around any CO2 poisoning; if the engines aren’t running, there aren’t any CO2 issues : P

    What makes you say that ENJJPT? The flight model isn’t study level, but I think the systems absolutely are. All the best

    Привет, Главное и единственное, что я могу здесь предложить, это убедиться, что у вас установлена последняя версия TDS GTNXi, это, безусловно, помогло мне с проблемами в прошлом, а также рекомендуется в руководстве по продукту. Я надеюсь, что это окажется полезным! Всего наилучшего : )
