From Bucharest to Bulgaria: 23 Hours in Little Vienna (Ruse)

In November 2022, I had the privilege of traveling to Romania and Bulgaria. I booked this trip about 1.5 weeks in advance of my departure and had little idea about what to expect. While I liked Bucharest, I wanted to branch out and explore the greater region. Ruse is the closest foreign city to Bucharest, so off I went.
Join me on this journey riding on a Siemens Desiro train operated by Romanian passenger train carrier CFR Călători from that country's busiest train station, Bucharest North, to Ruse, which is Bulgaria's fifth-largest city. I crammed a lot into the 23 hours I spent in Ruse. You'll also learn valuable tips to keep in mind for when you use CFR Călători trains and/or visit Ruse.

Between Christmas and Easter the Balkans are kind of dead... But in Bulgaria is nice to visit on 1 mars. They have this beautiful ancient holyday that has a more complex meaning. We have it in Romania too, we call it "mărțișor", but in Bulgaria they make it even better.

Not exactly, it's more like a "Ruse thing". Ruse sadly has seen much better days and is one of the least developed cities in Bulgaria nowadays. It's kind of a dead place all around the year, even though it has a lot of potential. Albeit I'm surprised why he didn't decide to visit more of Bulgaria - other cities like the capital Sofia or Plovdiv are absolutely different.

@@dwartbg1 It all came down to time constraints. Bulgaria is close enough to Bucharest that I wanted to say that I'd been to Bulgaria, but time wasn't such that I could venture farther to cities such as Plovdiv or Sofia. I agree that Ruse wasn't particularly exciting, but I still enjoyed my time there. Thanks for watching.

Ha, that would be fun! I'd likely run afoul of KZread's copyright protections if I did that. However, I learned recently that much of Borat was filmed in Romania. Thank you for watching.
