This is why I use back button focus. It's become second nature to me if I hold the AE-L button down its in continuous focus and if I let go it's in single focus.

Don't forget that most cameras (including mirrorless) have a focus adjustment setting somewhere in menu. If you notice your lens is constantly misfocusing, try calibrating it. It's a lot more likely to happen with DSLR lenses than mirrorless.

Hi Paul, I've got to say your videos are so helpful to me. When you spoke about Manual Focus in past videos they really helped me a lot. I was photographing through a fence that had an old Holden and i used AFS Focus point and couldn't understand why this stationary subject couldn't Focus. Next time i went out shooting through a fence i used Manual Focus. Your videos made a big difference in my photography. Many thanks Paul. 😊

I hate half press shutter button focus.. I always set up back button focus if at all possible. :). I have many cameras and when I am doing candid photos of friends or just quick snap shots of stuff I grab my lower cost canon that is all setup to work with a few different auto focus lenses .. Its quick and works decent when you are in a hurry :).. But if I am doing anything critical (Other then moving subjects) I always use manual focus and a tripod for the most sharpest I can get with the lens.. It really comes down to what you are taking pictures of :).. Thanks for sharing more tips ..

Hi Paul, with the Canon R6M2 and the RF 100-500MM I use the backbutton focus and the ☆-button for eyetracking. Also minimum 800/s - 1000/s shutter. For birds in flight up to 2000/s - 4000/s. For difficult situations when birds are in the busch I use the single point focus and for flight the 6 point or more. Greatings Leo

For me, this is what makes BBF difficult to use. I find BBF useful for portraits and focus and recompose situations.

I notice using back button focus I am slower especially for birds in fly. I try to make bird sharp first. Is gone. Any ideas?
