OntarioRedneXXX not worth ruining the value. One could build a replica Challenger from scratch using a Dynacorn body and not feel guilty about doing stunts or street racing it. I would probably throw the full subframe suspension under it and a 540 aluminum Hemi since I am fantasizing...

I don't know. There are cars from the 1980s and 1990s and even early 2000s that are going up in value. The key, IMO, is to buy what you like and then value is secondary, but there. I know many enthusiasts with 8-5 jobs with moderate incomes that build equity in their garages in their spare time and have collections into 6 figures. They are legion.

What's nice is you can buy steel frames authorized by the factories and build you a better Then what they built back then ! These cars are trailer queens or museum pieces not to be drove its kind of a shame in a way ! now you can put these cars together with factory authorized steel bodies and drive trains !! Then you don't have to worry about the miles you put on it !! We are living in some of the best days to have hot rods or build hot rods !!

1978 I had a job washing dishes for $ 2.10 an hour. The local used car dealer had a 1969 Dodge Daytona for $1900.00 dollars. The hood and drivers door were different colors and the motor was a 318 with a 904 automatic transmission. The man at the dealers said they blew the motor up and they sold the drivetrain, hood and door to another person and traded it in like that. My dad kept me from buying that Weird car. It had that God awful wing on the back and that stupid looking front end. Plus someone had monkied with it, he said. I remind him of that every time we watch the Mecum car auctions.

I and my uncle kick ourselves constantly about that. As I grew uo in the 80s i had many gtx and 67 cuda an a 66 charger alomg with my first car a 72 charger. I had them all at once over time amd didnt go home for a while and my mother called the junk yard to pick them all up. Needless to say on my way to her house I saw my car on a flat bed and chased them down. They had all paperwork amd nothi h i could do. Yes i love my mom amd dont blame her but i planned on saving everyone an i would have been set. I miss them amd never bought abother dodge. Hurts too much. Couldnt believe i was driving to her house the time my last car was leaving. No cell phones then so she couldnt get ahold of me. Love these cars an im 52 now but found other hobbies that cost me money instead of investment wise. Great vis appreciate the trrp down memory lane.

I got a model car of the hemi cuda, plum crazy back when I was 11. I've wanted one ever since, but have only got more models of them hahaha. My buddy has a 70 dart since he was in high school, rebuilt a few times, but about 13 or so years ago he did a full restoration. Blueprinted engine from the original 340, now and 620hp at flywheel n/a. It is show car quality focused build, with no expense.Viper green painted on rotisserie. Even the under side has 3 or 4 coats of clear. Truly a beautiful build. He finally finished it this year and took me for a rip, I was like a little school girl hahaha. Now hes got a road runner with a fresh built 440. Can not wait to go for a boot in that one. Great video buy the way.

Very nice video! The caption of this video caught my eye because I wanted to buy a 1970 hemi-cuda in the mid 70's that was for sale for $1900. The car was in Thousand Oaks, CA, was white with white top, blue interior, non-shaker hood (the shaker was supposedly in the garage), slap-stick 727, and factory installed air conditioning. The seller told me that the original owner was a doctor in Arizona who had the car shipped to Detroit for the air. The second owner was supposedly the crew chief of Don Prudhomme who blue printed the engine. The problem was that I only had $1500 and my dad wouldn't lend me the $400 I was short. He said, "cars never appreciate." A few years later (around 1979), I found the same white hemi-cuda in Anaheim Hills, CA, for sale for $6000. I have no idea where that car is today or how much it's worth, but after missing out on the $1900 hemi-cuda, I ended up buying an AAR Cuda for $1500 and drove it as a daily driver for 20 years. Today, I'm retired and just took delivery of a Superformance GT40 with a 560hp Roush 427 -- so yes, I still play with cars :)

No hemi car came from the factory with A/C ever. Every hemi came with dual quads and with the factory A/C compressor mounted on the motor on the front top of the engine and there was no way to mount the compressor with a dual quad set up. Same thing applies to six pack setups. No factory shaker hood set up would fit either. I have heard that a few 4 barrel carb equipped motors came with shakers but no A/C either. I have never seen a proven car with this set up so I may be wrong about 4 barrel and shaker set up.

CL600Sport The Don Prudomme connection makes sense. I used to serve see them or serve them when I was a waiter in the later 80s and early 90s at Marie Callender's restaurant in Northridge. The team had a shop nearby. They were impressed I knew drag racing and Prudomme. Dick Landy's shop was in Northridge as well. A little off topic but proves the few degrees of separation in the Mopar world and a nearby Hemi Cuda, lol.

I remember Mr. Badalson from back when and got a smile when he referred to that used car lot in Woodbridge, VA because I knew the one he's talking about; that's some of my old stomping grounds in the late 70's/early 80's. Thanks for seeking Frank out - he's a living treasure trove of reference material for our cars. Given what he and Roger Gibson know and data they've amassed, they could put THE reference manual out on these cars in chronological order of what car, this or that plant, that option or this method of production. Their knowledge cannot be lost to the hobby and I hope they consider doing so!

These are survivor cars, not fully restored and full of aftermarket or repro parts. Plenty of restos non-matching cars to take out and run the snot out of, without the huge financial risk or risk of loosing a true survivor that can be enjoyed and used as reference for other restorations. If you want to just go out and rip shit up in a Hemi, head to your local Dodge dealer, buy one new off the lot and have at it, it will be faster and better in every way compared to the originals, with the exception of looks maybe, and you can total 5 of them for the same price as a true survivor car. But I totally get your point, it would be awesome!

The car was making my blood boil as it was sitting there in front of my neighbors house, I still remember the sound that was coming out of the mufflers it was like a thunder storm on steroids, and the color would knock your eyes out a lime green with wide black etched striping all down the side and all I could do was look and stare and picture myself behind the wheel of that outstanding car, and that gave me hope there are better things ahead for a boy like me with vision's of things to come . But those days have came and gone, my father had just retired from from the military just a few years earlier in 1968 after coming home from Nam with 20 years of service under his belt and I was glad he was home. Needless to say I have never sit or drove behind the wheel of A cuda I so admired some 46 years later and prob never will, but a least I have the memory's.

Ryan Anderson It’s a 440 CI (7.2 liter) carbureted V8. Of course it’s not good on gas. Fuel injection and other modern technological advancements have improved mpg overall, but 16 is not bad considering all the factors.

Robert E Lee ,,, Hi Rob, In the seventies I bought a 1971 Charger RT/ 440 magnum/ flip headlights/ posi-trac/ auto with a slap stick shifter/ cassette deck mounted on end of the console. I bought it for 1200$ because the guy blew the engine. Being a machinist I tore the engine down and found out it had 30 over trw pop up pistons and a few other goodies. 12 mpg on the highway. Every other day I got pulled over by the cops just so they could look at it! Awesome car and I would love to find it.

I had a 1970 340 4 speed 4 barrel great car. Bought it in 1978 for 1000.00 perfect shape 45k miles. Also had a 711/2 Road Runner 440 that just happened to be Jeff Bodines in 1979 if only I would have kept that one. This is a sweet car but this guy has an ego bigger than Texas and California put together.

I'm not a big Mopar fan. But I'm a muscle car fanatic. When I lived in Prairie du Chein, Wisconsin. I got a job as a Service manager at the local Goodyear shop. It was called Halpins. My 3rd day there I met Galen Govier. He had a 02 blue dodge dually diesel. I didn't have any techs to give him a ride back to his shop. He was dropping off his truck for service. We started talking about cars. I had no idea who this guy was. I learned VERY quickly who.he was lol. And one helluva nice guy. And he owns some bad ass mopars himself lol. If you don't know who Galen is, you should.

My dad had a few of those back in the 70's while stationed in Hawaii. 70 cuda 426ci 6pac attack, and a 69' as well. In mint condition with cover on and wheels stored... my parents divorced while my dad was still in the Navy and my mom sold them both for 10K back in early 80s...took my dad 30 years to get over that. He was really mad when he saw what they sold for in 2006. I still remember that day lol

Wow great video...in 1975 I bought a 1970 340 'Cuda pistol grip 4 speed from a co-worker for $1,100. Red on black. That's the one I would go back for if'n only I could! I had a 1971 AAR Hemi 'Cuda a couple years later but it had been through the ringer and I spent as much time under the damn thing as I did driving it. Where is it at now, "blown up sir!" surprised I didn't walk with a limp then as my right foot was so much bigger than my left...

I thought that the 1970 Hemi cuda offered the shaker scoop in 5 colours to match the car as shown in the early Ads of the red Hemi cuda with red Scoop. There were also about 7 colours for the 71 cuda that matched the car when the single mirror was upgraded to dual rally mirrors . FORD had the 69 BOSS 429 with matching scoop but after complaints over the paint touch ups from chips in the scoop , the 1970 BOSS 429 used Black only scoups .

Mark worman is very highly regarded in the mopar world. Anyone tells ya different they are just jealous. He puts cars on the road that most would just let rot or part out, as a matter of fact hes built some chopped up parts cars and theyre back to a show stopper as close to original as possible. The man loves mopars & it shows. Sure he's a goof on the show but it's good to have fun.

Tuning was the trick. Multiple carburetors and some of the other exotic setups got exotic problems that the average mechanic didn't know how to fix. My dad owned a gas station in the late '60s and early '70s, his partner was a gearhead who knew how to tune. They had a guaranteed clientele not only of American muscle cars but also foreign makes like V12 Jaguars. One of the common fixes they did on Jags was to change out the Jaguar alternator to a GM Delco alternator. Those Jags ate alternators and the factory replacement was obscenely expensive.

We did get an australianised dodge dart hardtop for 69 and 70 though. My alltime favourite mopar is the valiant chargers of 71/72. Best version: Charger R/T with the E-49 engine option 265 hemi inline 6 with triple 45mm webbers, 4 speed. Was the fastest accelerating aussie production car for 25 years until 1997. Some touted it as the world's fastest six cylinder when new, but I can't confirm that one.

Hey Jerry... Beautiful Survivor HemiCuda..!! I really enjoy seeing Survivors of all kinds..! I have seen a few originals with low miles and many fakes in Northern California. Many Original Hemi cars needed valve adjustments, timing and carb tweeking. My original 1969 RAIV Judge (purchased for $300. out of a Fresno junk yard) usually will pass most Hemis unless they are tuned correctly. And like always.. the original tires cannot handle the torque.....
