Frodo and the Fox

@danielsmithbooks recently made a post on Instagram about a sentient fox that appears briefly in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Fellowship of the Ring". The Fox stumbles upon a sleeping Frodo and his companions in chapter 3, "Three is Company", and Tolkien describes what the fox ponders. Daniel asks, "Why a fox, why not a horse, or a beetle, or a bald eagle?" I was so delighted to be reminded of this obscure passage and fascinated by the question, that I decided to make this video of that curious encounter. Follow Daniel on Instagram to see his original post, read his thoughts on the question, and share your own.

Fellowship is my favorite LoTR book. I particularly enjoyed the first half, before they get to Rivendale. Thanks for bringing this snippet to life!
