This was so helpful, thank you! i had watched other videos that involved removing the drum and I didn't relish the idea but then when I opened the dryer and saw that the wiring up top was different, I panicked. Your careful guidance of which screws to remove and which to avoid was SO helpful. And I laughed out loud at the advice to hold the lint trap when removing the single screw. Advice well-given! My old heating element looked just like yours!

I just did mine and your vid was fantastic because I have the same model and element. The little pain in the ass screw is so much easier with the dryer tilted way back. I had my kid hold it. I used a 1/4 drive ratchet with a Phillips bit. Couldn't get it with the little screwdriver. Was too tight. Definitely mark those gray wires. The re-installation of that screw goes very easy with the dryer tilted and a horizontal line through the center of the tiny hole on the new element to have a visual landmark for alignment. Excellent vid. 😁👍

Thank you for the instructions. One important thing other viewers should pay attention to is when unplugging the connectors from the old heating element, be careful and patient. The prongs of the sensors could break, and it would take you a few days for the replacement part to arrive to complete your job. Good luck!

Good advice! Never abuse electronic components.

My tip: the back screw seems to be everyone’s Achilles heal. So what I did, as soon as I took the new element out of the box - I took the screw for the back hole and screwed it in and out several times. This basically “tapped” the hole and made for starting it when in position so much easier. Did it on the first try. Start to finish on entire job, 45 minutes. Hope this helps.

If you shine a light through the front end of the heating element after you have it in place, it will illuminate that tiny screw hole in the back, like that old Lite Brite toy from the 70's. It's very easy then to see the tiny hole lighting up and makes it easy to line up. I discovered this yesterday by accident while using your video for the repair using my phone flashlight.

Good video brother. I did mine about a 2 months ago...... When I did I tool the drum out too. I did everything except plug in the black negative wire back up. It fried that wire and my motherboard and the 220 breaker in my breaker box. Now I am repairing the motherboard. I knew it was unplugged. Seen it just forgot to plug it back up. Be glad you did not do that lol Now I am basically rebuilding the whole dryer top to bottom.

Great vid. Thanks. That screw in the back of the heater element was a square drive on my unit. Not sure who was the sadist designer, but you should check the head for drive type. I shoved my phone in there and took a pic.

Great video, really helped me tackle this project. I do have a tip regarding those hard to reach screws. Particularly that back of the element one. I did take the advice of using one of the element screws from the old unit. I added one more idea, I screwed it into the new element before I started the install. I was also having trouble getting the screws for the sensor and thermostat into the the new element; so I pre-seated each of those four and that made a big difference. maybe this will help someone else tacking this project.

The last time I replaced this, I removed the drum and it took a very long time. This time I followed your lead, but it took a long time to get that one screw out. Fortunately I replaced it with a hex head so next time should be much faster. I didn't have the same problems you did because I used a #10 screw instead of a 1/4.

Well done video - thanks for all the effort! Saved me a ton of time figuring out how to disassemble the dryer and get to the place I needed to be. Got the heater assembly out and found my coils and support plate looked a LOT like yours - bent at the end, AND some of the coils were indeed touching the inside of the tube. E63 earth ground was exactly right. ALso found that there was a break in one of the center coils, so the thing was doomed. Got a new one on order and it should be a breeze to put it in (except for those three screws holding the heater unit in place! XD) Thanks again! P.S. Only only got $0.37 of change out of mine! LOL

our dryer has gone thru several of these heating elements. My wife ran across an article about the filter screen needing cleaned with soap and water because if you use fabric sofener it will coat the fine screen and restrict airflow and cause the heating element to run hotter causing early failure. if your filter screen has trouble passing water from kitchen faucet then use soap and water to clean until water will pass freely

Bro, thank you for this comment. I swapped my heating element tonight and I remembered seeing this comment and tried running water through my lint screen. Barely allowed any water through, it was spilling up and over the top edges. I cleaned with some warm water and dish soap, and after the water went right through. I'm sure that wasn't helping the dryer do its job efficiently.

I found the broken burnt wire pretty quickly inside the tube. They were jacked up.

Removing the front bulkhead and drum makes that job a lot easier.

As I was able to pull my machine out into a clear workspace, I just took off the back cover to access that difficult back screw...WAY EASIER and only a little more work (~12 screws), easier to clean the back and you don't need to touch the drum...at least on my very similar model. (procedure identical but front panel on ours has more buttons).

So that is where the black wire goes..interesting. The three individual heating coil each has its own wire but share one return wire which is the black wire. Time frame 15:28. The black wire is not live when turning the dryer timer on or the door closed. It only comes on when the motor is operating, implying that it getts connected when the centrifugal switch kicks out at full motor running speed. If the motor is not turning the heating element is off. Clever? Clever is as clever does.

I took mine apart without knowing how to put the wires back in how can i know the difference. In the front all of my wires are gray and the pink one one side in longer than the other I've already move those around and it still saying e71

Just curious, was there no error code reset stage necessary for this particular model? You just exchanged the element, and ran great afterwards?

No, I didn't have to reset anything. The error code went away and it ran great. I have since replaced the blower fan because it also failed and with a new fan and new element it works even better!

@@gizmoflyslow9854 thank you, I spoke with a "certified" appliance repairman, and he said my issue may not be the element but the thermostats. My dryer still heats very good, just shuts system down after 15 minutes and displays error code. I cleaned the thermostats, the 2, I found, they were covered in lint. Still errors out, and hate to replace the elements when it still heats very well.

My dryer is a 2011 and has the steam option. Everything seemed identical until I got to me getting to the heating element. Now I'm stuck.

According to one site: E65 = High limit thermostat trip count too high. In other words, you probably have a restricted air flow problem. Your blower will shut down if your plugged up with lint. I would suggest you check to make sure your vent opening and vent duct hose is not kinked behind the dryer. Good luck!

I would only be guessing. Ours were about 10 years old when we replaced them late last year. Unfortunately, they make SO many models and they all look very similar. Best bet would be to ask the seller to send you a picture of the model numbers and then do a Google search. Good luck!

never again. what a piece of junk dryer. the heating element has gone out for the 3rd time in 3 years. No kids. Hardly any laundry. horrible product !!!!!!

You gots bad apple. I have wife and kid and we have run ours for 10 years and just now having heating element issue. May be the service tech or the heating element quality.
