Yep, he learn that defensive magic spell fern cast by just one look. Imagine he will develop more powerful spell to penetrate to that defensive magic. Without Frieren and the others, Qual will unstoppable

Time left him behind. That's one of my favourite fantasy tropes. Beings blessed with longevity living at their own pace, only to discover that the world moved on without them and the things they knew are no longer so.

Ya. He built a super versatile spell essential for all mages and could analyze weakness of the defensive spell and put into action in seconds. In a sense, he’s a mentor of all mages of that time

Good thing they killed him early, it's scary how fast he adapted to the newly developed defensive magic by knowing how high the mana cost to cast it.

I love when the reactors realized what the sour grapes spell was for.

I love that they use Fern’s aging and growth to give us a good idea on how much time as has passed.
