too many times in an anime or any story you will see the characters talking about how amazing a character/hero was, who already RiP'ed. a certain "he" or certain "she". but in brief flashbacks that you get glimpse of him/her, of these "legacy" characters, they kinda fall flat or dont seem that amazing or dont live up to the hype at all i expected Himmel to be like this too. but i was ded wrong. the writer did his character themes justice. himmel is how long gone in universe legacy characters should be handled. every flashback you get to see him is further confirmation of him being 10/10 chad and characters praising him were right. he is him. it is incredible

Yes, I do imagine that Tolkien would have been much more fond of Frieren than most modern fantasy. So many stories that followed in his mold quickly discarded the core themes that made LOTR so compelling and just opted for power fantasies instead. Odd, because if there is one overriding theme in LOTR, it is that power is fundamentally dangerous and corrosive, even to those with ostensibly good intentions. It isn't exactly subtle on that point.

The best think is still the naming of the charakters and places. As a German its always kinda hilarius to hear the new names. For example the two exam Mages "Genau" and "Sense" were named after the German Words for "exactly" and "scythe". The hero "Himmel" is "heaven" and the Party ist traveling throug the town "Äußerst" that is best translated to "the very edge" to a place called "Ende" meaning "ending". It is realy funny to explain the Story in German. 😂

I'm dutch and the names are really awkward for me too 😭😭there's a city or region called waal which is literally a dutch river, something called vorig (previous), and eisen is just 'to demand' for me (i know in german it's iron or something). then we have actual characters named 'to think' and 'landslide' 😭. I know these names most likely don't mean anything to the average japanese manga reader so they're perfect fantasy names, but when your native language is german, dutch, danish etc it becomes funny. i still love this anime tho

@@juanthegreat3954 I have a pet theory about the Hero's Sword: It was a fake from the beginning. It's not MEANT to be drawn, by anyone. Hell, it's probably screwed into the platform. The POINT of making people fail to draw it is to weed out those weak souls that rely on external validation. Himmel defeated the Demon King because despite all his posing, he is fueled by INTERNAL validation. "I'll defeat the Demon King anyway, with a fake sword." THAT'S the kind of Hero you want. Not someone who does it for the fame or the reward. They do it because it's the right thing to do. It's also the reason why despite being in love with Frieren, he doesn't push. He's content to holding the love in his heart, unrequited.

Can someone tell me why frieren is popular other than i don't get it that show is boring and before you say i like action i drop jjk, demon slayer i watch the first season and movie then drop and i also drop chainsaw man because i feel bored watching those shows i like more substance in my show and i thought frieren was going to be this incredible story about life and whatnot but it is executed poorly it's like an incomplete concept.i would recommend to your eternity which i think is better than frieren in delving into the themes of how it feels to be essentially an immortal and no just because something is realistic doesn't mean that it's good.vinland saga season 2 didn't have action and it is one of the best story written in fiction it's realistic but also entertaining in a way and knows when not to be realistic.frieren is not bad but it's nothing amazing either but people act as if it's this masterpiece but it's shallow it's like the whole she's an elf that is pretty much immortal and doesn't feel time the same way that humans do and learning to understand it is to make her interesting but doesn't really want to delve into it which is fine if the story and characters weren't so boring the worldbuilding is just your generic fantasy world with a bit of twist, the character designs are nothing special its not bad but also pretty generic, the story doesn't know what it's trying to be,the characters are pretty generic especially stark he is just a coward with a heart of gold character that you see in other anime i like zenitsu more than him but honestly i like zenitsu in general.the story, characters and world feel shallow i feel like I've been gaslit to like this show so i keep watching but man it feels boring and uneventful.i feel that nothing interesting is happening.there never once an emotional scene that made me feel anything or a dialogue that stick to me like i have no enemies

i think this anime is so good because a lot of people in the world feel lost in their life and this anime helps remind people that you only have a limited time on this planet. the relationships we forge with others is so important that almost nothing else matters. its very up lifting for people who are trying to find and make connections with others but feel the same way as frieren and want to make that change to be a better person but just don't know if its all worth it in the end because of the fear people now have of others from when we were all locked inside our houses for a few years. IMO this show will help some people pick up the broken pieces they feel and put them back into place and help them to move on and live life to its fullest.

the best way of saying it in a nutshell is that Frieren is not an anime, it's a message or you could say that frieren is basically an anime version of meditations by Marcus Aurelius. Honestly this anime has given me so much needed and interesting life lesson that I barely able to enjoy it as an anime, but more of a "wise someone that gives you a couple of philosophical and life lesson without them knowing." I cherish frieren for the amount of stuff I could potentially apply in real life situations, especially as the things that frieren learns are something that very naturally happens irl. So I do hope that frieren would be able to influence more and more medias to be as mature and interesting as frieren is!

The most eloquent is the dance scene. In the manga, it's a single page. A single frigging page. Sometime it's the details that go unreasonably hard, in the manga frieren wasn't flying when she zoltraak'ed qual, in the anime she did. Why? Because 5 episodes later you learn humans an eleves couldn't fly back in qual's day so ofc frieren would use that to her advantage. Or frieren vs the clone in the latest episode where you see frieren firing a black zoltraak... Why? Because back in the qual fight you remember him using a black zoltraak, the human killing zoltraak, this fight is one big showcase of frieren's bottomless power and knowledge of magic, using the OG zoltraak is the equivalent flexing on these kiddos. This is the most 11/10 adaptation i've seen in a long time.

Methode is just a mature woman around 30 years old who's just very sure of herself and what she can and can't do. She's basically a jack of all trades. But master of none. She's not the strongest mage, but she's competent enough to be a first class mage. Plus she's able to use priest class magic to just as competent a degree as regular magic. So she's the perfect girl for Sein. Unfortunately he didn't stick around, lol. Poor Sein.

Your original Frieren video introduced me to the series and it's now my #1. I'm current on the manga and own all of the English volumes that are released so far which is not something I typically do for an ongoing manga, I typically like to buy them complete. Watching this get adapted and to such a high degree has been a blast, thank you again for introducing me to the wonderful series.

This is one series that I'm never going to forget and I've been watching anime for many years. I love the world that they built up and the power system and how creative it can be. Also it's amazing how the little moments can leave such an impression on your mind and how we should all be appreciating them more. This is also one of the only anime I've ever watched that actually had me tearing up at the ending song and animation. It's really beautiful and showing how she overcame her grief of losing her friends but made new ones to fill that hole and can continue on with some sort of purpose. The show is a lot deeper than I expected and I really appreciate it for it.

The attention to detail is insane in this anime, the animation is amazing, and the story is well written. I don’t understand why we can’t have more serious with mature and well written characters like this. No high pitched characters voices, no super Unnecessary nudity, no crappy animation, pure love into this series. Some scenes for example, stark is putting on his jacket, fern sitting on the stool, and so forth just have such amazing animation. Amazing fight scenes, not even that long but I love to see the stunning visuals, the swing and parries of weapons that feel like they have wait to them. I am extremely in love with this series and can’t wait to see more of it.

To be fair, there are a lot of those shows you're asking for. It's just that they can at times get drowned out by the more flashy and mainstream shows, just look at the recent awards. Most of the time those more mature shows do get the popularity they deserve though. Vinland Saga or AoT for example. I guess both of these shows did start out flashy and slowly became more mature but you know what I mean. I was planning to compile a little list of more mature and well written shows but as I was doing so I realized that there literally are too many I would have to name.

Whereas each season we get dozens of poorly conceived and produced nonsense shows, and a few alright shows, that no one remembers. This is most anime content we get these days. For those interested, I'd recommend some of my favorites, which often has more thought and care put into it than other more generic anime: Boogiepop wa Warawanai (2019) Sonny Boy (2021) Mob Psycho (2016-2022) Dororo (2019) Ousama Ranking (2021) Odd Taxi (2021) Wonder Egg Priority (2021) Deca-Dence (2020)

11:53, Chapter 1: The Starkening As Stark graced the coffee shop with his presence, Fern began to get the feeling that she wuv wuv wuved him. God I wish I was playing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth right now. Why did Garnt have to spring this on us the day it came out? Anyway, Stark made like a true gentleman and tipped his fedora at Fern, uttering that single glorius word that would make any woman fall in love: "milady." Just then, the entire café fell silent, and Fern took the opportunity to seductively whisper the words she'd forever wanted her ginger lover to hear right into his cute little ear: "Stark, I believe there is an imposter among us in this café."

I think part of what gives it so much weight is not just how "innocent" and detached Frieren is at the start, but that it doesn't matter who you are, there is people who will come into your life and be big enough that you cant even process everything they have conveyed to you, and changed in you, how much they have impacted every fiber of your being until they have left, and the cycle comes around again. It's not just about gratitude while they still exist in your life, because you will never trully know how far reaching their influence is on you while they still stand beside you. It's only when you are with others, and you find yourself remembering those moments with them and trying to live how they would have lived, or at least loved people and the world in a way that both honors them, and honors who you are as a person that you realize how much of your heart they take up. That they planted a field of flowers around your heart that wouldn't come into full flower, until long after they left your side. They had been such a bright vivid and open flower next to you, so much so, that you didn't realize the seed they planted within you in that time

Frieren and her journey to process her loss and her love for her fellow comrades really woke me up. What really hit me hard was that she has always looked at her time with those she loved in a hopeful light, never sadness. The crazy production with insane fights have never been what made Frieren good, it's always been the quiet and somber moments where she basks in the lights of her memories. The moments where she learns to ground herself to those around her and learn more about her current party. Frieren is just so sentimental and beau tiful.

Great video! One of my favorite shows, it's absolutely a masterclass in reflection and "what my history means". Though I would like to suggest that the series absolutely has a strong "need" driving it forward: *knowing and being known*. Because of Frieren's history, she NEEDS to understand others, to understand her past. But it's not just her, all the other characters do this, in their own way. If you keep this idea in mind, you will see it in every episode, almost every scene, that it's hard to understand another person, but the effort required is very much worth it. I'll say it again in a different way: almost every character (and especially Frieren) gives a "first impression" that is either mysterious or just misleading. A character seems cruel but is soft-hearted, or seems emotionless but is in turmoil, or is a "pacifist" but somehow even more terrifying. It often leads to characters "looking back" through flashbacks, to understand the true motivations and identities of the characters. It's even established that, in this magical world, correctly understanding your opponent is a matter of life and death. Over and over again people underestimate, misunderstand, or get an advantage based on how much they really know the other person. The quieter interpersonal relationships of the main characters are mirrored or contrasted by the various motivations of the other characters, especially the mages. SPOILERS START: One of the most revealing and amazing episodes is when Frieren created a spell to burst through a powerful magic dome. The scene in animated in an absolutely stunning way, but even more amazing is that we see something of what Frieren cares about, because as she casts it, she says, "magic should be free". It's almost like you see her core motivation finally laid bare, and it's in stark contrast to the "magic hoarding" of the person who create the magic dome. The scene is powerful because it's the perfect combination of the show's theme, the visual spectacle, and narrative climax. What an episode. SPOILERS END It's an unforgettable show and, as Gigguk also said, I think I'm a better person for having watched it. I can't wait to watch it again.

I can relate so much with Frieren during the sunrise scene. Whenever the year starts anew and hundreds of fireworks are being blasted into the air, I can't stop to "not" enjoy it. Even though it's occurring every year again and again, people are all celebratory and crazy about the earth having made a 360° once again which makes me shrug at it all, I again cannot stop enjoying the moment when it *does* arrive. And when I look around and see that I am surrounded by friends or family, which I was hesitant to celebrate with in the first place (I'm not big on crowds), I feel happy. I feel satisfied and also just- loved. It's a weird feeling to describe and it's probably only possible to truly understand how Frieren would've felt if you felt it for yourself. That's how relatable Frieren is. And that's how deep it hits. It keeps you grounded. Definitely the best show I've ever seen.

Fairy Tale usually end with Happily Ever After, yet that Happily Ever After is exactly where the true story begin which I'm interested in. Sometimes, it is a thriller plot twist where the MCs turn out to be actually evil or doesn't age well as time passed like Maleficient or AoT. Sometimes, it is about handling and resolving the aftermath of the previously overflattering presumingly glorious event such as Cap A Civil War or BvS or Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse Sometimes, it is a soothing epilogue that address all those easter eggs we have overlooked during our initial journey like Frieren did.

I think this is one of the first shows I have ever been so hyped for and that broke every single expectation I had for it. The amount of love and care that was put into every single frame in this anime really shows. The music, the art, the animation, everything down to simple things like the sounds of footsteps on leaves or the fluttering of clothes in the wind all results in some of the most breathtaking scenes I have ever watched in an anime. The biggest thing I can hope for now is that if there is a second season, which seems very likely with just how popular it is, that it gets the same amount love and care put into it as the first season.

I think second season is guaranteed since TOHO is producing this series (every toho project that have successful launch always received second season) but my only hope is for the core staff to comeback. I was worried about this since saito (the director) probably going to get busy with bocchi S2. But only time will tell. I think core staff like reiko nagasawa (character designer) and tooru iwasawa (the action director and reiko husband) will surely comeback. Kouki fujimoto and vercreek was also going to be back if the schedule was clear (both are a big fan of the manga). But fukushi never make Season 2 is concerning. But frieren has another influential producer too like nakame. So i think not having fukushi connection is not really that concerning

There's just a certain thing with the current exam arc. We all enjoy Frieren as it is but we also occasionally got some sprinkles of sugar put on our lips; a little taste of what Frieren's power is. And after this "long", yet fleeting journey, we get to see what she's got in her arsenal. And while the combat animations weren't necessary for this series, they absolutely deliver (especially in the latest episode 26). Greatest anime of the year that may turn into a modern classic people will look back to for years to come. And for certain one I'll go back to once in a while to settle down on a cold winter day. It's a masterpiece for sure. Brilliantly written, from dialogue, to themes, to general structure. It also has a surprising amount of subtlety in characterisation, and doesn't spoonfeed to you every feeling or thought a character has, or go overboard explaining a situation. There's actually space to read between the lines. Some of these even come from little character animations that give away what they might actually be thinking. On top of that, it's got very well animated fight scenes, and the music is top-notch. Not a bad word to say about it.

I really like this take. When I first heard about Frieren's portrayal of time and relationships, I thought it sounded really good, but not something I'd like to watch. But the series is SO much more than it's incredible portrayal of time. It's also a beautiful and well-written classical fantasy series. What I particularly like is how refreshing it is. Humans, for once, are typically pretty good people. Even the "rude" guards who stop the main party from entering a town are shown to be strict, but firm, simply doing their jobs. People are just going about their lives and typically wish well for each other. The series doesnt focus on showing the dark and twisted side of humanity, but rather on the good side - which is actually what we all see and take for granted imo. And the demons arent just some misunderstood humanoid race that humanity hates for no reason. They are actual predators that dont think like humans. You cant reason with them. So many stories focus on the whole "human bad, demons misunderstood" trope, but the classical fantasy stories were more about the goodness of humanity and overcoming obstacles rather than showing how shitty we all are. I like that Frieren pays homage to that.

And aside from the emotional aspect, in which it completely dominates right now. There's the animation, and sure there's the flashy sparkles, the dimension-contorting super flashy, REALLY COOL animation. But what really matters, what no other show spends this much time on... is the little things. Just like the story, there's insane focus on the clothes, hair, small gestures, expressions, movement, mannerisms, and more. Clothes and hair move the way you expect them to in calm, windy, and fighting environments, they flow with the character as if we're watching a real person. Everything in this anime is carefully crafted so as to leave a striking, REAL impression. Everything is cared for. The voice acting goes without speaking 😶‍🌫 Edit: Garnt did in fact touch on this at 12:00, I'm sorry for speaking.

You only partially mentioned it, but one of my favorite parts is the animation. One good example of what I'll talk about you actually show at around 11:30. There's so much detail in that one small scene that I wouldn't be surprised if they used motion capture, and that's not the only time it feels like that. Motion capture might be seen as an easier way out by some, but to me it means they're willing to use more money to pay someone to act out things like clenching their fist, small details that usually get overlooked, just because they feel like it. It might make the overall animation "easier" in some cases, but that's extra money spent on something most people would consider pointless and I think it goes to show the love the team puts into this series. And to top it all off, the animation has remained constant throughout the 26 episodes that have aired as of right now, and to anyone who's seen episode 26, just imagine how much time and money was spent on the 5-6 minutes you see Frieren fighting.

The timing that this video came out by one of my favorite content creators is immaculate, I have just recently started Sousou no Frieren (by that I mean a week ago), and I've completely fallen in love with it. Everything about this anime was amazing, it gave me a greater appreciation of what time is, it changed the perspective of my life and gave me a reason to push on through life to really do appreciate and recognize those who appreciate me as a person. I've had a really tough couple of weeks as life is pushing a greater weight on my shoulders, I was at loss of where my life is directing. But the reason why Frieren saved me was given during the first episode, when Frieren says, "Why didn't I get to know him better?". Oh boy did that hit me straight in the gut. It really did make me reflect on my life, and of course, I binge watched it to the very most recent episode. I personally believe that Frieren will stay at that top spot of anime of all time for me, and that doesn't apply to everyone, nor am I pushing that spot to anyone else. It's just a beautiful anime of bittersweet emotions, excellently portrayed by scenes of the past. Especially the scenes with Himmel and Frieren, they never fail to bring a tear to my eye. A different pace, storytelling and situations resonating with the viewer on a fundamental level. As a 35y old veteran with over 25y watching anime, this one easily earned a place amongst my top 3.
