Yep, the writers definitely knew how to rip off the bandaid. It still gave you a mixed taste. Sure it was funny, but perhaps it went also a bit too far in both of their reaction. Especially that of Rachel and the way in which she was continuing to behave during the following episodes. Going on for too long. The Prom Video was still nice though.

True. It still had a magic touch indeed. In season four and beyond, with the decision to fixate on their on- and off-relationship, Friends went back to the simple generics of life. Had the decision been made to further *explore* more meaningful areas in their relationship instead of always resorting to slapstick comedy with the "we were on a break" argument etc. it might have been different.

Yeah, definitely season one, two and three until the disappointing decision by the writers to *fixate* on breaking up Rachel & Ross. They should have written Rachel to give Ross a second chance, working out their issues and helping each other grow. Speaking from both a comedic and realistic point of view. Not making it so dysfunctional & unhealthy as it came to be, which eventually became the only major flaw in the show. I wonder how it would have been if their relationship was functional and exploring areas deeper in their relationship.

@@dvchel tho I agree with u , I think their dysfunctional relationship brought so much fame to the show. Even today they are still known as one of the best on screen couples. The on and off relationship kept the viewership intact and I think the producers got greedy so they went on with the idea of keeping them apart until s10. They should have worked on them getting back together prior to s7/s8 with the show eventually ending with them moving to Paris. Still I think the chemistry bt Ross and Rachel was top notch whether they were a couple or not.

@dvchel chandler and monica had that relationship. Ross and Rachel was another kind of relationship when ppl have feelings for each other and they dont know. They dated many people after breakup but whenever they are about to loose other person, they realise they love each other. Relationships are perfect when ppl are mature which is not always a case. That is why alot of people could relate to them.

Monica thinking she’s gonna forgive him and getting all emotional onto for Rachel to completely go the opposite way is amazing

This scene is perfect and the song is perfect. The moment the beat started my heart skipped a beat and I knew I was in love with the pairing.

Hilarious scene. Though I can't help but feel kinda bad for Ross.

Heartbreak is difficult to watch indeed.

Ross couldn't decide whether he wanted to be with Rachel or some other girl, so he made a list of pros and cons of each. The list was later found by Rachel.

It was Chandler's character who made the list. Joey was the one to mention she was a waitress and had chubby ankles etc. Even though I understand for the comedic aspect why the writers did it, they still took it a bit too far in eying on Rachel's reaction and condemning Ross. Mainly because it epitomizes the dysfunctional & unhealthy aspect of their relationship.

And it wasnt even ross who wanted to make the list, it was joey and chandler who told him to do so and chandler printed the list for some reason and didnt destroy the evidence

This song is very beautiful by its own means. It is even bigger than an old tv show.

Oh come on, how old are you? They were HUGE since the 80s. Long before Friends. Maybe for the generations after Gen X, I don't know, but U2 was huge with Gen X and even Boomers long before friends.

usually radio stations had easy to remember numbers for people to call in for song requests, people would know them if they listened to that radio station a lot.

I don't know, radio stations in the 80s and 90s were pretty popular and everyone had their favorite station. If Ross called the station she most listened to its almost guaranteed she would know the number. Most of the big stations would take requests and almost every Gen Xer would be calling every night.

This is the way to do comedy.. the subject of the scene is kind of sad - Rachel rejecting Ross’s make up overture ( and who hasn’t had that happen to them) but the way it’s done is friggin’ hilarious

This was when he reluctantly made that pros and cons list of Rachel vs Julie. Personally I think Rachel overreacted. The only con of Julie was “she’s not Rachel” but unfortunately that was misspelled to “she’s not Rachem” Rachel didn’t even give Ross a second to explain what that meant. Which annoyed me. Personally, I think Ross should’ve just stayed with Julie. He was happy with her.
